Paranormal.

Hmm, I don't have much that's happened to me, in addition to the occational precursory dreams, yet this one happened to my father, even if it's not that spectacular. He's an analytic mind, physicist by education, and he himself seemed puzzled by this.. Anyway here comes the story;
It happened when he was around 16 to 18 years old, at the time he lived outside his parents home, but had come there to visit over the weekend. It was late September, and it was the day the first snow of that winter fell, sky was all blue and weather chilly (Less than -5 centigrade, this will be important later on). Well he decided to go for a walk on the nearby hills. At the time they lived in a small town in central Finland, and as all small towns in finland are, this too was engulfed in a thick forest. So my dad walks in the forest, and comes across a road. The area is striped with small emerency roads for military use, as there was an airbase nearby at the time, of which my grandfather was the commander of. There were footprints on the middle of the road, printed on snow that had not been there any more than three hours. It was a calm day. My dad decided to follow the road, as they often lead to intresting places (Eg military emerency depots) The footsteps went on for a few kilometers and then disappeared. Suddenly there was nothing, nothing to indicate where the person might have went. There was enough snow in all directions to make footprints on, and they were not to be found anywhere in the next woods next to them.

People don't just disappear.
Wind doesn't exterminate footprints on one place and leave them completely intact right next to it.
A helicopter (eg from the airbase) would have made a huge mark in the snow.
No one walks 2 kilometers perfectly backwards tracing their own steps. Why would someone do that in the middle of the woods anyway?

If you can give me some explanation, I'm grateful.

In addition, I find these stories quite intresting to read, please keep them coming.

you'd be amazed what weather can do...

when i was a kid, we had a lil' freak weather incident (2 actually, but that second isnt relevant here). on the front side of the house, it rained for two hours, and i mean STORMRAIN, not some sissy rain. so hard the sewers coudlnt take all the water. on the other side of the house, we were enjoying a nice lil' bbq.

not a DROP of rain on that side, the rain formed a curtain of water, just on the middle of our roof. the curtain never moved an inch for two hours.

just to say, weather can do some freaky things, botia. i'm quite sure wind or extra snow could easily have covered the tracks. it's freaky, but possible.

There have been a few occurences where I've been sitting at my PC, and the windows nearby rattle. At first thought, I passed it off as wind, but it happened again, but it sounded like someone had been knocking on the window.

I got up and looked the window and turned on the outside light and no one was there. Again the window knocked and I jumped up to see if there was some arsehole trying to freak me out (my neighbours are notorious for this)...

Anywho, I stood by the window to see if anything was there and the weirdest thing happened, the bushes that line the back fence waved as if someone was moving through them, but these were much too small for a person to hide in them. The trees above the shrubs did not move at all, they stood completely still. I have no idea what caused this weird shit to occur, but it wasn't my neighbours, as they were away as told to me by my mum.

At the time it didn't really freak me out, but thinking back I'm surprised I wasn't phased by it at all.

Along with that kind of stuff, just seeing weird shadows and shapes along my backyard and in the house caused by strange disfigurement of light is really intriguing...

I have weird things happen to me all the time. I often wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of voices in my room, but when I fully regain my senses... nothing. I also have a lot of premonitions that predict events several months in advance.

I often hear voices that call my name, it started as whispers but they've gotten louder now. When I look around to see who it is- no one around.

It drives me crazy...

Birds seems to like the putty around the window borders (probably because it contains fat). When they pick on it it sounds like someone is knocking.

Sure sounds like your going crazy man  Do NOT ever try to kill these voices by other means than mental power.

So, these voices, are they like coming from inside your head or the outside? I mean do you think they belong to you or to someone else?

Try wearing tin foil hats, it jams the alien mind control :look:

Here's the thing though. During the night around my place (when it only really seems to occur) there are no birds around. Give or take a few fruit bats in summer, but only recently it has happened (and it's autumn here). And those birds in the article I have never seen anywhere around Sydney, let alone Australia.

I can guarantee it's not a bird, aas most of them seem to be attracted to our reflective window tint on our lounge room outer windows

Or hang coathangers around the room too, it may help...

I guess I've had a similar situation, but involving noises. Once I woke up to the sound of a rustling plastic bag, and it may have been... but as far as I know there was no plastic bag in the bin at the time, but I could almost swear I heard it while fully awake...

the voices might just be tinnitus. it's a form of hearing damage. causes some people to hear the sea, some people to hear a non-existant radio, some people a low continuous beep, other people voices.

some forms of tinnitus are so light, that you only notice them in the quietest conditions (ergo: late at night, in your room when everyone is asleep).

the thing with the human mind is, it constantly tries to identify & understand. you dont see what you see. you see what you think you see.

same goes for hearing. tinnitus produces noise. your mind tries to identify it & often translates it into something familiar. words, names, your own name.

tinnitus is VERY common. luckily the lighter versions are no problem. unluckily the heavier ones can be completely unbearable. almost all rockstars and DJs are affected by it btw. it's becoming even more common due to in-ear headphones & such.

