OOC->Chapter 2: Lone Wanderers

My computer messed up my last post on the IC thread and it posted twice and I wrote a quick apology message but both the extra copy and the apology message are gone. I couldn't delete them at the time, though I wanted to, did the moderator or Administrator do it?

Does anyone reckon Fang will be returning?

Judging by the mayhem and destruction occuring in Tabis at the moment, having a power-armoured bloke around and our side would probably be for the best.

Yes, I did.

I pm'ed you about it, man.

Fang?

Well I have emailed Fang to see if he will make an appearance, but so far nothing. His PC might be down or he might be otherwise busy. Either way, I wouldn't count on him.

In some ways that's regretable. Fang 'created' this world and had an interesting character. But on the otherside, having too much of a role play built around one character might not be for the best. It can place too much of the game on the shoulders of one participant, and if that participant is infrequent or sporadic, then the rest of us may have to deal with a long pause. That could break the momentum.

I would suggest either three things:

(1) Fang and his buddies are still hanging with the ghouls, and may be elsewhere. Perhaps they are working with the ghoul reactor or maybe the Slayers are forming a stronger alliance.

(2) Fang and company were sadly killed fighting off the raiders in Chapter 1 and we may yet retrieve their bodies.

(3) Although Fang might not know it, the Slayers (or a faction thereof) are actually 'bad guys' up to something devious, but happeneding over the horizon from the events of the game. Perhaps they will show up again but perhaps not.

Personally I favor 1 or 3, but I think this is up to the rest of the players at the moment.

Moving right along

Ok, folks, we have about five regulars now and still are open for more.

I was thinking that I might as well toss out this question to see how its going and any thoughts you might have on the progression of this thing, as well as any suggestions anyone might have.

So? Any thoughts?

It seems to be going well. I love the setting and all the world details.

I have ended up having my character come closer ro meeting the others than I expected at this stage. I was going to have Gabriel hang around town a while, watching and waiting rather than rush down into the sewers and do anything even resembling saving the day. Gabriel might be cool and nice deep down but he is not a true hero.

I am beginning to see the problem with people who don't post as often as you. When you write something but want to stop short of explosive action that will require taking control of other characters and then you are just left waiting for them to do something that you can then join in.

Still, I have only posted two IC posts but it is looking good. 8)

Avatars and things

Actually I like your avatar. I wasn't sure which to choose or where to choose from, so I stole mine from Interplay (they have quite a few Fallout Avatars).

You're right, people do stop and pause right at the moment of some important action, and if you post regularly, you get impatient. Some folks just post more than others. Because some are close to exams, I expect that the posts might become fewer.

On one side, you have to be patient. In Chapter 1 it became a matter of only a couple of people posting, and finally getting impatient and deciding to "wrap it up." In some ways that wrapped up too fast, but the story was stuck.

If you are impatient and want to give the others a chance to "move," You can introduce either a new character or an NPC.

For instance, I am not sure if Mr. Ibis (aka Gravedigger or Grandpa Death - which is what the kids call him and yes, I stole that from Donnie Darko) is a character or an NPC. Mandrake, the clearest thing we have to a badguy, is an NPC can that people can play when they want to play that side. So if you are running of of options or are getting impatient, there is nothing wrong with having a second story line moving along. Which I guess is the most important thing- keep the story moving in a way that makes sense, is consistent and is basically logical.

On the otherhand, if you wait too long for something to happen, and it doesn't or you feel the need to move the story through a snag, then do it. A rule of thumb is not to kill major characters (although just about everything else is ok). Like all good stories, it needs proper pacing and sometimes those long pauses can kill a story, kind of a 'writers block' meets 'group think.'

I am not sure what your thoughts are in the story. As for plots-
(1) Gunslinger has painted a story line in which his friends are being put on display at Grey Cliffs.
(2) Mandrake is currently off to Red Water and then Grey Cliff.
(3) Ibis has visions of the apocalypse but his dog is getting laid. (4) Rogue is still looking for his family.
(5) Gabriel is shadowing Caleb.
(6) Skik is probably coming to a conclusion that the Slavers will make his life unbearable.
(7) Fang and company are MIA (but maybe Rogue can explain that).
(8) There is still an incidious plot afoot,
(9) looks like a reunion of sorts on the sewars. AND
(10) Oh and there is still the matter of catching a deathclaw for Yacob.
Seems like a lot going on. Any thoughts on how to proceed? I am leaning on bringing the company together (maybe bring up Wally - the ghoul doctor from Chapter 1), getting some healing and then blowing town.

