NFL - The Thread, '08.

Fuck the fans, fuck ownership.

If you were in that huddle who'd you want to be your QB class act or not?

Favre's been acting like a tool, and the Packers are clearly sticking with their decision (which they should IMO), but they seem too protective of the Packer image because they don't want to be the guys that let Favre go on their watch. Seriously, it's almost sacrilegious to think of. Favre is the NFL, multiple MVP, 1st ballot HOFer, SB winner. But he made this mess not them.

It's like if you tell your landlord you're moving out. He has to make arrangements to fill your room so he can continue making money. You can't come back after they've committed to someone else and expect them to take you back.

I'd love to see Farve in Vikes Purple, he'd be like that anti-Favre.

*game face showing*

Just to update the rumor mill, I'm hearing the deal is Favre for Brian Griese and a conditional draft pick that starts as a 3rd-rounder and moves up depending on how far the Bucs go into the playoffs.

Holy Shnikies

Favre out: Packers trade legend to Jets

Isn't the point of coming out of retirement to play for a playoff team?
Jets.
Just to imagine Favre in a Jets uniform is bizarre.

Guys gonna shit all over his own legacy. In the Pats division no less. Belichek will undress him.

I don't see how this benefits the Jets long term either. They have lots of needs, but Favre + NY media + Mangina - this is really odd. Granted they have no QB, but how much of a boost does Favre give you? How much gas does he have left in the tank?

Also props to Jay Glazer, he is on top of every scoop in the NFL. Every one.

hehe. yeah...that's what i thought too. i am actually GLAD though, that he's out of the goddamn NFC (though it WOULD have been really interesting to watch the Pack vs. Favre. totally surreal). be gone with ye, olde wizard! this whole time i was thinking...what would Jeff Garcia do if Favre went to tampa? that would just be weird.

Man, you were way off, UniversalWolf.

Whatevz, Jets are a mediocre team that now becomes slightly less mediocre thanks to Favre. Their chances of going to the playoffs are still near nill.

And how long until Mr. Favre decides to "retire" again.

Reminds me of Michael Jordan and his repeated comebacks.

wtf? have people gone fucking mad?

Michael Silver is an annoying fuck, but sometimes he writes good pieces, like this piece that discussed how this looks like an act of desperation that will likely not help the Jets.

Even moreso, this is interesting.

“No way,” one source familiar with the GM’s and coach’s thinking said on Tuesday. “Not with the way he keeps opening his mouth and trashing everybody. We keep biting our tongues and trying to take the high road, and every time he goes into a meeting and they agree to keep it confidential, he goes running to the media and rips them in the press. And now, to give him exactly what he wants and let him go for nothing? Forget about it.”
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre says good bye to friends Wednesday,

How blatantly did Favre disregard the wishes of his superiors? In his hours-long meeting with McCarthy on Monday night, one of the coach’s direct complaints to the quarterback was that he was tired of having their supposedly confidential conversations leaked in the press. McCarthy told Favre, point-blank, that he didn’t want to turn on his TV or computer after the meeting ended and see quotes from Favre, anonymous or otherwise, discussing the interaction.

Jesus H Christ, what a fuck egotistical asshole that Favre is.

Yeah and he's going to be coached by Mangini, the guy who uses the Belichek approach to communicating to the media (meaning not at all) in NYC of all places!

It just seems like a bad fit for Bret or the Jets, you have:

Favre, who already has a reputation as a wild gunslinger who goes off the script.
Put him on a team coached by a guy who is actually younger than Favre, and is a total tight-assed control freak.
Throw in the NY media, believe me, I live in the tri-state area, it's going to be a three-ring-circus.

Man, you were way off, UniversalWolf.

Guilty! The prediction was worth the risk, though. If I'd been right, I would've looked sage.

At least I got the conditional draft pick part. I like the added touch of the Jets having to give Green Bay three first-round draft picks if they trade Favre to any team in the NFC North. That made me chuckle.

I actually think going to the Jets is a good move for Favre - not ideal, but not bad. They had low expecations for this year. If he does nothing more than get them a winning record, he'll come out looking good. His presence alone is going to sell more tickets and merchandise. I don't see him having any trouble dealing with the press in New York, either. They're going to love Favre unless he completely bombs, which I doubt will happen.

When I hear people critizice Ted Thompson, I have to shake my head. He's not perfect, but whenever he does something people think is crazy, it ends up being a great move. For example, when he traded Javon Walker people said he was crazy. In return he got a draft pick he used to acquire Greg Jennings.

I think this may be one of those moves. Some people are saying he's lost his mind to let Favre go, but I'm going to wait and see how it turns out.

So I'm watching ESPN last night and they're talking about the QB controversy between Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton.
Who the fuck is the GM in Chi-town and where do I get some of the shit he's smoking? You're telling me that in the last three years you haven't had a chance through either drafts or trading to replace those two numnuts? I wouldn't trust Rex Grossman to park my car.

No, Cimmerian Nights, get this, they're hoping to get back into the playoffs by using Kyle Orton, because Orton is a quarterback that doesn't make too many mistakes.

How these guys ever made it to the superbowl is a mystery to me.

PS: those are actually the only two QBs on their roster.
