New Vegas has ruined fallout 3 for me

As for the Enclave, it's simply the history of Bethesda not coming up with really original "villains" - they've all been a derivative of something that came before.

They are pretty creative with the villains in their elder scrolls games. I think they just tried too hard to make fallout 3 a "fallout" game. I think that after seeing new vegas they will do better with fallout 4.

Creative in TES? Destroy evil, good win, happy end?
I know it leads to bad events like those after Morrowind or Oblivion, but still, they aren't creative, good vs evil theme shouldn'd be used so successfully.

It's sounds, in fact like FO3 is like FO1 in that it is more 'tight' in it's story and atmosphere

Atmosphere, kind of but it's all visual. Story? Not a chance. The story starts breaking after ten minutes if you are paying attention.

Mythic dawn?

I guess their main villains are all pretty much the embodiment of satan, but the human(oid) factions and characters are done very well if you ask me.

So Mythic dawn->Enclave(Fo3)->Thalmor->Enclave(Fo4?)? :lol:[/quote]
They supposedly want to look into more 'mystical' factions, and they are (supposedly) looking into Lovecraftian fiction, so we can expect the Enclave, but they are now in cahoots with Cthulhu! We're doomed!

You know...I could see the Statue of Liberty being (somewhat) intact.

But only if it serves as a reference to planet of the apes.

The Fallout series is full of references to other bits of post apocalyptic fiction after all.

No, communist occultist ghoul nazis.

Because fuck logic and history.

Seriously, if they start adding Wolfenstein/Hellboy/Bloodrayne crap (not saying those are bad; I like those series), then I will be very disappointed. They already pushed it a bit with that Dunwich stupidity in FO3.

I wasn't trying to be funny...I just don't like the idea of extra dimensional monstrosities in Fallout.

Or anything remotely mystical for that matter.

I apologize though for the hyperbole. That was admittedly unnecessary.

If they must go with something "mystical," I'd rather see them do something like the omega man; you know, have a deranged cult of ghouls running around, claiming themselves to be the next step in human evolution or something.
I think that matches the setting a bit more than Occultist Enclave.
Besides, having a paranormal branch of the Enclave would push the allegory a bit.

The occult angle can work, but it's a fine line between blatantly obvious and silly, and down toned and fitting Fallout's theme.

It ruined Skyrim for me as well. My mind just became so much more critical of the storyline I just couldn't play it. I still haven't played the main quest, it got so boring and repetitive, the civil war being a really crappy ripoff of New Vegas's storyline, the difference being, rather than having both factions having their unique good and bad points they're instead exactly the same.

The point when I realised New Vegas was just so much better than 3 was when I realised, I've only played through 3 once, and feel no urge to play it again. I've replayed NV four times, and still want to play it more.

Went from Oblivion, to FO3, to NV. With every new game, the others became crappier in comparison. After NV I played 1 and 2. After playing those I could not stand to play Fallout 1 and 2:electric boogaloo. Seeing that Bethesda had added almost nothing new to the series was a major letdown, and the few new things they did add were horribly stupid.(Giant robots ?) NV is my personal favourite out of the lot.

we saw this evolution in F3 to be honest. Paladins in shining armor here to save the wasteland ...

By hiding in the Pentagon and using a giant robot to destroy the Enclave.

That giant robot was one of the number one things that just pissed me off about the end of that game. Honestly? After going through this whole story I can pretty much set my character to auto follow this thing, get up and walk away? Then at the end of it all there is is a pitifully easy "fight" with one guy and two "soldiers." That's why I play NV and that's why NV ruined FO:3 for me. At least at the end of Vegas you can see the effects of your actions. Depending how you play, the final war you can rally at minimum three extra factions to assist your main faction. That's more how FO:3 should have ended. Instead of a big optimus prime ripoff, how about we get a chance to reunite the outcasts with Lyons pride? What about recruiting Talon Company? Or forming militias from the people of the wasteland who've apparently been being terrorized by the enclave and all of them come to assist the BoS in the end? Maybe even a quest where you can meet with some sort of super mutant leaders and forge a truce between them and the Bos and they can come help. So many possibilities gone to waste...

Well, for most of those things you'd need an actual plot that leads to it. I mean, the supermutants in FO 3 are mainly nonsense. The only thing that gets a somewhat real explanation is why they're different from west coast mutants. And that's it.

I'd like it if both Fallout 2 and 3 would have offered an option to side Enclave. I wouldn't use it, since I'm almost always a goodie two shoes and don't agree with Enclave's ideas, but it would be great for roleplaying to have that choice. Of course, they'd probably just betray you, because you are a wastelander and such, and only if they actually agree to recruit you. Anyway, that, and what you said, would have probably make a far better game out of FO 3.

Silly Alesia. That would require Bethesda hiring writers. They're much too small and without money to do that.

Sorry, I forgot they only hire "writers" that focus on "the cool factor."

Lots of guns and ammo... CHECK!
Over exaggerated gore... CHECK!
Big k ewl lookin scary enemies... CHECK!
Lots o' stuff to grab... CHECK!
Enclave vs. BoS... CHECK!

All right boys and girls we got us a game, let's go have lunch!

If that answers are for my post, the only thing I meant is that changing the ending won't suffice, and if the rest of the game were to be for some weird reason preserved, changing the ending would make it even more nonsense than it is right now. What FO 3 needs to have a good plot is an almost complete rewrite.

I agree completely. One thing that would probably have solved a number of the story problems would have been to have no main characters. Write consequences for killing your dad for example. I blew up a town, enslaved people and am a cannibal. Why can't I kill my own father?

Number of other things. Get rid of super mutants and BoS (and Enclave though I wouldn't see it as too far fetched for them to have a base in DC) Invent entirely new groups, more emphasis on groups like the Talon Company, maybe show more of that Institute influence, and no water chip or GECK. This isn't FO1 or 2.

These are just some general suggestions. Make of them what you will :whatever:
