Jon Gruden is not a good football commentator. He's annoying and acts way too star struck with every player.

At one point, I think during Pack - Vikes earlier this season, he said something like "Yeah, just being in the same organisation as this guy you knew something special was happening" about Brett Favre.

The guy was with the Packers for 3 years, and he wasn't even there for the first NFC championship.

Also, Bucs throwback jerseys for next week are probably going to rival some of the other jerseys this year for ugliness, maybe even the hideous Seahawks jerseys:

History and honoring some great players (Lee Roy Selmon) is nice and all, but man that is an eyesore.

I'm so stoked for Pats@Indy and Pats@Saints, hope they are still undefeated by then. Be nice to see some heavyweight playoff type games for a change. Belichik is usually good at punching teams like that in the nose, Pats'll lose though, tough road games, would be a different story if they played in the weather @ Foxboro.

I've missed the Tampa creamsicles soooo much. They haven't been around since the last time Tampa was really bad.

You haven't seen ugly until you've seen the Packers throwback uniforms. Hopefully they'll wear them against the Bucs. They're even worse than Denver's, and that's saying something, since the Denver throwbacks look like bad middle-school uniforms.

Sounds like Clifton and Tauscher will be the starting OTs this week. If those guys can stay healthy the o-line might just be competent.

Yeah the original Packers Pumpkinheads, Bears (circa Red Grange era) and Eagles throwbacks were clearly en vogue prior to the advent of color TV. Who knew they wore those colors back then, who could possibly remember and want to relive that? Pre-war shit should really be exempt, it's not photogenic at all.
And I'm all for the richness of tradition, but yeah the Packers one is just old, faded and shabby looking almost. Captures that Depression era vibe I guess.

Eagles should go back to that Randall Cunningham era silver and kelly green.

I really like the Pats, Bills, Chargers baby blues, Dallas' is kind of classic.
I'd like to see a Redskins throwback with the FSU style spear on the helmet.

Meh. It's all marketing, they all have alternate and throwback unis as a ploy to boost jersey sales.

Dome teams are faggotty for sure, but it begs the question: these teams have a clear home-field advantage throughout the regular season and usually a disadvantage in the playoffs. Is that unfair? It just seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot. Meanwhile, the "natural weather" stadiums up north, and the Mile High Stadium, have no disadvantage during the regular season and often an advantage in the playoffs. Yet few people discuss this as unfair.

You mean what's not equitable about one team feeling free to specialize on air (dome) or ground (harsh conditions) games to a level the opposing team can not because it does not play half or key games in said conditions? Doy. Be serious here.

PS: I'm not saying it's unfair either way. I'm saying it doesn't make sense to hold that debate about dome teams and not about cold/hot-weather teams. If stadium conditions are wildly different across the league, that will give advantages.

*Again* I agree, it's not unfair. What I don't get - AGAIN - is that this "unfair" debate is held for dome teams but not for extreme-weather teams.

It is? By who?
I don't see how an argument can be made that a dome team is at less of an advantage at home than an inclement weather team. Not when they can crank up the heat and pipe in canned crowd noise like the Colts do. Green Bay can't control the weather, just prepare for it. It's not like these teams aren't all populated by a southern majority predominantly from FLA, TEX and SOCAL. Favre, Brady, Elway, best snow QBs ever? From SO CAL and Lousiana.

Football is all about overcoming the shitty hand you are dealt.

Overcoming the weather.
Overcoming shitty referees.
Overcoming injuries to key players.
Overcoming turnovers. etc. etc.

Good teams overcome a bad call or an injury. Faggoty teams blame their losses on those things after the fact.

Shit happens. Deal with it.

No one should be complaining about Gruden after listening to Tony Kornheiser for the past two years. I don't know whether you ever heard Kornheiser on MNF, but it was so bad it made the game unwatchable.

Barring injury he'll maintain his current pace and be in the running for MVP at the end of the year. He's not getting sacked much and he has a great running game to back him up. You might as well stop watching NFL coverage for the rest of the season because it's going to be Favre overload for the forseeable future.

Not that I support that in any way.
 
Inevitably, it's football, everyone is injured all the time to a certain degree - the question is would it keep him out. Like him or not, he is by a long stretch, the NFL's all-time Ironman QB. Probably his most impressive and untouchable QB record.

Until he does go down, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt.

Add to that he's playing like someone's grandma who just had hip surgery - watch those feeble tackle attempts vs. the Steelers, he's not throwing his body out there like the old days, very cautious. He knows he's old and brittle, and he knows he's more important to his team on his feet than saving a lost cause. He's crafty (seeing why he skipped the rigours of training camp), and barring a blown knee or shoulder, I'd expect to him to start every game.

Their schedule is pretty soft going forward too. Barring a catastrophe they're getting a 1st round bye. Maybe 1st seed.

And I'd favor them over the Saints at this point in a playoff game.
For the same reason, Saints don't get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to playoff success.
