But, yay for a Wasteland Review! :)

The problem in this case is that the result would be a foregone conclusion, aside from describing the game I'd just be listing the ways in which I think it's great. Still, if it'd make more people pick it up that never played it before, it'd be worth it. (Or we could do a tandem review, but that is maybe a bit freakish.)

Indeed, the point of view may differ from the one of
playing a game for the first time, when it has just been released,
to be honest, it would be hard go back in the past of my memories
to see, how I felt, when playing Wasteland for the first time(s). :?

But yes, there even some people still out there, that on the first
look think, they eye cancer, but when showing them the gameplay
of Wasteland, and explaining to them, indeed get addicted,
before that happened, I think, I wouldn't believe it,
when someone told me, guess, it's that kind of bitterness of age.

(A tandem review, erm, yes, I think, freakish would hit the thoughts of quite some people who just read about that idea ,-) )

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has a very good scenery, but many flaws in gameplay.
The RPG content isn't satisfying, the FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't, too.
Spawning enemies, low weapon damage and scattering guns lead to an enormous ammunition consume. Night combat is unfair, and armor is wearing out too fast, without any possibilities to repair equipment and weaponry. Some weapons like Dragunov sniper rifle and grenade launcher are nice, but nearly useless. The main quest is too short and I'm missing the powerful evil final opponent, spawning side quests are annoying, and I'd suggest to add some more maps.
Nevertheless I had fun when playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - the atmosphere is great and credible, the detailed graphics is very good, and the postnuclear feeling in the ruins of a decayed civilisation is "fallouty" sometimes. So the game has it's best moments when not in combat - a strange comment on an FPS.

tax, a lot of what you're complaining about is either patched or is intended (such as the inaccuracy thing).

Intended features aren't available features - I don't speak about things I don't have at this time.
And I've tested patch 1 - only a few things have slight corrections and these adjustments aren't satisfying yet. There are still a lot of bugs in text, map and quest system, there are still KI cheats, there are still fast spawning enemies, there is still quest chaos and there are still balancing problems (prices, gun relations, hitpoints, weapon damage and - new - armor durability). And - btw - I had several crashes in Stalker+Patch 1, sometimes with internal bug report, sometimes bluescreen.
Maybe these things will be fixed after a number of future patches, but they aren't ok currently.

i didn't mean intended as 'intended to be patched soon', but intended as 'intended by game design'.

I've played it now and, to be honest, I'm not as impressed as I hoped I'd be.

The guns feel utterly puny, headshots don't seem to have much of an effect unless performed with a sawn-off at point-blank range.

Also I'm increasingly finding that getting around takes way too long and is usually hampered by irritations along the way, such as avoiding the landscape's anomaly acne and being hounded by feeble critters.

Do the weapons get beefier later in the game, or just the amount of damage they inflict?

When I fire an assault rifle I expect some noise! I expect it to kick a bit! Not just a tdd-tdd-tdd as if I'm rattling a couple of paperclips around in a tobacco tin..

1. You'll get better guns later.

2. Get endurance artifacts, and never stop.

3. Beefier a bit, more damage, and more accurate.

4. Get a better subwoofer.

1. *with an indignant expression* I'd better!!

2. Cheers for the advice - any ones in particular?

3. Do headshots ever become instant kills?

4. Laptop. Not planning on lugging around a subwoofer!

I've been playing it a bit more and have a couple of other issues that really are screaming out for a patch..

1. On MANY occasions a script hasn't activated properly so I'm stuck and have to load a save game - for example, escorting a scientist through a flame tunnel, I get to the end, he gets there too and then just stands there.. Git!

2. The map is awfully un-userfriendly. It's a massive pain to get the damn thing to center on where I want and the zoom thingies are a nightmare. Yes, it's how it'd be on the PDA phone thingy he's got, I imagine, but it's still a pain!

(also, the objectives seem to get muddled up and at one point I ended up getting a bit lost and going in circles because the objective pointer got confused..)

It's a fairly fun game, but it really needs to be patched a LOT.

The graphics don't look anywhere near as good "in daylight", but when I'm underground with my torch on.. well.. NOT BAD!

I've found some fun weaponry that feels a bit beefier though, thank gods..
