Project Van Buren

Oh and for VO just hold auditions for random characters, see if the volunteer has the range to do multiple characters. And try to accept quality over quantity. I'd recommend only having certain "talking heads" voice acted at that point.

I agree that you should avoid reusing assets like the plague. I had a few acquaintances ask if you needed help but whether or not they were sincere is unknown.

Do you need writers, artists or animators?

Like I said, yes, 3D artist would help me greatly. I already have a list of art I need, with concept drawings or images of course.

Wow, I really need to check NMA more often, looks great. From what I've been shown and seen Van Buren was going to have a different Main Menu with a solid background image of the Sanitation suits at Boulder City, unlike the 3D one shown in the Tech Demo with The Prisoner and Captain Armstrong. What Main Menu style do you plan on using?

I already have a vision, in fact I have even started placing some distant view assets into what might be a main menu scene. I imagine combined distant view of Boulder Dome cupola on top of the mountains on a left side of the screen, and distant view of Denver in the center/to the right. And some other closer details, but this is the general concept so far. Only things I actually miss for this are nice scyscrappers with appropriate art style. I have found literally perfect ones, but I cant spend 70 dollars now. https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/exterior/cityscape/buildings-and-skyscrapers-in-ruins

BTW, we can discuss things on your discord channel, I am already there :D

I have finished programming of basic combat a weapon system, so I turned back to some level-design work. This is road to Petrifield, Arizona. This location served well as a test map for visual and art style shaping. I hope the desert now looks much more realistic.

looks great. i would change the no gasoline sign. also, i'm not sure why but the bushes on the right side look a bit wrong, maybe it's just too many of them

What is wrong with sign? Since 2050, the U. S. has been experiencing resource shortage. Americans don't usually use word "gasoline" regarding fuel, but this is kind of referencing to The Road Warrior movie, where there is a strong Aussie pronouncing of the word as "guzzoline".

Bushes to the right may look a bit off because of their darkness, which is caused by their position being right against the sun so you see their shadowed side. I'll put down ambient occlusion on them, thanks for a feedback.

i meant it looks too clean and the font is kinda out of place. also, i'd imagine they would use brighter or more contrastive colors for it. as for the bushes, i think you're right, the ones on the left are brighter and look good

Later on do you plan to have talking heads like the first two games?

Also is there a place to look at the concept art for the 3D assets you need? people may be willing to contribute to this project.

There are plans for voice acting of the NPCs, but of course, that depends on possibilities. I am focusing on different matters right now.

About 3D assets, I haven't set up a concrete list of items I need yet, as I havent had any 3D artist on sight so far, but I am in desperate need of 3D art, mainly props items and some architectural assets. I can provide a concept references if anybody is interested in contributing.

Once the greatest natural wonder of the Four State Commonwealth, Grand Canyon lost its national park status in 2057 due to massive uranium deposits hidden underneath its monumental mountain ranges. Almost 200 years later, it became one of the most feared areas in the Wasteland.

Hey, not too bad. Don't put yourself down so much, you've got some serious skill, light years above average.
Well thank you, many people keep telling me that. The only thing I believe I trully get is the original Fallout artstyle. But, you know, knowing that I still lack a true artistic skill... That keeps me going further. It's not about putting myself down, it's about getting better each time.
Most of the things you see in this thread is actually my progress through learning new things. One year back, I wouldn't be able to put any shit together in Unity Engine. And now, it actually looks and feels like an actual game after all, in trully pre-pre-alpha state game, but game nonetheless.

Looking really good mate. Keep up the good work. I’ve been watching Retcon Raiders Van Buren design documents and have been learning alot about the characters, lore, etc. If you need a writer let me know, I’ve always been fascinated with the lore behind Van Buren.
