Project: BnW

Just caught myself being very stupid. ofcourse its not the actual letters thats glowing but neon light "lines" on top of them... It took some time to render this so I will have to fix that tomorrow. good night

edit:
about the angel: I think the angle sideways is right atleast, but not sure about the "upwards/downwards" angle.. comments appreciated..

Fixed:
Ok thats fixed. Is it dirty enough or should I add something? Like rust etc.. Notice the water damage on the bottom of the LAS VEGAS letters.

OK! So the third version:

My computer crashed big time today (the fan is running but the brain is dead) so I wont be able to render any more pics for you.. atleast not in a nearby future :(
Well, I guess thats that. It was fun atleast

Im usually at work or school when I am on the internet, and both of those places have a web blocker that blocks NMA, so I am going to do most of the updates here:

http://xavierblazer.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=pbw

EDIT: while im here, I might as well list the things I have planned(but im keeping in mind that planning is only half the process)

AREAS:
Dead mans Dungeon:
For bad asses only. You pay 100 coins and you are thrown into a hole which leads to an underground dungeon full of rad-scorpions, deathclaws, and other assorted critters. All of your inventory is placed in a box in the shop this is in, and you are given 5 stimpacks, 1 super stimpack, 2 psychos and a combat knife. If you make it out alive, you win 10000 coins and the weapon of your choice from the weapon shop, which comes with all the ammo you want.

Fallout Shelter:
This is the area that the town originated from. Its not associated with the enclave vaults. Not many people talk about it, and when you ask them they just change the subject. What is the big deal about it? Maybe its the towns dirty little secret, maybe its a super casino for the residence only. You only option is to check it out for yourself.

Film Studio:
Finaly, work that you are familiar with. Star in a movie if you pass a difficult quest, and get paid 3500 caps. 5000 if you have recruited the suspected murderer.

Memory of Salvatore's Bar:
After his employer was killed, Mason left New Reno. After some time he came across Las Vegas and started this bar.

Casino:
A fairly large casino owned by a former bartender from New Reno.

School:
This 3 leveled map is a school run by Mrs. Wright. Raise your Intelligence here.

PEOPLE:
Rolvero Lynski:
The mayor of Las Vegas.

Mason:
Owner of the Memory of Salvatore Bar

Corsican Brothers:
Owners of the film studio.

Tony Stewart:
This former boxer from New Reno is the only man who survived dead mans dungeon.

Reggie Bishop.
This man arrived to town a little bit before you did. He is the little Bishop that the Chosen One made in Fallout 2, and will probably be recruited as an NPC.

ADVANCED FEATURES:
Shopping center:
Many shelves of items are placed in here, and you choose what you want. Then you pay at the front desk at a fixed price. If you try to walk out with unpaid items you are warned and if you try it a second time, you have a choice of going to jail, or fighting back(of cource, I will try to impliment a stealing option for thieves)

Firing range:
You pay the gun shop owner some coins(the ammount depends on the gun you want to play with) and you are placed in a narrow hallway with three dummies at the end with the weapon of your choice in your hands. Blocking objects are placed on the hexes around you and the firing dummies(which will probably be golden geckos) The fun ends when you run out of ammo or the dummies are dead.

I think it would be fun to play for awhile in black and white/ get your eyes used to it. Then get sucked into the future. No matter what you come up with. It sounds like fun and I wish you luck.

If i had any sort of knowledge about moding F2 I would probably jump in and help. Sorry I don't. So I'll just be supportive.

Wow that looks great! This was modeled? With what tools? Man, I need to learn how to use modeling tools.

No sarcasm ... I tried using a modeling tool and was completely lost. Without modeling you're limited to what you can find or draw (pictures). I think the sign looks good. Now I wonder, how a critter can be modeled and exported into single frames in 6 directions ....

I think that unless some supergenious comes along and makes an amazing modeler\animator with templates, we non nodelers are stuck with editing pixels or ripping from other games

PS: I had problems getting the FRMs to appear at the end of the list, so I replaced unused shelve art with them. Will that conflict with other things?

Ive made a final draft of the first area of town:

town1.gif

The grey areas are fenced off areas, the black areas are buildings, the red and green thingeys are exit grids, the yellow triangles are doors, and the red liney thingey is a locked gate. The north exit grid leads to the residential area, the west exit grid leads to the commercial row, and the east one leads to the mayors mansion.

EDIT: I already see a potential flaw, I should move the door to the firing range to the right. They dont want to have a man open the door and get shot.

NEW INFO:

AREAS:
Hospital:
The healing place of Las Vegas.

Mar-Mart:
That supermarket I was talking aboout

Mar-vel comics: A Book store

Bank of To-Mar-row: Similar to the FLC from Fallout 1 but more useful

PEOPLE:
Miss Judith:
The Wrights lost their power in New Reno when Big Jesus died and Little Jesus took over the Mordinos. Little Jesus made a large distillery in the basement of the Desperado and in the first month tripled what the Wrights made in a year. When her husband was accidentally shot by one of the little children, Mrs. Wright lost all hope and left Keith in charge of the family. She legally assumed her maiden name and lived with Tully for a year. When he died of alcohol poisoning, she was devestated and wandered into the wastes. She was found by traveling merchants who took her to Las Vegas. Seeing that this town is less corrupt than Reno, she settled down here, marrying yet another jerk(Jacob Marley). She founded the school in Vegas from an old steel mill.

