Today I met my "American-father-in-law" for the first time and the first thing he did was to give me a fleece jacket with the New York Giants logo on it.

No more wondering about what team he roots for :)

The defending champions! That's good news for you, my friend.

It's a pretty solid franchise all around. They've been my (distant) second team ever since I used to get the local New York FOX station on satellite about ten years ago. All in all, a good team to be a fan of.

They're playing Cincinnatti this weekend, and should destroy them with ease.

Key Players:
Quarterback - Eli Manning
Wide Receiver - Plaxico Burress
Running Back - Brandon Jacobs
Defensive End - Justin Tuck

hehe. yeah, it's good news in a couple ways...yet bad in a couple as well.

Good News:

- you've got a solid and exciting team on your hands here.

- father in law will most likely watch entire game passionately instead of walking away from the set at half-time like many angry fans of horrible teams tend to do.

- one of the most energetic and exciting defenses to watch in the NFL.

- Eli Manning.

Bad News:

- as defending superbowl champs, your father in law will most likely get more angry at stupid plays, calls, losses, etc than if they were a lesser team.

- Eli Manning.

I was almost worried we gave you bad advise in going to the Rams, M, especially considering the form the 'Hawks have been in

But man that must have been fun to watch (I couldn't get it one any channel sadly, ended up just watching Jax-Colts instead). The only Ram that looked even remotely good was Josh Brown :P

Oh man did Josh get it. The entire stadium was booing when ever he was on the field, it was deafening. I was only able to hold up my "#3 is a $ell out" sign once, I hope he saw it. eh eh eh

Yeah insane game. I did not know Hasselbeck was better than a lineman but, now I do. I can't wait until that youtube clip is up! ...Now, time to ice my throat and listen to the ringing in my ears.

Detroit hasn't won since 1975, it feels like.

TG: yeah, tough loss actually. I can't say the difference in quality was even that apparent. The GB D held Romo in check pretty well, but just didn't have much of an answer to the running game. On the other side of the ball Grant simply did not create enough, and A-Rod was not bad but pretty unspectacular, which wasn't surprising because the Bwoys pressured well.

So yeah. Lost on the running game on both sides of the ball.

First real test for A-Rod brings neither a passing nor a failing mark.

Barber's a football player. The way he consistently pounded it all game, it seemed like he had way more yards than he actually did.

great. it actually looked like a game for a few minutes.

fuck.

fuck.

fuck.

Yeah, that was, not good.

Edit: Humm, If I want to show you guys the cool block Hasselbeck did I'll have to hook up my PC to my DVR box. It seems no one in the sports world has the clip in question. Hopefully I find it recorded there!

And one thing that brings a tear to my eye... Miami destroys N.E.

i agree and in fact, if Grant's lack-luster performance did not begin with a fucking fumble...the game could have turned out 23-20, GB.

i thought Rodgers did pretty damn well though. just didn't have much protection. at least not very lasting protection. that dallas d-line looked strong as hell. you know, it was at least an exciting game for awhile. nothing worse than watching my friends a few hours earlier just sinking deeper into a Cleveland depression.

Bringing this one back up:

ahhhh, shaddup with your stupid AFC. they're on the decline. the NFC is rising!!!

Hell, right now in this season it looks like the NFC is already better than the AFC

Here is a good editorial considering the former AFC top teams and their problems, arguing that the Bills, Titans and Broncos look strongest right now (though not very good either), and:
Overall, the AFC may not have any team equal to the top three in the NFC East, which is 8-0 against outside opposition and might contain the three best teams in the league right now: Dallas, the Giants and Philadelphia, whose only loss was by four points at the Cowboys. Washington, which lost on opening night in the Meadowlands, would be a contender in any other division.

Man.

Talk about topsy-turvy world.

PS: oh, and "told you so" re: Jason Campbell

[self-masturbation]and i guarantee you, it might not be this year, maybe not even next, but GB might be looking at an pwnage dynasty if Rodgers can stay healthy and perfect his already brilliant-looking playability.[/self-masturbation]

and calling the Giants, who almost lost to the Bengals better than the Pack is fucking retarded. superbowl hype or no. that's just dumb. we'll see about that one, buddy.

Giants have better fundamentals. Their D looks better so far, and their O-line is a lot better.

Teams start there. They only end with the skill position fags like A-Rod.

The Pack beat the Vikings but that was when the Vikings still had an RB starting at QB. They need to beat a legitimate team before they can be taken seriously again.

Don't get me wrong, I also think the Pack will end up looking better than the Giants in a few week. But right now, you can't factually argue that they do.

I would've liked to see GB beat the Cowboys, but I'm not disappointed. I didn't really expect them to win, and I thought the team was pretty solid for the most part. They're suffering from a plethora of big and small injuries. I don't think either Grant or Clifton are completely healthy at this point, and with Wells out at center and Bigby out at safety and Harris not playing most of the game, and the injuries on the defensive line, I got more or less the game I was expecting.

I was impressed with Woodson's ability to keep TO in check. It might have made a big difference if he (and Kampman) had played in that game last year.

The Packers look eerily similar to how they looked early in the season last year. Last year they improved with every game, so I'm hopeful they'll be able to do that again.

Good game by Dallas, though. They look better than they were last year, I would say. If they had one more really good receiver that offense would officially be unstoppable. Makes me wonder how hard they'll try to acquire Anquan Boldin.

EDIT: I just read that Harris could miss the rest of the season with a ruptured spleen. Ouch. At his age that could be a career-ender.

nice thoughts, both of you. i agree 100% with those two posts.

edit (during game-time): there was just a Jets fan in the stands holding single letter signs that spelled out J-E-S-T.

NFC East is the best conference ever.

And Dallas isn't teflon, there's no way Marion Barber can keep up a pace like this and not get hurt. It's inevitable the way he runs. If he can, he's superman.

And until they prove otherwise they haven't won a playoff game in over a decade. Romo is 0-fer.

The pressure is on for the Bwoys this off-season. But really, you can only make so many bone-headed plays as a QB in the off-season, I fully expect Romo to turn it around.

Oh yeah, Barber is a 99% guaranteed injury this year. I drafted him in two fantasy leagues fully knowing that. It's like Brian Westbrook, you can't ignore that kind of value.

But he'll get hurt. I think the Cowboys figured the same, and right now it looks like their back-up is one of the best, tho' I don't think Fast Felix is a full-workload back. I hope for them Choice will be a decent change-of-pace guy for Jones.

That said, you sound a bit too negative. Seriously, the Cowboys are pretty easily the best team in the NFL right now. The Pack might be the only team that even has the potential to be as good but they need their health back. Colts? No run D. Titans? No pass O. Bills? Bears? Ravens? Vikings? Too conservative on O. Giants? One-sided on D, unstable on O. Jags? Serious O-line problems. Broncos? Does this team even have a D?

The Eagles might be the other serious contender in this group, and you know there's no way their playmakers are going to make it through the year healthy.

indeed the Pack are contenders...and after watching this video of Packers highlights from the game...they actually have my hopes back up. there were a lot of great plays in that game. they just need some screws tightened, Bigby needs to come back, and somebody's gonna REALLY have to step up to the plate that Al Harris made now that his fucking spleen is ruptured and he's out for the season.