I don't plan on it, but I really want to find out wtf it is, whether I am going crazy or if someone's fucking with me.

If it is tinnitus, then what would cause me to see things? I have awoken in the middle of the night unable to move and only look around, when I do I see shadows moving about.

Oh God!

At my old house one of the scariest experience I ever had involved the noise of what sounded exactly like a plastic bag crumpling and un-crumpling. I had went to bed the day before a trip and had stuff stored in a plastic bag on the farside of the room. After the lights were out and I was laying there I could hear the bag...rustling. When this happened a few times I dismissed it. Then it began to happen every few seconds and did so for about five minutes. During this time I struggled to explain how this could possibly happen since I was alone in the room and no windows were open. I eventually summoned the courage to quickly get up run across the room and flip the light switch on. When I did I looked where the plastic bag was. It just sat where it was still with the stuff in it. I looked everywhere around the room where a small animal could have hidden itself. Also nothing. I went back to bed and never heard it again. To this day I still have no idea how that sound occurred so often for so long.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Relax Gail_Saint, what you describe just sounds like good ol' fashioned sleep paralysis.

I get this sometimes, and although it's very terrifying, it's quite normal for most to experience at some point. Some are more afllicted by it than others though.

As for hearing voices while awake, yeah, could be tinnitus. Schizophrenia would be the worst, most extreme case; very unlikely.

Unless, of course, drugs are involved.

TVD: I only recall hearing this this one time, but strange noises have become a commonplace at my house now. I swear to God that there was once something alive in our air conditioning ducts, but no one else had ever heard this before.

It was only ever at night, mainly when I was much younger (probably my wild imagination) but the ducts used to move in such a way that it sounded like a small animal was crawling through them. It was so very strange though, it felt as if I was being watched through the air conditioning duct in my roo, and avoided walking under it at all costs.

Has anyone else ever woken up from a suppossed nightmare, but the sat up straight tried to yell/talk and then realised they are still in a dream?? This only happened on a few occasions when I was around 6, but mate, that scared the shit out of me!!

Unless, of course, drugs are involved.

Schizophrenia would still be the worst case. Drug induced hallucinations are still better than schizophrenia, as they can cease through stopping use. Unless you mean, schizophrenia is likely if drugs are involved, in which case, I don't know. I'm not sure if it can be caused by drug use. I'll look into it.

Hell, neither do I.

But I meant schizophrenia due to drug use if that clears anything up... But I;m not sure if drugs can cause this.

I used to get a really bad case of insomnia occasionally a few years ago... You see and hear and feel some strange shit when you don't sleep for a few days.

also remember that during the first moments of waking up, your brain functions about as good as after a frat keg party...

(no lie, they tested it. waking up = heavily intoxicated as far as the brain is concerned.)

I remember once waking up in the middle of the night the use the facilities. When my feet touched the floor and I went to stand I collapsed. Scared the living shit out of me cause I couldn't get back up, plus I really had to piss. Turns out both of my legs fell asleep. Not so wierd, but funny as hell and just goes to show you that when you are sleepy the smallest thing can seem magnified to the point of terror.

Heh, that's funny, 'cause I've once had a similar experience and everytime I tell people about it, no one believes me.
I was still a student at the time and it was during one of those really warm days in June. I had been studying at a girl's studio because the dorm in which I lived was hot as an oven and just when I was going home, it started to rain, but really really rain, a "stormrain" like you say. I started to run to the dorm, my clothes all wet within seconds until suddenly, a mere step, and the rain was gone. Surprised, I turned around only to see a curtain of rain just a meter behind me. Totally weird. I could have bent over and washed my hair in it while the rest of my body wouldn't have gotten wet (although I was leaking from running through it, duh).
Wicked stuff, but when you think about it it's kind of logical. I mean: the rain has to stop somewhere, and since there wasn't any wind, the transition from rain to no rain would have been much more abrupt. Never experienced a thing like that again, though.

Seen it also, only in the mountains though. We were cruising back from B.C. with the SUN ROOF OPEN, came around a corner and BAM!!! rain and hail. No warnings, after a km of driving, dry as a popcorn fart again.
