Yeah, actually all that would prove to Bethesda is that they should keep their profitable franchise out of the hands of Obsidian.

I think the best thing that could happen is that Obsidian's game sells well, all the good features like better writing and hardcore mode are well recieved, and Bethesda is forced to step up and make Fallout 4 reach the new standard of quality.

Also your predictions are fairly delusional.

I Guess I didn't lay on enough sar CHASM sauce on the profiTABLE.

Not trying to judge a game too early, but I have the same feeling I had when I saw screen shots of Fallout 3. What the hell? Such a shame they have to use such a terrible game engine. Thats what I think the problem is. I never liked how Gamebyro performed. It was poorly designed. I have yet to actually play a real Obsidian game. I'm hoping for Alpha Protocol. (real as in, not NWN 2, or etc).

yeah, I really wish they had spent another year or so on tweaking the engine, especially improving the animations. I can already tell from the screenshots that the animations will be the same old crappy ones and we're gonna get another Fallout On Ice.

same goes for textures - obviously they've added more textures, but unfortunately they stick to the quality of F3, which is sub par to say the least.

The new meme is explaining away fallout 3's inconsistencies by pretending that the east coast and the west coast are on opposite sides of the solar system

vault tec got halfway across the country and just said "fuck let's start making the vaults completely different"

I blame the engine.

Still, it's February.

Release is in the Fall.

Michelangelo with only a chisel and hammer was able to create great things out of stone..

This time we've handed him a fork and some pliers..

As for the Helghast inspired helm/armour design: Sod off. It looks freaking awesome.

*Holds his faith in the Obsidian team*

I like the look of it but I see what you're saying. That said, Advanced Power Armor never looked particularly 50s to me either.

The concept of Power Armor is very 50s, but even the old model didn't look extraordinarily 50s. APA completely lost touch, and was way too modern. Like many things in Fallout 2, it kind of missed the setting mark.
I remember seeing a picture of a WWII gas mask for children that looked like the APA helmet.

I have to agree though, even if not really Falloutish, it looks quite cool ...

Also instead of Jin-Roh-power-armor there is the Fat-So-power-armor

They're really going to have to outdo themselves there if they want to make up for running with Fallout 3's shitty engine, mechanics and graphics.

So fucking true. Obsidian have to turn shit into gold and do they have the magic...?

@Cold Zero

The problem with the feeder belt thing is that it does not appear that Fallout 3 can support any form of tubes coming from the backpack to the gun.
The F3 flamethrower even has the holes for the fuel line to go into but I'm guessing they had clipping problem when animating or in standard Beth style just decided to ignore it.

Aye, the picture shows an explosion and everything. But like you said, the design doesn't make much sense, not that a "grenade machine gun" could ever make that much sense.

SuAside, help!
as shown earlier in the thread, 40mm 'grenade machine guns' of a sort do exist, but they're a fairly recent thing. in them past, they'd rather go for mortars, recoilless rifles, .50cal MGs or stuff like that.

they're never fired from the hip though. :)

i don't like the concept of one being in Fallout though. it's just another thing in the history of always bigger and more AWESOME weapons. becomes a tad bit retarded, eventually. like nuke-a-zookas. ;)

but anyhow, it'll probably be one of the things i'll just ignore.

Actually, if i remember correctly the MK19 grenade machinegun was designed in 1966. Entered service in 67. I was reading about FDF equipment recently.

So grenade machinegun is not THAT recent.

Yet it's a fixed turret that must be mounted for wo reasons : wheight, and recoil (the gun only wheigh 30 kg, with at least 15 more kg of ammunitions)
However, with a power-armor, I say why not.

The niche of grenade launchers/rifle in the Fallout setting seemed to get taken over by small rocket launchers with HE/AP rockets.

Wrong. The backpack doesn't look like a grenade storage either. Please explain to me how would you conveniently pack grenades in those drums? Also where is the auto loader system for a gun? All we can see are a few hoses about inch wide, which are a normal thing for a fuel to be transported. Are grenades getting smaller on their way to the gun? Also the tip of the gun is smaller than the barrel. I guess it shoots marble size grenades. Also notice the heat distortion near the end of the gun. Grenades don't do that.
Firstly, it's usually best not to insult people for being presumptuous when your own conclusion has no better basis. Secondly, it doesn't look anymore like a flamethrower than an automatic grenade launcher, especially given the lack of the napalm tanks used on other flamethrowers in Fallout 3. Thirdly, you're talking about correct weapon design in a game with this gun. Fourthly, you're ignoring the content of the screenshot outside of the weapon. EDIT: Finally, you assume that they would devote the resources to make a new model for a new version of an existing weapon.

Firstly I did not insult, as he did as I remember, I just said I tired of the way people act. Putting that aside, I know I'm too positive and optimistic about it but only because it's Obsidian. If someone can do it at least a bit decent it's them. Yes the gun lacks napalm canisters but I don't see it as much of a wrong assumption considering the picture you linked. Let's just wait and see.

IT ISN'T THE DAMN FIFTIES!

IT IS WHAT PEOPLE IN THE FIFTIES THOUGHT WHAT THE FUTURE WOULD LOOk LIKE...

Now Blown to shit and then pissed on....

.....and now people living in the shattered carcass of it's remains.

Or something.

I know about Atomic Annie nuclear cannon and its 'what if' counterpart in Van Buren; Nuclear Nellie.

But I hope they do not put a weapon like that in their product, or at least not something you can fire the whole time like some crazy madman.

I already felt that the Fatman and the exploding nuclear powered cars downplayed Atomic Power way to much in recent Fallout.
"Just make sure that you are outside the blastwave, then swallow some Rad X and wear a radiation suit and you will be just fine."

Atomic weapons are suppose to be scary, especially in the Fallout universe in which they ruined the world to begin with.

true. and hell, a 25mm or 30mm MG/cannon is pretty damn near to a grenade MG anyway.

it's just that it has seen very little practical and widespread use for various reasons.
it did see service in Vietnam etc, so yeah, it was around, but it was never a common sight.
