OOC->Chapter 2: Lone Wanderers

I put the different reply's in one WORD doc and it's about 137 pages!!! And that's all chapter 1??? Wow, this is gonna be a very thick book one day...

Hi people!
Finally got an account thanks to Welsh! Didnt think of using my college email address.
Well looks like Fangs world is back up again.
Hmmm, just want to say soz for not posting in the last chapter but i have my reasons! Hopefully it might be different in this one :)
I dont really know where my character is in this RP anymore. i think I'll go and read the archieves to see what happened in the end!

Grand! We're rounding up the old crew. Welcome back, Rogue Hex. And yeah, you might wanna read the archives. We had to take control of your character so Rogue might be different than what you planned. :D

Hello, I'm new here. I got the run around because I was already a hotmail user and I had to open a new account with Lycos to get registered here.

Anyway, I am interested in participating here but I need nmore information about any rules covering character creation. I have an idea of the type of character I want to play but any details will be effected by your rules.

Having read the background about the world setting I am impressed with the imagaination and hard work that has obviously gone into this enterprise.

Also a quick question to satisfy my currently injured vanity, why does it say 'hideous freak of nature' under my name next to my post?

Thats your current rank, it will change when your number of posts gets bigger.

Dear Reaper-

Well, character creation is a pretty broad kind of thing. Rules are pretty lax. You can be from any of the factions from "Fangs World" or you could be none. We have one ghoul character, and a few ghoul NPCs. The character I am playing is a former "badge" kind of a cop, who has become a bounty hunter/ head hunter. Another is an aging Blade and a third, who should be joining soon, is a young woman looking for her family but who is good with a rifle.

Generally we have stayed away from heavy weapons, heavy armor. The story should move more on plot than action, and dialogue should be interesting and engaging. Give your character strengths but also allow some weaknesses too. Grim has scared himself in the sewars and was driven solely for revenge. Caleb was becoming delusional, Rogue is somewhat innocent and Skik is a bit crazy. Fang, a powerful Slayer, might have had a weakness to stubborn faith in those who might betray him. At the same time Caleb is a strong and confident fighter, Skik knows the tunnels and explosives, Rogue is a sharpshooter and Grim is a "jack of all trades."

Fang's world is one filled with deceit and subterfuge. Many factions with spies working together and at cross purposes. The world is filled with nasty raiders (so far no Mutants, but that is still an option) and struggling farmers and caravans. There are a lot of groups but there are a lot of plain folks trying to get by.

So don't go for a super character, but a character you would like to play who you would find interesting, who has strengths but weaknesses too.

Thanks Welsh, I shall think about what you said.
Do we need to post what kind of character we are playing on the OOC thread before introducing him to the real story?

I dont think you have to post your character before you join.
Before on the old forums there was a general character thread for anyone who wanted to introduce there characters.

If you want to post your character then you or one of us could start that thread again. Its up to you really? But i dont think that you have to before you join up.

I realise I am being a pest but does what Rogue said mean that if I don't have to present my character before he joins the story, I just post an intro in the IC thread like all the other people already participating?

Don't worry about it, Reaper. Just wait for an opportunity to present your character. In the last chapter, the opening setting was a sleazy bar. Naturally, alot of gunfighters, heroes, mercenaries, and thugs will be awaiting there. That was a perfect place to open things up. Don't just have you character appear out of nowhere just in time to save the group with both guns blazing.

Or, if your character is within the setting, have him do what his character would normally do. For instance, if he's part of the Border Patrol, have him wandering around Tabis keeping watch. Or if he's a ghoul (we really like ghouls in this RPG :D ) you can have him wandering the sewers. These are just examples. Its all up to you, Reaper.

I was worried about any systems, you know like a table top dice RPG where you have stats and stuff. Since I cannot find anything like that in the IC posts I assume that ins not how it works here. You just rely on people keeping it realistic. I like that idea.

I will post an intro for my character IC soon and hope he meets with approval.

See you after bombs have flown and the world is blown to hell.

Actually that's how I thought about this at first. But actually this is more like a cooperative novel. The rules are more social and less formal.

Keep it realistic.
You can play other characters just don't kill them off (unless the fail the 'no post in 7 day rule, at which point you can terminate them)
You can create and play NPC.

But, try to keep the story consistent. For example, right now we have a temporal lag. Caleb is about a week and a half a head of the rest of the players. Likewise, protrayals of the town, events, characters. That can be harder than you think.

That's great. I always try to look upon role-play as a cooperative novel because even in table top stuff, the end result, if you wrote up all the resolutions of dice rolls and fitted it together properly would read like a novel.

As an aspiring, reasonalby talented but lazy writer this idea appeals greatly to me because other people do a lot of the work. :D

How far are we allowed to take small liberties?

I had an idea about a little offshoot of the Slayers that my character could come from (it won't make him a power-armoured human tank, don't worry). I think my idea is cool and not over the top but i'm not sure about revealing it yet.
I am talking about a small twist that will let my character still be associated with the Slayers while not quite fitting the usual stereotype.
So I wanted to know how people felt about little additions to the world and its organisations.

Well i think they add to the story and make it more in-depth and realistic. Little twists are excellent and for me the idea of not revealing everything to other characters adds great personality and style to your own character.

Cool, :) . I'll just wait till Grim and co get out of the sewers, so I don't interrupt the flow in the narrative. Then I shall introduce my character to the setting.

Thank you all for being so accomodating and helpful while I was finding my feet.

Hey np....
A new member to the Role Playing Comunity is allways great!
I'll look forward to finding out about your character. Damn you allready got me curios!
