    Hit there!

After a long long time I got my self a machine that can can run newer games. Any suggestions witch to try?

I have MSI GT 683 DXR with i7-2670qm and GTX 570M. I got it some time ago and so far I have bought and played:

DOW2 + Chaos rising (Dow 2 was good at first but the same maps over and over again + the grinding at the end made it a bit boring. I did like DOW back in it´s time alot)
Starcraft 2 (I have been a Starcaft fan since the original one so will see this through)
Deus Ex: human revolution (I liked this one for the new sneaking aspect, but after some time I ended up gunning down the bad guys)
Duke nukem forever (This was a big dissapointment...did not finish it. Duke 3D was awesome in it´s time)

Mainly I am looking for games that have a good single player content. Online gaming is fun too, but due to RL stuff I am unable to spend hours after hours perfecting my build orders in strategy games and honing my reflexes in FPS games. Also hours long gaming sessions are quite rare for me.

    So what to pick next?
Fallout 3 + addons? I know it got a bashing from F2 fans, but if you forget the legacy is it a good game in it self?
Skyrim? Lots of stuff to explore I hear.
    Masseffect 3?
Syndicate? I really liked to original one, but this one was converted to FPS. How was it story/sp content wise?
WH 40K Space Marine? I am a fan of WH 40K universe, but is this any good?

Any good x-com remakes out there or similar?

    Thanks for your help! :D

    Space Marine is awesome.
Some claim Fallout 3 is a good game on its own, but I beg to differ. It's nothing. I'd recommend New Vegas instead, if you haven't played it. It's an actual game.
Skyrim is quite acceptable actually, as a hiking simulator.
/edit: Hard Reset is nice shooter, too.

Space Marine is worth every second for a 40k fan, even if just once (not really replayable, unless you wait a few years to play it again).

I'm playing Skyrim right now and am surprised with the fun I'm having. It's no Fallout or Assassin's Creed, but I recommend it.

You should play Magicka, if you haven't yet: it is awesomesauceness incarnate.

Diablo 3 will be amazing when it comes out. Civilization 5 is good too. Try Fallout New Vegas with mods also.

WIth your system, I'd say go ahead and play Battlefield 3... But if you don't feel like playing FPS, I dunno what to recommend. I don't see much games worth mentioning outside first person shooters, simply because they're graphically nice.

Play all the Assassin's Creed games, too. AC3 is coming soon.

Syndicate FPS is a 6 hour long console/ popamole FPS that will blind you with its lens flare, bloom and other next-gen graphical crap. It has a very narrow FOV and installation of Origin is mandatory so it will also give you headaches and perhaps nausea :) oh and the story is cringeworthy, just watch 15 minutes of a let's play...

If you are looking for hardware intensive games (that are also fun to play) I would recommend:

Hard Reset: decent challenging FPS with awesome cyberpunk setting, original weapons and somewhat oldschool gameplay.

The Witcher 2: amazingly good looking RPG

Metro 2033: very atmospheric post apocalyptic FPS set in Russian underground.

Stalker COP with the complete mod:

Alice Madness Returns: fun platformer with pretty solid combat mechanics, surreal surroundings and creatures.

The above are all Dx11 except HR which uses Dx9 afaik.

Xenonauts should get released this year:

Preety much agree with PainlessDocM on the selections.

A few others newish games I would give a try would be.

Just Cause 2 (Preety much "Screw physics the Game" and still get alot of enjoyment out of it without mods, though they would also make the game more fun.)

The Binding of Isacc (A nice game if your into a retro feel of Legend of Zelda with a nice, twisted sense of humor. I would say that if your not that great of a player in general, you will probley struggle with this game.)

Sequence. (Game is basiclly DDR meets RPG. Surprisingly it works and turns out to be preety good.)

Batman: Arkham City (If you liked Batman: Arkham Asylum or just generally like batman. You will most likely enjoy this.)

Sure Sequence & The Binding of Isacc isn't hardware intense as Batman: AC or JC2. But still good games none the less aswell as being cheap.

Not all games need to be hardware intence. I started gaming in the 90´s ;) remember Master of Orion (the original one) glued me to the chair for hours back then. And Commander Keen, x-com, original c&c...oh those were the days.

I just have been out of the gaming world for so long now and since I like Fallout 1&2 alot I thought to ask here since you guys might have same kind of taste as me.
But keep those hints coming, maybe this will help someone else too:)

    Thanks again!

Witcher 2 is a great purchase. You can't go wrong with this RPG. The visuals are also wonderful, even if I myself find the art direction slightly bland. Still, recommend it without hesitation.

Any 40K buff owes him/herself to play Space Marine. Crushing xenos and heretics under you mighty boot has never been so fun. It also looks pretty good for a console port, Relic went out of their way, the textures especially look really good. I also recommend Chaos Rising and Retribution, DOW2's expansions. More large-scale, and much less grinding in the end-game. Plus the graphics easily hold up to this day.

Mass Effect 3 is easily my GOTY thus far, and only Diablo III could possibly topple it this year, despite a rather large problem discussed in its thread on this very forum. You probably must play the first two games to really enjoy it, however. And it's not a leader inthe graphics department, albeit it still looks nice.

If you like strategy, I say try Shogun 2: Total War. Extremely impressive large-scale battles served by solid gameplay. A stand-alone named Fall of the Samurai is slated for release March 23, and looks fairly awesome too at this point.

In that case check out Quake Live if you haven't already, it's inferior to Q3 IMO (slower, no gore, no custom levels, no mods,...)but it's very active, more addictive than Jet and free.

Also play DoomRL an awesome gratis roguelike:

Is Shogun II anywhere near historically accurate? Unlike, say, Rome?

Hah probably a ridiculous suggestion but give The Precursors a try if you can find it.

Its sort of Elite meets a FPS with driving sections.
Plenty of flaws but it also has some good qualities as well.

If you like "weaboo" games, both Ys Origin and Xanadu NEXT from Nihon Falcom got fan translation patches a few months ago, and both are excellent games.

Serious Sam 3 should hone your reflexes while keeping you entertained in the venues of oldschool FPS'es, not so much the newer tacticool approach though.

Saints Row 3 is also a ton of fun, what GTA should have been in my opinion.

If you want Chess with Guns there still is no alternative to Jagged Alliance 2, give the 1.13 mod a spin if you're already a seasoned veteran.
