post apocalyptic flicks?

hi look what i found, its pretty cool watching, like a movie with high detail effects.

what is about? about nuclear bombs :)

look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML7K8PQyTP0

enjoy, if you dont like the music, just put your .mp3s over it, i prefer heavy metal, but the aim of the author was to show that nuclear war is not good at all . what you feel when you see this?

i was like faszinacted how beautiful it looks

edit: what movie is this? it looks kinda hollywood to me

This is a really nice thread, I'm checking out a lot of movies that you guys suggested.

First one I managed to get a hold of was Threads. Wow, I didn't expect much from this production, but I was really impressed with it.
The editing is a bit wonky, some actors aren't completely believable, and it starts off rather slowly (but it pays off) but they really nail the scary atmosphere.

I also think they should've kept the 'story' within the first few years after the catastrophe.

But really great film. If you haven't seen it, I'd strongly suggest that you try and get a hold of it.
Thanks to you people who mentioned it!

Has any one seen City of the Lost Children?
It was a crazy french surreal film that reminds me of Fallout more then almost any other movie...Particular my characters with less then 3 int.

Also.
Clockwork Orange- the book hints alittle more towards the dark future, but the movie also covers it well.
Solient Green-Kinda...
Children of Men- coming soon with Clive Owen.. It is going to rock!

Ok,

The Ultimate Warrior, and no not the wrestler, it's a Yul Brynner flick. kinda cheesy but post apoc.

And I know it's not truely post apoc in genre, but Star Trek, don't shoot read on, in it's cannon, the world pretty much blew itself up, they just cleaned up after themselves is all.

Running Man is certainly apocalyptic. The decay of society and lack of value for human life is all right there.

It's pretty B-movie-ish though.

*shameless up*

i just got "A boy and his dog" and by god it rules!
the ending is just... brilliant. and the quotes... there are little quotes in the movie but man, they're marvelous.

(also, i gotta say anyone who hasnt seen the Omega Man yet, really should. it's a pretty fun movie.)

edit for typo

When I was really young my Dad and I watched "A Boy and His Dog" and I didnt understand it at all. Now being older i think I would understand it and with it being one of the best sci-fi movies of all time plus it being post-apocalyptic I have to get it.

I saw it at a local bookstore recently. (also has a large movie section with mostly unique specialty stuff) I believe the cover had an atomic detonation with a happy face. I got alot of money for Christmas...I hope its still there for sale.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

the most recent UK/EU DVD cover is a figure walking with his dog through a deserted wasteland.

Yea, it's very curious that no one seems to have mentioned a movie called "Fallout". I've seen it.. 4-5 years ago on the TV and don't really remember much, but it was about a bunch of guys taking refuge in a vault after a nuclear strike. The whole movie is in the vault. Hasn't anyone seen it ?

I have seen City Of Lost Children and loved every minute of it. Also I saw a copy of the movie 'Fallout' but never knew what it was about. Might have to take a look.

Did someone read the "the end" serie of the Punisher from marvel comics? It takes place after the bombs fell. Sound familiar huh?

The punisher escapes from prison and does what he does best: a killing frenzy into the vaults where the rich and high influence bigshots are hiding.

That sounds ace! :D When was that released?

Ummm let me think...
Some of these will be cheesy some will be classics.

Tank Girl
Steel Dawn
(Parts of) Terminator 1, 2, and 3
Ice Priates (really funny and a must see)
Battlefield Earth (cheesy and unplausable {not because of aliens but because of how far degraded human civiliztion was portrayed in the movie})
Waterworld (could only watch this one once)
The Postman (long but good)
The day after
Living dead and resident evil flicks
The Stand.... (Sucked)
Demolition man (yeah I know but it kinda has post apocalypse elements to it)
One movie I can't remember the name of it featured a bounty hunter on a motorcycle which sported a minigun he called, "Angel"... I'll look on imdb later. Ahh found the name Steel Frontier
Aeon Flux
Saw another one I can't remember the name of... An old man who sees his wife raped and killed.... He was like 4 when the nuclear war happened.
Screamers
Apex (the begining)

That's all I can think of for now

Johnny Mnemonic, even if more focused on sci-fi/cyberpunk than the post-apoc part.

i just saw The Quiet Earth ('85), which could be classified as a non-violent PA movie, i guess.

the concept is interesting enough to at least see it once: a man wakes up in an empty world... he broadcasts radiomessages, but he just cant find anyone.
