NMA's General Consensus Debates

I have no problem with the community, I have a problem with obnoxious people and people who are so biased it's insane that someone can exist in that state of mind. So far that's only about 5 people here. You started smack talking out of nowhere when I pointed something out, so what's your problem with me?

I am not saying that you're so much wrong but rather missunderstanding the situation at hand.

See I repeatedly told you that it is a part of what makes this community special in it's own way and that you have to deal with it one way or another. Just as how I have to deal with it on Bethesda forums if I start to critize Bethesda and any of their games.

And I say this again, for the third or fourth time. If you feel that someone has crossed a line than talk to the damn mods. It is really that simple. Unless you have such a case there is not much to talk about really. Otherwise we are not talking about trolling but opinions, and people have a damn right to be btichy with F3 and/or Bethesda. Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 play a large role in this community. And for ANYONE following the history of NMA there is no surprise why there is such a hard stance on F3 and Bethesda. No one of us here who's reasonable really likes trolling, be it from one side OR(!) the other.

Yes, this community is biased. If that is the word you want to use. But that is how it is.

I can cite 1 problem right here, right now: You can't distinguish between "biased" and "close minded". Bias is inherent to EVERYONE, it's not a state of being that possesses a slider where you can be too much or too little. Whether one is open to new ideas or closed off to any entirely is not a matter of bias, it's a matter of their willingness to be open minded. If you were to say, "My bad, I meant I have a problem with obnoxious people and people who are so close minded it's insane, but besides using the wrong words, I still feel the same", I'd have no further qualms.

But using the wrong words is an ongoing qualm I have with anyone and everyone, whenever it's used. See my sig for just how important it means to me. Living or not, to me, language has a proper state, and that state is when the words conveyed are as such that they are delivered and received as intended. If what you convey is so radically different from what others perceive it to mean that what they receive is nothing like what you meant, someone is making a mistake with their definitions.

I meant that, completely unintentionally, age has a direct impact on which games you play(ed). If you grew up in the 80s, chances are you played games in the 80s. If you grew up in the 90s, chances are you played games in the 90s. So on and so on. It doesn't mean someone who grew up in the 90s, like me, can't possibly have played Pong, because I did. It just means that chances are less likely you were to engage in something "before your time". The originals and the Bethesda games are a decade separated from one another, so age does make a difference in the fanbases. The fans of the originals are predominantly older than the fans of the new games PRECISELY because of their age. Not because they're 18 they therefore play this title and not that title, but because of the time period itself.

Unless you are really rich or a graphic whore, there isn't much chances that you only play recent games. If you cannot afford more than a new rig for each decade, you will have to look for oldies. Plus, you would miss context to compare with the recent one if you make a purpose hole on your game culture timeline. About the audience of Fo2 & Fo3, i maintain that there is a difference of target audience, regardless of age. If Fallout 3 was released in 1996, it would have targetted Tomb Raider, Daggerfall or Quake audience, while if Fo2 was released today, it would have targetted Age of Decadence or Underrail audience. Those two audiences already existed in 1996 and still exist today. You don't have to be old to play games like Underrail and don't have to be young to play games like Skyrim. I know a lot of old players that play Skyrim and i have some buddies that only discovered isometric RPG recently and were blown away by the titles they tried (WL2/SR DF).

I am using the term correctly, not sure why you'd argue this:

"prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair."

If someone constantly bashes FO3 and defends all of NV's faults, they are biased in favor of NV. I am using it correctly. If it really means that much to you, I'm not sure why you'd be pedantic about it.

I say this again for the third or fourth time because you're clearly not reading, I am not reporting anyone because I am not offended. Why do you keep repeating that when I explained it to you clearly?

You have a skill for misunderstanding.

Prejudice means to preemptively judge, that's where the etymology of the word originates. Prejudice for or against something just means a slant in a direction. Indicating that "usually" considered unfair does not make it definitively unfair. So, the definition you pulled up you totally failed to understand. As I already illustrated, you confused closed mindedness with bias. Bias is LITERALLY (and *I* am using that word correctly, unlike its "common" modern usage) having a formed stance/opinion, a personal perception, on any particular matter, and EVERYONE does. It's not an issue of having excessive or absent bias, because it's a binary thing, and it's ALWAYS equal to 1; i.e. everyone has a bias. I don't know how many different ways I'll need to explain this to you, but suffice it to say, bias is simply not a thing to be upset over. Pure and simple, there are zero aspects of bias to take issue with. None. Not unless you wanna be a MASSIVE hypocrite. Not the case with close mindedness. So long as you're adequately open minded, it's perfectly fine to take serious issue with the former.

Regardless, I gave a real open opportunity for you to make good, and you went out of your way to step all over that chance. Says a lot about character.

Unfortunately, I lack the patience and attention span to play the first two Fallout games

I'm not afraid to admit it

Instead, to make up for it, I try to read as much as I can about it so I can understand the events in the newer games

Opportunity to make good? What do you mean?

I didn't misunderstand, you claimed I was misusing a term I was not misusing as I was entirely correct. You tried to high-horse grammar nazi it and it did not work, so I'm sorry that didn't work out for you.

There is no high-horse grammar nazi'ing going on. I genuinely pointed out a mistake you made, I genuinely pointed out how little it would take for all to be well, and you genuinely refused to acknowledge any of that. I was nice, you were rude. Good for you.

@Jebus tapdancing Christ on a crutch. I think I nearly broke my hip on the way in, what with all the piss and vinegar getting sprayed around. Locking this up to let some of the levels drain off.
