Postworld - Progress Update [17.07.11]

Hm, some 3D camera, but much smoother than Neverwinter Nights :clap: That's what i like. It was exactly type of engine, which i wanted for future Fallout games - simple, smooth and athmospheric 8-)

Video Textures

Hey Guys,

There is a small update on our blog.

We were so excited after we got our Unity Pro licence that we decided to do something to celebrate...and we did.
The Pro licence features open a lot of new possibilities and video texture playback is just one of them.
We also got some shadows in there but they are not set up properly yet.

Anyway, enjoy and we will be back soon with more.
 
Looks excellent, I really like the idea of a “normal life” inside the vault. The textures and lighting are coming along beautifully. How are you going to implement combat? Is that meant to be a hologram in the corner? :ok:

It's still early to talk about combat, but one thing I can say with certainty is that it's going to be turn based.

Kinda :)
I was just messing around with materials and transparent shaders and that 'thing' is the result. It's of course in no way a finished asset :wink:

As always there is a lot going on but unfortunately there's little that we could show off just yet. By next weekend there will be a descent update but for now this is all there is. This is still work in progress but your comments and criticism are welcome nonetheless.

Reminds me of Van Buren...in other words, the REAL Fallout 3...made by the fans. Wow, Bethesda really isn't too competant...

Anywho, keep this coming... Really hope that you'll get this thing finished. If I win the lottery tomorrow, I'll transfer you 200 grand for developing aid :D Not very likely, but...yeah, just not very likely. Still drooling!

Hi Guys,

I know it's been a while since our last update. We're working hard on the game though :)
It's not Postworld yet...but it is a game that will introduce our universe and slowly draw players in to the main story. There will be some roleplay and lots of shit to shoot.

Postworld is not dead but we had to put it on a back-burner for a while.

There is a new website in the works so hopefully in a week or two we will launch it. There isn't much content to show off just yet but we will be updating the site regularly.
In general things are going great. We've got 12 people in the team now, managed to get a bunch of cash from the bank to finance the development for the next 4 months or so. With any luck end of March we should have a decent enough build to show off.


That's about it for now. I'll be back in a few weeks with an update.

Great! I'm even more interested in the game now. I liked very much what you did with Postworld, let's see how you improved on that :)
 
I'm surprised I've never seen this before (probably a little back in the forum threads) :shock:

I've got to say, I love the choice of engine, and the artwork for this game so far! :D Everyone working on this is awesome for re-awakening my dream of van Buren, and taking it to the next level :clap:

I wish you guys luck in future development and funding :drunk:

The main goal for this first game is to get our feet wet in the role-playing aspect of things.
There will not be a lot of content in terms of exploration and the 'action' part is not what you would expect from a game of this genre. It's not a FSP though :)

What we ultimately want is for player's to become interested in the universe. We want players to be affected by what is happening in the virtual world around them. Right now this is our primary concern and a lot of effort is put into building an interesting backstory.

A lot of the inspiration for our world is drawn from scifi films like Blade Runner, Total Recall, Moon 44 and even a bit of Judge Dredd.
It's not so much the fiction in those films that we are after, rather the way future of this planet is portrayed.

Anyway, I don't want to give away the farm just yet :)


I'll check back here often in case anyone has questions.

Progress...I think

Hey Guys,

It's been a while since my last visit. I doubt any one here missed me though :D
We are still hard at work on this thing, well most of us anyway.

I was looking through some screens from our test builds and thought I would share a few of them with you.
These are not polished in any way or form, show an incomplete location with many textures missing, but at least they haven't been photoshopped :)

Mostly these show off image effects like vignetting, SSAO, bloom and so on. There are a few decent shadows here and there.
We also got decals to work too. Other than that there isn't much else.

This last one shows one of our NPCs. It's still very much 'work in progress' but you can see that the amount of detail is much higher than that of the generic dude NPC featured in every other screenshot :)

Progress is slow due to summer vacations, however we will try to post some more updates at the end of summer. Most likely a video or in the worst case some decent looking screens.
If you got questions, suggestion or just want to say how much this whole thing sucks please don't hold back.
