Planescape Torment Discussion: No Spoilers

"Fallout 4 adds to the lore"
So, I've been thinking of getting into this beauty. I've been watching a small playthrough and probably just got out of the Mortuary.

I heard this game had one of the best stories in Video Game History. Can anyone attest to that?

Who plays Planescape Torment for combat anyway?

Play it or drop dead, that thing is one of humanity's greatest achievements. Make sure you're good with some bug fixes and stuff, I think GoG has a good guide on that one.

Can't stand Planescape's combat.

That's why I always roll mage.

It's a pretty good one, best in history? No clue. But most people play a mage, the reason for it is that you can enjoy/explore the story to its fullest as the stats of a mage work rather well with the skill checks - you know intelligence/whisdom/charisma. For example some of the best parts of the game can be only explored with a high a enough intelligence/whisdom, like the story of your companions. That can be a problem sometimes. And like a few others already said, Torments Combat is really not that stellar. It is okeish I guess. Not so bad that it is unplayable. But it really isn't as sophisticated like the writing and dialog in the game, which is a bit sad.

The more I see words "Planescape Torment", the more I'm itching for Tides of Numenera. Man, fuck this thread.

Other than the combat it's one of the best RPGs ever made in my opinion. Setting and story are indescribably incredible.

Let me put it this way. I played Fallout 1 before I ever got onto the internet and it left such an impression on me (as a gamer who preferred RPGs) that when I first registered on forums I used "The Vault Dweller" as my always preferred username. Many years later I played Planescape: Torment and felt the same way.

Had I played PS:T before Fallout 1 I would have taken to naming myself The Nameless One.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
