Do you agree with Razorfist on this game?

I personally agree with all of the points he makes in this video and would consider it the best review of Fallout New Vegas.

I fucking love how New Vegas apparently weeds out the scrubs who can't handle high powered enemies in the early game. As soon he started to moan about no level scaling, i burst out laughing.

Good to know he has come around to the game and considers it one of the best in the series though according to the comments.

"I accidentally walked in to a Deathclaw nest and am pissed that I can't kill them all instantly"

Welll what did you expect, the Deathclaws to play fair on you. Yeah sure, Wasteland Monsters are going to be nice and gentle and not cause too much of a challenge, because they're considerate to the fact that you're not prepared to fight them.

I predicted that it would make posts to bash NV though not how fast it would be banned.

I wanna go on record to say that I despise level scaling. I rather have high level areas that I can still try to overcome with irrational stupidity than have a world that levels up with me. That was the worst part of my short run at Oblivion.

i don't think anybody should be able to handle high power enemies in the early game. but no level scaling means that high level characters can slice through enemies like a knife through butter. making the game less challenging since you know your going to level the more you continue on.

Then again it does encourage you to try at the very least to take on harder enemies at lower levels before you reach the point of killing everything in one shot.

It can be quite fun when to just roflstomp every enemy in sight at the highest possible level. but i feel level scaling makes fights more engaging and fun in its own way. Since enemies too will still provide a later game challenge. requiring you to have to still think about survival. which i think makes sense for a post apocalyptic game.

though it may seem unrealistic and unimmersive at times. since enemies just magically get better. Rather then designing certain enemies to be low-level targets and high-level targets. powder gangers vs deathclaws for instance.

i think no level scaling pairs well with MMORPGs because well you have most likely friends with you and level scaling pairs well with single-player RPGs. Though you do have the options of companions in single-player games so maybe it's not as bad with no level scaling in a single player game. I remember bringing ED-E and a NCR Ranger from the NCR Emergency radio and i my trusty cowboy repeater (as i'm usually lucky enough one will spawn on an enemy at the nevada highway patrol station or inside the bison steve hotel/casino) at level 8 or so to take out the cazadores towards the hills north of goodsprings. and we succeeded. and i remember getting through scorpion's gultch as well with Ed-E. Still haven't figured out a way to get through the deathclaws though without using an exploit to jump on a rock onto a mountain then crouch walk my way over to Repconn HQ like i did when i was a kid. lol. deathclaws have 10 perception so a stealthboy and crouching doesn't really work but they can't reach me where i'm at so i was safe lol.

of course back to the killing of insects I had the entomologist perk so maybe that helped a little with killing cazadores and radscorpions.

Enemies scaling to you don't actually give you any added challenge and also gives you no sense of progression. Because enemies always scale to you, that means you will always be able to deal with them, they don't have added damage or extra health because of extra levels. It makes no sense for a goblin and an ogre to be as strong as each other in the lategame.

The entire point of no level scaling is to give the player temporary goals and also allow challenge runs. You can't do either with level scaling since with the former you will always be overcome anything that comes your way, not needing to go an area with weaker enemies to level up and get stronger, and since there's no enemies higher leveled than you there's no added challenge of facing higher leveled enemies to get the better items in the game as soon as possible.

Level scaling is a terrible mechanic that does nothing but hinder.

Some enemies actually scales with player. For example, everybody play Honest Hearts at level 10, because hahaha Graham armor, but i played at level 50 once. And boy, my ass eat AMRs like crazy.

I'm gonna be honest, I think this guy sucks at making reviews.
Every time I try to watch his Fallout 4 review, I close it down about 6 or 7 minutes in.
There's so much wrong with the game but he decided to spend half the video going 'why isn't there any heavy metal in this game?'
Like I get it, that should be a point, but not the main meat of your video.
His style is very much the kind of thing I used to watch from ranting YouTubers back in like 2011. But now I either want a full review of a Game, or something fun like AVGN. I don't want something where the guy in the video is talking like a douchebag.

He comes across as one of those kinds of guys who is like your friend's friends and you don't really like him and eventually, he'll fall out with your friends because he is just a douche.

The fact that he thinks Obsidian was lazy, when in fact they had a short development time then Fallout 3 with a engine that was already broken and fragil, besides just one person on the team having experience with that engine (in another game) says much on the level of research this guy make, almost zero...

Also, what is the problem with some enemies kicking your ass in the beggining? Especially the Deathclaws, you know, one of the strongest creature in the Fallout universe? And its not like Radscorpions in the original game could not kill you with ease if you were not prepared in the beggining. Also, without the deathclaws, you could be in the Strip with no problem, and that would be fucking boring in my opinion.

And last. Notice how he didnt even talk about the writing, just focused on the gameplay... It really sounds like he was there just gundown every single creature with some cool ass gun and take loot in some boring locations that was no value to the world itself... You know, just like a Fallout 3 fanboy.

Now dont get me wrong, I know Fallout New Vegas isnt perfect by any means (even if it is my favorite game of all time), and there is some things that I agree with in this review (the fact that the Strip is kinda empty is a little dissapointing), hell, I even had to mod the damn thing, which proves that NV is not a godsend at all. But in the end of the day still a project which the developers CARED about, even with the limited resources and time and some erros in the production, and even with all those damn crashes and performance issues, they send us a game with some fantastic writing and characters (one of the best I ever seem, only behind Planescape: Torment for me) and interesting world with some really good quests and in the end of day, a really good time.
And for me, he fails to see its qualities, or obscures them (which makes it worse), and try to make New Vegas as some overrated mess, when in fact it has good reasons to be considered the best in the series, along with 1 and 2.

Also, the gun play is actually good in this game. Not perfect, but good enough for me to have fun it.

Yeah I'm not big on it either. I'm glad that of the things left behind on Youtube's trends that this is one of them. This video is from that era though. But he still talks like this in his more recent videos or at least the ones I've been sent. I guess the style worked for him back then so he has stuck with it. I just can't find it captivating.

Less than 10 minutes to review a game that can last upwards of 100 hours is too little time to discuss anything in depth. Sure, five hours reviews are ridiculous, but 30 minutes or so is more than enough to talk about something in depth while not going overboard in time.

I prefer the non-magazine reviews on Youtube to be about 15-30 minutes on anything. Otherwise, you're probably not really saying much.

The magazine backed people are just make them short so more people watch them and pushing it to 10 minutes to garner the ad revenue. I just don't care about theirs.

Eh Razorfist is a contrarian who doesn't even play the games he reviews. A few years ago people found his Xbox Live profile and he had barely any time in the games he reviewed. His profile was privated shortly after

These days it's pretty easy with the ubiquity of information to 'co-opt' the opinions of randos on forums and unpopular videos to look for juicy bits you can put in your video essay. Hell Hbomberguy's Fallout 3 is Awful and Here's Why video was a pastiche of angry forum posts from the old Something Awful New Vegas thread. Only reason nobody talks about it is if you don't have the 'archives upgrade' for that trash site you'd never be able to find the evidence.

yeah i notice alot of youtubers just parrot the popular opinion.

it's one of my main issues with chris davis. his whole crpg seires is just him parroting what people have already said about those games and the most he adds is how you should not even play fallout 1 , and 2 as they have not aged well.

Stalker is an overly melodramatic pos and Fallout will forever be superior to every other similar franchise. We are in the best timeline for postapoc stories.

his excuse is " i'm not nostalgic towards old games." so he feels he can be more dismissive of them compared to newer ones.
