NFL 2013

Your underestimating Bennett who had 9 sacks last season, and plays the run even better.

I'm not underestimating Bennett, I'm saying he's not schemed to start for the Hawks, and certainly not at DE. Red Bryant is our strongside DE, and the other end is a Leo end. I would probably guess the Hawks lineup starting W1 as Bryant-Mebane-Williams-Avril. Williams might be replaced by McDaniel if he's not ready, Avril would go out for Irvin and Clemons when they're back.

You talk a lot about a team that you really don't know anything about.

Syphon said:
Also, you might want to lower Avril's pedestal considering the supporting cast he had on the Lions Dline compared to SEA's.

Yeah, because we haven't shown an ability to maximize the usage of rushers like him. Raheem friggin Brock got 9 sacks playing parttime on this D, I'm p sure Avril will do fine.

Syphon said:
That scenario isn't even as close to TB's situation. Revis, Goldson, Barron, Wright + #1 Run D might be more impressive than Phillys paper champs.

Yes, it might. But you might want to wait to see them actually do it until declaring their ability to shut down any receiving group in the NFL. The Bucs should be massively improved but should be and are in the NFL are far apart.

SEA's secondary shines so much only because Niner's passing game is so weak. Niners status quo elevates SEA good secondary into people overhyping them as elite. Don't get me wrong, their back four is great but who are they usually covering? Crabtree? Boldin? Davis?

...you do realize we only play the Niners twice a year (or thrice), right? We did play the Cowboys, Packers, Patriots, Lions and Falcons last year as well. Not that we did equally great against all of em, but your logic makes no sense, this defense has been plenty tested. Also Boldin only just got back to this division this offseason

Calvin Johnson had all of 3 catches for 46 yards against us. Aaron Rodgers threw for 0 TDs and the Packers scored only 12 points on this D. But sure, it's a paper tiger.

Not much mention of he broncos on here...I'm no fan of theirs, but I would pick either them or the pats as superbowl favorites for the afc, and I'll go with packers or falcons for NFC (eagles fan by the way, so no bias)

Broncos, 49ers and Seahawks are the all-around Superbowl favorites. Not that being the off-season SB favorite gets you anywhere.

Regardless, they aint touching our offense. Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph and Penn won't let SEA "good" Pass rush affect our game.

And whats with the Calvin Johnson stat? SEA's dline beats DET oline like a redheaded step child, and the secondary closes any chance before Stafford is on his back. DET likes to run short-routes if you apply pressure with no secondary prowess, and once you close that down with jams, their 'effed".

Just to remind you, the 'Hawks play in niners, CARDINALS and St.Louie division. Cardinals is a 2win +. St.Louis is improving but isn't a contender yet, though they play hard and Niners are the only run for your money. So I don't buy their "Hype" since they come out of a weak-as-fuck division. Straight up.

FWIW, I think the NFC West is a lot tougher than it used to be. Seattle and San Fran are getting most of the hype, but St. Louis was decent last year for the first time in a long time, and I see them improving again this year. Concerning Arizona, people forget that they started out 4-0 (including beating the Pats in Boston) before massive injury problems derailed their season. Palmer's not the elite QB he once was, but he's better than anything they've had since Warner retired. Fitzgerald, Floyd, and Roberts is a very respectable WR crew. Potentially anyway.

The Packers should be good again this year. They had more significant injuries than any other team (even Arizona), and they still won a playoff game. With better luck in that department they could be contenders. We'll have to wait at see, though, because they seem to be going with young players at a few positions, like inside LB. I don't think the o-line has improved much if at all, but they have better running backs on the roster than they've had in a long time, I think.

^How do you feel about the Packer's letting Bishop walk to the Vikings? I don't know Bishop real well.

That's a puzzler. Bishop's a guy I've liked for a long time. I first saw him play in pre-season his rookie year. He would go in with the second stringers and absolutely take over the game, yet he never got a chance to start until injuries got him in the lineup a couple years later. He definitely paid his dues and worked his way up, and he was a good player when they won the Super Bowl and the next year during the 15-win season.

Last year he blew out his knee early in the first game against San Fran, so he was on IR essentially the whole season.

Most of the Packer fans I know were looking forward to him being on the field again, so it was surprising when Ted was trying to trade him, and then ultimately released him. Especially since they also cut the guy who was his backup last year (who played pretty well, but then also got hurt after about two games).

It's unusual for the Packers to bail on players they've drafted, so all I can say is that there must have been something going on behind the scenes that the public doesn't know about. Either they didn't think he could still play after the injury, and didn't think he was worth the money, or there was some conflict. They've been grooming some young linebackers for the past couple of years, so maybe they like what they see there.

It was just money. They tried to get him to take a paycut to keep him on. He wouldn't do it. So they got rid of him. Can't afford to keep a two-down linebacker recovering from an injury for the kind of money he was making.

True. Well I guess Ted will find out soon enough if he was right to let him go. They've been throwing out retreads all offseason and the Vikings just seem to be there waiting for the junkpile to grow. Personally though, I'm pretty sure Jennings isn't going to answer all their needs in MIN.

Yeah, Minnesota loves sifting through the Green Bay castoffs. :D

Ted's earned the benefit of the doubt, though. He's made moves in the past that riled up his critics and left fans scratching their heads (you may recall he traded Brett Favre to the Jets a few years ago), but most of the time he's ultimately been proven correct. Not always, but most of the time.

Yeah, that's probably true. I haven't been paying close attention to the story, to be honest. The rub on Bishop was always that he didn't have the lateral quickness to excel in pass coverage. I suspect they think he's gotten even slower since the injury last year. That would explain why they wanted him to take a pay cut.

The three main contenders in my mind (Broncos, 49ers, Seahawks) have all had shitty injury luck this offseason. I figured maybe that'd see the Packers ascend but then nope.

It's not good, but on the other hand I think the reaction to Bulaga's injury is a little overblown. It's not like he's Joe Thomas. If the news is that the Green Bay o-line is going to be below average, then it's not news. They haven't had a decent line since Clifton retired. Before that, really.

David Bakhtiari's been getting rave reviews from camp so far, so I'm interested to see where he ends up. Barclay also played pretty well down the stretch last season.

If things go like the normally do for the Packers, though, you'll see three more starting linemen injured before long.

My league draft is the 25th. I drew the 5th spot out of 12, and I'm pretty happy with that. There should be one or two top-tier players on the board at that point. Muscle Hampster or at worst Calvin Johnson maybe.

Does NMA do fantasy? If so, I'm interested in being in the league.
It has happened before, but not last year.

The most fascinating thing about the Packers first preseason game against Arizona was the return of Johnny Jolly after three years of prison and suspension. He played all four quarters and actually looked quite good. I'm betting he makes the team and plays quite a bit this year.

I'm just too busy to do fantasy and I usually kickstartert/run the NMA league. Maybe we can talk Sander into taking over?

Also, is it just me or has it been a stupidy injury-rich offseason for pretty much all teams.

Yeah, my team (eagles) lost Jeremy Maclin to an acl tear... arguably the best receiver on the team depending on who you think is the most complete receiver between him and Desean Jackson.

I don't know whether there are more injuries this year so far, but there have definitely been more to big name players.

Eddie Lacy looked great for the Packers yesterday. He's huge and surprisingly fast and nimble. Best running back they've had since Ryan Grant was in his prime, at least.

I kind of skimmed this thread earlier and hadn't really been paying attention to preseason this year, so just assumed this was the usual thing you hear every year, but i was just listening to nfl network on sirius and apparently fran tarkenton claims injuries are up 37% this year.
