New Vegas outgunning 3 in preorders; Fallout 3 sales

I wonder if such good sales will persist after consumers get wind of all the bugs and badly-implemented mechanics that will no doubt plague the game.

I hate in-game pre-order bonuses. I want to have the full game on launch day, not feel like I miss out because I didn't pre-order. I feel the same about DLC that is already included in the disk or released shortly after the game is released. I would prefer that bonuses be physical too, not because I like that, but because I hate not having access to all in-game content.

Yeah.. Obsidian really needs to get their act together. Not that Fallout 2 or 3 were devoid of any bugs, but Alpha Protocol had some really terrible ones that ruined the game for me for a large part.

Saving a game in AP equaled cheating because enemies disappeared if you loaded the game. Badly implemented checkpoint system. So annoying.

It didn't happen with Fallout 3, why would it happen here (where the mechanics are also very obviously improved)?

They didn't seem to mind with the past 3 Bethesda games

yea, as has been said, bethesda has zero record in clean releases.

fo3 had game-terminating crash on exit

it still has numerous bugs, some of which prevent completion of secondary quests.

and only a few of them can be solved without complicated console use which does not work on consoles.

Just thought I'd toss this together as it's both fairly minor.

MCV UK reports Fallout: New Vegas has already overtaken its predecessor in preorders. Thanks WorstUserNameEver.
which is the reason why there was no chance for real FO1/2 squeal, no one gives a shit a bout the years long FO1/2 community, because the money lies with the "oblivion" community compared to which we are in significant and in this type of games big community is crucial as its will provide tons of extra content long after.

Uhm... because it's Obsidian?

:D

it should be noted that Fallout 3 didn't have pre-order bonuses.

AFAIK that is bullshit. As the above poster pointed out there were keyrings going around if you pre-ordered. I think there was another thing as well, but I forgot.
Don't know if this was the only other thing, but I have a nuka cola bottle opener from my preorder.

But this is not a Bethesda's game, but Obsidian's (yeah, I know that's the general perception Beth wants, but still...)

Then again, why bother buying the Fallout franchise instead of making Oblivion 2?[/rhetorical question]

Didn't all those people like... Thought that certainly someone will create a mod for the stuff you get for pre-ordering?

No wonder if they pay for their porn.

I doubt 100% of the pre-orders are only for the bonuses. Don't forget about the CE.

if your going to get the game why not get the prorder at the same time.

Pre-ordering is essentially making a gamble, or placing your faith in the developers.

If you wait a few days after release, you can read reviews of the game on Metacritic, from other gamers, or otherwise, and see if it is actually worth buying; or if the game is just an omega flop that gives you brain damage (See Oblivion n.)

Sometimes a game may be nigh unplayable after release due to performance problems or bugs, but then the developers quickly release a patch, letting you circumvent all of the frustration of the first-day buyers. (iPhone 4G, unrelated example).

That is pretty cool, goes to show that most of the people who got Fallout 3 are getting New Vegas. Obsidian is lucky that Bethesda reeled in such a large fanbase with that title. And hype doesn't mean a game is no good. Fable had lots of hype, a LOT of hype, but it was still a great game, I think an amazing one. Of course, it probably isn't the type of game you fellas would enjoy. To each his own.
Actually, when I see a hobo eating off a trash can, I don't go "to each his own". What you said is just as ridiculous as a hobo eating off a trash can: it's sad.

Oblivion / Fallout 3 fans are I think already used with quite a lot of things. At least here Obsidian is true to the tradition.

Fable burned me because I let ol Peter sell me on what was "Project Ego", almost none of which was in Fable.
I think Molyneux (or whats his name ...) is one of the most overrated persons around. But thats my oppinion.

I don't really get it. Bethesda getting the Fallout franchise was a great move. Whole new universe for them to work with, revived a near dead series, and really provided a lot more opportunities for Bethesda to make a fun game. Reception to Fallout 3 was near universal in acclaim, amongst people new to Fallout, and people like me who enjoyed the first two games. In really every demographic (except perhaps the NMA community), the majority of the folks thought Fallout 3 was great. These people will probably go on to buy New Vegas. Regardless of the opinions that Fallout 3 is a travesty that betrays the previous games, it still won critical acclaim and several game of the year awards. Fallout New Vegas, if it sticks tight to the tried and true mechanics of Fallout 3, will likely do just as well. Most people can get past minor deficiencies in the game and see it for what it is: a game worthy of acclaim and respect.
