NPC Armor

Great stuff Paravel! It looks perfect. One question:
why is the background grey? In case you didnt know,
the game requires the backgrounds be the exact same
blue in the orginal FRM's.

So now comes the hard part - keep it up!

BTW, feel free to make each NPC's armour unique.
Jotisz and i did this with vic's leather jacket.
Get creative and put rips, tears, icons, scrawls, or
any other characterisations you feel would fit.

BUT - a) it must look great!
b) it must fit the personality of the NPC
c) it should be symetrical unless you want
to spend ages doing all views.
d) it must fit FO2 pallette
e) IMO looks best when subtle.

Alright, I'll try to keep you updated as I work on metal cassidy. I haven't tested it in game yet but the transparency has been working fine in the frm viewer (I made the gif in photoshop and imageready, I just randomly choose the gray for that, otherwise it has the bright blue background).

I finished HMMETLAA.FRM for Cassidy (Metal armor idle animation) and it looks really good. Something I was wondering is if we have a list of the weapon types each character uses, because I don't think Cassidy ever uses big guns or rocket launchers, plasma rifle etc. And if he indeed doesn't that'd save a lot of work and I can focus on animations relevant to the game. In the meanwhile I'll make sure I do animations guaranteed to be included (Running, walking etc.)

Per's Fallout 2 walkthrough lists following animation frames for Cassidy :

Spear, pistol, rifle.

Actually it would be nice if everyone could use every weapon even if they could not hit a barn meter away with them. (and there are some guns that they have skills to use but can't because they don't have the animation frames for them).

This is more realistic. So, sure Cassidy could try to use a mini-gun but would probably end up shooting the player more often then anything else. ;)

Yes, i agree it would be good. But first
we'll get the existing NPC armour frames
done and dusted. Then we can move onto
onto adding weapons. I'm gonna have a try at
making sniper rifle sequences for the hero
using sniper rifle or hunting rifle. But not
for a while yet....

I believe some joinable human NPCs get actual rather good with weapons that they do not mention they can use. I remember giving vic the small pulse weapon or alien blaster. They are energy weapons and can hit anything really at the start, but after some level ups he is pretty good with them. So maybe they might even be oke with some other weapons.

Well they do that already with weapons they are supposed to be skilled at  so only difference would be the number of team mates they'd kill :P

First rule of Fallout 2 : Never, under any circumstance, give NPC a brust capable weapon. They'll hit you or someone else in your team more often than not.

Here's some more of sulik in his
new threads.

Im posting to ask opinions on:

1) the metal armour - what do
you think of the two straps?

2) the PA - Its just a bit of fun
really. Plus - I know there's been
some question marks over sulik
with bare feet in PA as it wouldn't
be a sealed suit ....

love the metal armor! the straps are great looking too!

as for the power armor, there should be more head/neck visible.
maybe it would be easier to work with cabot frms (helmetless paladin) also, PA version NEEDS boots!

Yeah, those two really look great. I think I'd prefer the power armor sans bare feet but it's all awesome.

Sulik + PA + no helmet + bare feet = not so appealling

Sulik + PA + no helmet = sure (I can only ever see Sulik and Cassidy going no helmet in PA)

Sulik + metal + straps = awesome way to differentiate

Well thats good 'cos putting
in those damn feet is a pain.
I've drawn sulik's feet so many
times now i can smell them :)

About the straps: the thing is,
leather jacket and combat have
only one strap. Leather armour
will have none. Metal will have
two! Do we think this will cause
continuity issues?

Hmmm - IMO I don't see this causing continuity issues and in any mod the author/contributors have the right to modify and add to accepted dogma.

I don't think FO fans are that anal... lol. I don't see a problem with it. Bare feet in PA does not work for sure.

I had an idea last night, we should create a sprite for mudcrabs as a new enemy  , so we can lessen the pain of FO3 when its released.
