NFL - The Thread, '08.

Man, who did Brady's surgery, Dr. Mengele?

Anyway, lots of good games this weekend
Giants vs. Steelers
ATL vs. Philly
Titans vs. Indy
Bolts vs. Saints
Cards vs. Panthers
Cowboys vs. Tampa

Looks to be a good weekend.
Parity is a good thing. Remember all the seasons of yore where half the games would be irrelevant at this point.

Can't wait to see the Titans smash the Colts and the Rams embarrass the Pats back into reality. It'll make the Colts-Pats game all the more poignant.

Like they did in '01?
You're going to see what happens when an inferior, indoor dome team goes on the road and plays in a cold weather stadium.

That the fragile Maroney has taken his annual break to cupcake land is no suprise. Maroney has to be considered a dissappointment, he's way too delicate, never has played a full season, and I've never seen anyone hesitate before hitting the hole like he does. And he's never even carried the workload himself, always splitting time. Most of his stats are garbage yards because defenses played so far off Moss and Welker.
Rodney Harrison has become more of a liability recently too, with his personal fouls, inability to cover anyone faster than a TE, and his tough guy routine where he piles on to every tackle - usually spearing his own guys in the back. If he was as good as his ego we might miss him but for replacing another really aged defensive player with a 1st rounder.

Who the Pats really miss is Asante Samuel, but probably not worth the money he's getting paid, he's good but not a bona fide shutdown corner.

Geee I dunno not really the same teams huh?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not drinking the Cool-Aid on the Rams yet, but they are resurgent. I think it would be wise not to consider the Pats resurgent yet. They had one good game against the worst defense of the NFL and against a team that has been struggling to score for 4 games now (the Broncos netted only one TD in 2 of the 3 matches prior to the Pats game).

Is it time to celebrate in the street yet? No. The offense is still fake unless they get Morris back; you know Denver was the lowest-ranked against the pass coming into this game, and Cassel is so bad he actually vaulted them up the ranks? Withour Morris, the running game isn't good enough to carry this offense.

And the D? The D's been a joke since last year, and Harrison being in or out doesn't change that. Without a dominant offensive performance to carry them the Pats D ain't shit.

The Pats better pray Jackson is either out or at least hobbled, or they're going to get smashed back into reality. Regardless, the Pats pass D has been pretty lamed up all year, so it's a good game for Bulger to get his groove back.

Essentially, the Rams-Pats game is a matchup between two pretty bad teams, but (assuming health) I'll probably take the Rams over the Pats.

You're right, the Rams are much worse, 7 point underdogs, and on the road outside the security of their nice warm dome.

The Pats certainly aren't as good as they looked against Denver, nor are they as bad as they looked against SD.
But reality to a Belichek coached team doesn't extend beyond the W column, because it's the only metric of success.

Anyway, their season ended 5 minutes in, they are just playing with house money now.

Granted, but there's sub-par, talent that can be coached above it's level worse.
And then there's frazzled franchise in disarray worse.

Which prompts me to mention that I snatched BenJarvus Green-Ellis off waivers in my fantasy league. He has two first names and two last names.

And there's already a Jarvis Green on the team, I thought the announcer was stuttering on Monday night. I think that LaMont Jordan is starting with Faulk in his usual role - wouldn't expect much from BJ-GE.

LaMont is listed as doubtful with his calf, I doubt he's trucking the load. Morris is likely out too.

That leaves Faulk and BenJarvus to carry the load. Owtch. No offense left in NE.

Steven Jackson is dinged up too, and it rained heavily here last night, the field is probably like a swamp, just what fast, dome teams play best in! At least the Pats have the best substitute for lack of a running game, Wes dink-and-dunk Welker and a QB who's not allowed to throw more than 7 yards downfield.
On top of that you've got Belichek and his insecure/paranoid/vindictive streak against a team people (baselessly) accused him of needing to tape to beat. I like the Pats to cover the spread even with their H.S. QB.

You got to fucking be kidding me that our local AFC game here is Jets/Chiefs instead of Saints/Chargers.
More reason to bemoan proximity to New Jersey.

DAMN that bucks cowboys game pwnd... Just wish the bucks could have won. Who is watching NO in Europe?

Man, the Pats snuck in a win there. Would've been a pretty one-sided game if Steve Jackson was in. Boy that team looks bad.

And INTs are part of the package with Favre, Twinks, but he is starting to look, well, old.

Do you not see the irony in saying that Pats are winning because of injury? They're winning despite it. Remember that MVP guy, umm what was his name...

Not really. I said it would have been a pretty one-sided game if Steven Jackson was in. A simple, one-point statement that is - as far as I can see - true. It would have been more one-sided for the Pats if they had a decent runner in, or if Brady was in.

None of this was the case, and the Pats managed to squeek out a win. Meanwhile, they were terrible on D and their pass offense is still a joke. This is not a contender. For anything. The St. Louis D was chasing their excuse for a QB all day long while a short-stacked O moved almost at will at times - the NE D allowing Bulger to set a new personal best for longest completion, and to a rookie receiver no less.

Look, I'm not counting them out yet since their division is still so pathetic (did you see the Bills going at it with the Dolphins? The Jets nearly losing to one of the worst teams in the NFL?), but this is a one-and-out team at best and quite frankly there's no shame in that.

Seahawks come up with a big win

Leonard Weaver, 2 TD's!... It's all about the neon green shoes! The pic above does not reflect them, do check out highlights where they are available for a good laugh.

That Mike Singletary post-game press conference was awesome.

I'm going to be very disappointed if he's not successful after that. And I couldn't care less about the Niners.
