NFL - The Thread, '08.

man.

almost thought my Pack were gonna throw that fucking game away. they've got a TON of correcting to do if they wanna face the cowboys evenly next week.

still, glad for a win...and at the very least...Rodgers still looks very, very solid.

You might want to check your running game. It seems you don't have one.

Grrrlulz

Nah for serious, it got really weird in the 3rd quarter, but nothing I'd say makes the team look that bad.

That said, can someone check for me if the Miami defense is actually on the field?

Because this stat-line:
K. Warner 5-5 167 yds 2 TDs 158.3 QBRat
Says they're not present.

i know?! right? where the fuck was Grant? is Grant my Radiohead? he releases Ok Computer last year and then can't back it up????????

Looks like. Rodgers was rushing better than Grant, not to mention Brandon Jackson.

Dunno, man. It's kind of odd that he'd run well versus a really tough D (look at how the Vikes manhandled Addai) and shit against a soft one. Maybe he's not really Ryan Grant, but he's Ryan Grant from a Bizarro World. Bizarro bizarro!

(Warner is 9-9 for 221 yards now. Seriously what?)

in all seriousness, i think that whole contract/preseason/hamstring thing is psyching him out. fucking kid better just get over it and right quick.

I hate to be that person pointing this out, but holly hell... What do the referee's have against Seattle? Better yet, now that Seattle has -6 WR's... What does a higher power have against them?

Miami got hit with a '12 men on the field' penalty twice :)

The fins are pretty bad, but Warner and the Cards are looking legit this year.

Dunno. they haven't played a legit team yet, just san fran and the fins

Behrens described the entire first half of the Tards-Fins game well:
• Kurt Warner and Anquan Boldin are playing catch in Arizona, while a few guys in Dolphin helmets stand and watch.

as much as I love the Hawks, they just don't look that good. You can't keep blaming the refs for that, it'll get old and unconvincing right quick.

Refs totally screwed San Diego. Ed Hokuli needs to spend less time working out his 'guns' and more time studying the rules.

True but a win is a win in the NFL.

absolutely. he even admitted it to the crowd. "it should have been a fumble, etc"

Yep. And the longest regular season winning streak ever is being kept alive by who?
Matt Freakin Cassel.
Miami next week and then a bye week followed by the Niners? Rams, Raiders, Cards, Fins again.

Not too shabby.

Where's your messiah now Jets fans?
Why the fuck did you sign Farve and then run it 3 times in a row 1st and goal from the 3? Dumbass Mangini - after the Jets fire your fat-ass good luck ever finding employment in the NFL again after you NARCed out your fucking mentor. I heard Buckely H.S. needs a JV coach.
/post Jets victory gloating

I agree with you completely yet, there are still too many bad calls. You know its bad when the sports casters are joking about what "bad call" will be next... Granted one of them was a Vulcan... Seriously, NO emotion on that mans face... It was a botox nightmare.

Mangini was trying to out-Belichick Belichick.

What I find so amusing about this whole thing is that if Favre had played his cards right, not been an ass and simply bided his time, he would now be playing for the Patriots, heading to the Superbowl.

The Jets? The Jets ain't shit. It's between the Bills and the Pats in that division, and I'm liking the Pats on top.

C'est la vie. I'm too hardened by football (actual football), which has no video replays and only 3 refs. Now that sport has a lot of bad calls. NFL is relatively mild.

I'm callin 9ers upset Pats. :D

Yeah if this was 1984.
Then again, who knows what Cassel is capable of, he's going to be riding with training wheels for a while.

Speak no more of this.

meh. calls schmalls. very rarely does a good team stay down because of a few bad calls. at least 7 times out of 10 the NFL refs make excellent calls. and at least one of those times a call gets reversed and the refs admit their mistake.

also, i'll go so far as to say for just about every bad call on your team another one happens to the opposing team. it's just football and it's always been this way.

and when there is a truly bad call, the refs pay for it.

That was really frustrating to watch. When you have Favre and you're in the red zone you have to run now and then to keep the defense honest, but really he should be passing eight times out of ten. It's kinda what he does. I guarantee there's no one on that team with a better chance to score.

Has anyone else noticed that the new facemask rule has completely backfired? I've seen more egregious, dangerous facemask violations so far this year than I saw all last year, and we're only two weeks into the season. There's no reason for a player to let go of the facemask anymore once he grabs it, since he's going to get a 15-yard penalty in either case. Why not give it a good tug?

There's a clear difference between an accidental hand on the mask and a deliberate yank on it, yet the two are now penalized equally. Stupid.

Especially bad since they spent all that money on the O-line, everyone was hyping up their offseason acquisitions. "Jetribution" on the front page of the Post and all that. And they still couldn't budge the Pats front 3.
Is Mangina not familiar with Brett Favre's body of work or something? He's way too much of a conservative control-freak to utilize Favre properly. Bad match these two I say.

He's Brett flippin' Favre, you can stop gamplanning that dink and dunk shit, Pennington's gone numb-nuts. Mangenius my ass.

Hey, Adalius Thomas called, he found Leon Washington's helmet stuck between his teeth.

I know it's only week 2, but if I'm the GM of the Packers I'm feeling pretty good so far.
