Pick a Hobby, any Hobby...

I had to look up the term Plinking, I had no idea what you were referring to...

Code:
Plinking refers to informal target shooting done at non-traditional targets such as tin cans, glass bottles, and balloons filled with water.[1] The term is an onomatopoeia of the sound a bullet or other projectile makes when hitting a tin can, or other similar target, referring to the sharp, metallic sound, known as a "plink".

Firearms of all calibres and types are commonly used for plinking. At one end of the power range, .50 calibre rifles have been taken to the desert and used to shatter boulders. Undoubtedly the most common calibre used for plinking is the .22 Long Rifle rimfire cartridge,[2] since these rounds are relatively inexpensive and have a low recoil. Many young people use airguns and airsoft guns for plinking, because they can be very inexpensive, are safer because they are usually much less powerful than cartridge firearms, and also because in some countries, airguns don't require a firearms license, or are subject to less stringent regulation.

Plooking is another hobby worth pursuing.

Drinking, no wait, I already do that.

Umm, I would say gun collecting, car modifications and street racing.

This may shock everyone but, I would love to get into modding and try my hand at it. I have been thinking about moding for a while now......

Strangely enough, people with stupid ideas are the ones to mod, while those with smart ideas usually fail to do their mod because it's too large to grasp.

You can visit the modding section of the forum. With little digging, you can find some good beginner tutorials.

And when he says a little digging he means the third sticky'd thread down that says tutorials :P

It is incredible how many times people miss reading stickies. Even I've done that, to be honest.
For that reason, I always say little digging. And I mean little.

I always wanted to master some musical instrument like the piano or guitar, but I never pursued that because of laziness and lack of funds.

My cousin is late 30s and picked up guitar about a year ago. He's awesome now. You can get very good deals during sales at a music store, I would go for it. 100-150 USD for a decent setup. Certainly a hobby that doesn't require a huge income to support. Plus, then you can join an old man band and live your dream as a rock star at the local trash bar down the street.

I'm curious whether anyone has tried learning to play guitar using those new video games. I suspect that could be a very effective method if done correctly.

My hobby would be omnipotence.

I would start playing MTG to the point of seeing if I could be a pro. I've always been very good at playing it and extremely good at deck-building however it's cost has always been too much for me. Seriously considering the cards, time missed from work to attend tournaments, and cost in gas it would use up at least half my money spent on having fun and that's only to go like once a month (they hold type 2 weekly) and only have enough cards for one competitive deck. That's why I would considerate a "rich fantasy" hobby since it's practically out of my funding.

A damn shame since of all the things I've done for fun it was one of only a few that could be called a hobby and also the only way that was a creative outlet. In fact it's probably the most creative game I've ever played as far as letting the player create something from countless parts.

I miss the few years I did play it.

I got another one. Drumming. I've wanted to try drumming ever since my uncle gave me And Justice For All for my 9th birthday. An overwhelming fuck no from my mom, in both the financial department and from the PermaHeadache committee. Now I'm 23 and live in a cramped apartment where even loud acoustic guitar playing will throw my neighbors through a loop of bitchery. And I'm already trying to catch up with enough of my passions that were squashed by my parents/poor student days, drumming's gonna have to wait for a while.

My hobby would be omnipotence
Brilliant!

I understand that desire.
These days I do try to help out people with their projects but I have the feeling that in general I am not doing a good job at it as I let myself be distracted to easily and lack the focus to make some real results or learn to work with development kits.

Sort of the same as with drawing and writing, I would so much really like to get into these activities and more than ever be as good at these as the people I admire so much.
But I fear I am either to old or to undisciplined.

I think I can rule out age, Dutch -- I'm 23 and that describes my issues with taking on a hobby, such as modding or programming a simple OpenGL engine in Java.

My brother and me used to fantasize about mounting cameras on RC planes in the early 90's. Looks like it became possible:

You couldn't pay me to sail in the arctic. That is some hard core shit right there man. I've been on a sinking ship < a mile from shore and that caused enough anxiety. I'll just say when I was growing up my dad had SeaTow on speed-dial.

I want to experience many things in life, including hard core arctic sailing with the possibility of sinking in the middle of nowhere. Not too long ago some norwegian sailors actually went missing in the Ross sea.