Tony stewart is no more. The new servivor of Dead mans Dungeon is Mike "The Masticator", who encountered the mentat making man from broken hills and had experiments done to him, which raised his intelligence(I cant wait to write the dialogue for this guy.)

Jacob Marley:
The morally corrupt owner of Mar-Mart, Mar-vel comics and Bank of To-Mar-row

Probably not, but you can definitely add new scenery FRMs. You need to:

1 ) Copy art\scenery\scenery.lst (from master.dat) to your patch directory
2 ) Add your new FRM file names to art\scenery\scenery.lst
3 ) Copy proto\scenery\scenery.lst (from master.dat) to your patch directory
4 ) Copy text\english\game\pro_scenery.msg (master.dat) to your patch directory
5 ) Start the mapper and click on the scenery bar
6 ) Press "End" key to move to the blank space at the end
7 ) Click on the blank space and select "Edit" to go into proto editor
8 ) Click "End" again, this will move to the last FRM in the scenery.lst which should be your new one
9 ) Pick all your other proto options and add description etc

BTW shelves are ITEMS (containers) not scenery, are you sure you added it at the right place? Since the sign is not usable it is scenery. You can set the light distance to 8 hexes, and the light intensity to 100%, and the sign will be lit up in the dark.

Wow, feels like I have been gone for too long... Well I have setup an old 300 mhz win98-thingie in my room now so I might be able to follow the forums alittle easier, if it lets me :?

Well I have actually modelled some "organic" things including humans and spiders(etc). The only thing thats limiting the process is the 2d reference material used to build the model (if one has a very specific idea about how it should look). Another tricky part is the animation process, but being blessed with the fallout engine it gets much easier since you can modify each frame to fit your very own needs, like blood splatter etc. Wish I had access to my hard drives so I could show something off, might be able to do that later. Alittle off the topic but in everyones interest: Whats new on the market in computers? What should I look into? might be able to put togheter some fallout-like models (humans etc) that can be used for various things. Like new clothing, guns and such.

Added:
A great (free AND open source) program for modelling/rendering 3d: Blender

Sorry guys, I had finals last week at school and could not work on the mod at all. Heres a screenshot of the entrance of the town. Its loosely based on the tribal village from FO:T where you had to get the fusion batteries(you know, the way it is below wasteland level)

http://www.xavierblazer.com/scr00004.jpg

I need help mapping. Anyone want to help?

I just had a nifty idea on how to utilize unused quest items and make a new weapon. A series of task quest thingey like from the Legened of Zelda series. Where you do something for one person, they give you an item or info that is useless to you but you need to give to another person and so on until you get to the last person who gives you a new weapon.

I have pretty much abandoned the "Black and White" story of the mod. I am thinking of just a mod that replaces Artemple.map and you get to other towns with different vehicles or whatever. this way I dont have to deal with stuff with the worldmap and hex editing the fallout2.exe file.

I tried posting on your forums and I couldnt figure out how... either im blind or you dont have the 'make a post' command :)

I am not a web desinger but phpnuke has a nice forum settings... we use it at my firearms halflife clan and its nice (well not my own clan but im in it)

Nice mapping... Which map making program do you use? I am going to start playing around with maps after my mod is finished... just need to know what program is best

I use the official mapper, but im not sure if it is the best. Its just the one Im more acustomed to.

And about the forum, it turns out I accidentally set the BnW board to only staff can only make threads. Should be fixed now.

And about the town, to anyone who cares, Im giving it the clenliness of Vault city, the basic structure of NCR, and the fun of new Reno and The Hub

Okee dokee, got more screenshots for everyone:)

http://www.xavierblazer.com/entrance.jpg

the entrance to the town. The gate to the left is for caravans. the door to the right leads to an in ground shop thats not completed yet.

http://www.xavierblazer.com/masticator.jpg

The house of Mike. Not much more to say. The number is his address and the cooler is his mailbox.

http://www.xavierblazer.com/mayor.jpg

The start of the mayors house. It is built on the cliff.

http://www.xavierblazer.com/weapshop.jpg

The weapon shop and firing range

And last but not least:

http://www.xavierblazer.com/monty.jpg

Yet another Holy Grail reference!

Also, I plan on making a house you can get and customize. You could buy it or do a quest for it. You can buy shelves and beds and stuff for it. You will get your own address and mailbox, and recieve mail.

EDIT: Heres what another area will be like:
http://www.lasvegasmaps.com/downtown_map.gif

Woa... nice work! That seems like its going to take alot of work to get all of that mod finished, im just making a weapons mod and its taking me a hell of long time!

You should make lots of funny easter eggs (like the holy grail reference), and characters in the mod... Its gotta be funny :)
