Obsidian almost made Baldur's Gate 3

I'd easily take BG 3 from Obsidian than New Vegas TBH.

Honestly a question of taste, I don't give a damn about Baldur's Gate, the Forgotten Realms, or Fantasy RPGs in general as they usually boil down to the same generic mess.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of D&D, so I greatly prefer New Vegas to a hypothetical BG3.

Ehh, BG2 completely wrapped up the Bhaalspawn's story. I really don't see how they could have continued it unless they retconned Throne of Bhaal's ending to a riduculous degree. Plus I'd rather have New Vegas than yet another DnD-based fantasy game.

Back when BIS was working on BG3 it was called the Black Hound. It didn't follow the Bhaalspawn story at all, that one is closed, though it would have been similar gameplay-wise. It actually would follow more closely on the story of IWD II.

I wouldn't expect differently from any sequel now. The best you can do is kind of side-spinoff the series with some characters and plot elements. The main plot is closed.

Its only called Baldurs Gate 3 because of licensing reasons. It would have been a forgotten realms game set in Faerun with a completely different story same as "The Black hound".

lets be honest it would of been shit, i mean look at neverwinter nights
2, that game was so bad i think it gave me brain cancer

I don't know, looking how sparsely populated (content wise) some factions or areas were it's kinda hard not to feel the game was rushed. But before BN jumps on me, yeah this is not a NV thread. ;)

So does the story in any other genre, if no proper effort is made. There are a plenty of high fantasy games with compelling stories that aren't entirely formulaic, or at least have a unique storytelling style.

If you like that sort of games BG was pretty much one of the best games out there. And thus I always cringe a little when I think about Dragon Age and how it is meant to be a "spiritual successor" to BG.

New Vegas wasnt rushed? Sure felt like that
The engine is the issue.

I think its not really obsidians fault that they had to use this bug ridden mess which Beth is using for their games.

It was a matter of poor planning when using an unfamiliar engine.

A rushed Fallout game wih bugs on release? That's new.

I like how this is turning into a New Vegas thread again, after the New Vegas stuff before was moved to the Vats. :>

SW: KOTOR 2 wasn't really buggy if I remember correctly but story-wise it was cut short big time... New Vegas was good overall but the end game seemed truncated big time.

No it was a little buggy. I recall a few issues personally, but I liked it better than the first anyway.

It crashed, had scripting problems (a conversation looped infinitely if you picked the wrong node, even after the last official patch was released) and the minigames were broken at release, iirc. By Obsidian's standards that's probably non-buggy, given the shape of NWN2 at release, but still...

EDIT: On the other hand I'm perhaps being too harsh on Obsidian, given the state of most RPG releases I've played during my gaming times. Most of their games are buggy though, although luckily not everyone had to deal with the bugs and with times the reputation got exaggerated to the point that some people believe their PCs will explode if they install an Obsidian game.