What about you? I would also like to hear if any of you are interested in a new subplot or new characters.

^ Ooooooh, pretty obscure. I like that :D. Trust Fang to send a mysterious message in a bottle.

Anyways, I like how the different characters have agendas. In Chapter One, Grim's after his betrayer, Caleb's gunning down raiders to warn his brothers, Fang's keeping the peace, and Rogue was looking for her family. They might not be the most noble goals but they are realistic. Its all gritty and down-to-earth. Besides, its a cutthroat world with the post-apocalypse.

As for the posts, I know what you mean. See, I think you're refering to me when you say some people stop just short of action. :D I can't help it, its my nature. I just think its cool to have Caleb dramatically click back his revolvers as the unknown enemy comes to us. This time around, I've been posting more, almost once a day. Last time, I was posting seldomly because my posts were like ten pages long. Its better if you thin out your posts so that other characters can join along in the fun.

But pretty much, we're doing fine so long as I don't have to lead the party :D.

On posting

No, GUnslinger, I wasn't referring to you specifically. I think, based on the ICC so far, that everyone has done a bit of this. It's like writing short chapters. You have to stop yourself when the moment is still hot, thus allowing the post to continue by another player or as something to go back to.

As for "group think" meets "writers block" actually I was referring more to Chapter 1 where no one would write for a week at a time and that just about killed it. Sometimes you have to press on, even if its hard.

As for Fang, hopefully he will be joining us or maybe he's just waiting for the right moment. We'll see what happens. The more the merrier.

I'm a lot more interested in this now, i find my self waiting to get on the internet to see whats happened. Hopefully i can keep it up.

As for the story and plots, i think they are going good. The characters are coming together again and this could be usefull to decide whats going to heppen next, future paths some what.
I'm also one of those people who stop before the heat of the battle. Looking through the posts i've done it in nearly every one!
Most of the times its been to let other people fight there side but i'll try to cut down on it.

Is it possible to introduce a new character to the RP? You said earlier about NPC's as a second plot. Well i have a pretty good one that i thought up not so long ago.

Reaper, you avatar looks cool!

NPCs and characters-

I say go for it. If you have an interesting character that can add to the story, why not?

It can help should, for instance, your character be unconscious and dieing, others are carrying you around and hoping they won't drop you too much, and you have nothing to do but wait and see what happens next.

Whether a character is actually a real character or just an NPC, I am not sure. In most RPG the NPC is controlled by a "manager" but since we don't have one, we might as well play our own.

By guess is that characters are those that we really don't want to die and the ones we would want to play out. NPC's are eventually expendable.

Sounds good to me. I just have to make the fitting finishes to the character and then wait for the right introduction time.
As for playing our own NPC's, well this one can be played by anyone who wishes to have a go. The personality will be visable after the first couple of posts and as for the over all plot, well that is gonna be a surprise but you will get the general idea of the characters alignment and what is intended.

One more thing on NPCs. One very crucial thing. Please notify the character who created the NPC before you do something like kill him off. I suggest PMing (using that more often, it seems) to gain permission or coordinate whatever you're going to do.

This is pretty moot coming from me since I don't have any NPCs and the ones I had, I killed (ahem, Gary Jones). I'm just giving you, welsh, a headsup that I'm not planning to scrag Mandrake. Well, at least, any time *soon*. :D

If you can read this, it means I've somehow figured out how to use my computer again!

But anyways I'm around and ready to start writing again.

Hurray! I have never met you before Fang but since you seem to be the one responsible for this world in which we are setting our RPG I am glad you are back. Anyone with that kind of imagination would be a huge asset to any RPG.

That was why I asked here if you would be returning, after I read through some of the original Lone Wanderers chapter.

welcome back

Hey Fang-

Welcome back! It's good that we have the entire group back again. There seems a good amount of momentum and commitment here, so hopefully we can keep it running for awhile.
