Red-Tec Resources

Hello again NMA, new plans, good news.

I have built a HQ website to host permanent downloads, no more bad links, and lots more to offer. It is still in it's early stages and areas are still under construction, but I thought I should open early.

Downloads are available for my previous work and a couple of extras. Darin's old sprites (found here on NMA) and To_an's sprites and tiles. More to come and the site will be updated often.

I will also post here to preview new mods in future.

Here is a spoiler for the new tile pack I've almost finished;

I hope the HQ helps the Fallout Tactics community and can't wait to offer my new resource packs.

Things are about to get interesting!

Join the RED-TEC community here: http://www.nma-fallout.com/group.php?groupid=4
In group discussions you will find a link for the website.

See you at the HQ.

Red.

Wow these tiles are amazing. The plant life really looks impressive... I'm wondering though, if you have a tropical style palm tree in the tile pack. I was planning to make an official request for some tropical Island type vegetation tiles (so here it is!).

At any rate these forest tiles look incredible and I definitely appreciate this fine work for our community.

Thanks dude, yeah I'm pretty happy with how it looks so far. Since no 3D models were used so far, it has been quite difficult to get the look right.
For now this will be based around a pine forest style. Tropical sets will be on the cards, but that could be a while off.

Just adding my two cents: What do you think of fallen logs, stumps, and the like, acting as cover? Same situation as sandbags, waist-high hard cover.

Very impressive work Red and thank you so much for making these assets available to the community. I will definitely be using these. @ FUBAR, would that not require the assets to be 3D? I am guessing these assets are all 2D so you can't actually crouch behind a log or take cover behind a tree; 2D does include pathfinding though. Am I right Red?

I can't say for certain, haven't spent as much time mapping as other things, but can one not add an obstacle where the image is, if not set the tile with such properties to begin with..?

One one the reasons why this pack is not finished yet, I want to add a couple more things to it.

No no, you misunderstand. Whether the tile started off as an image or a 3D model, the outcome is the same. When you create a tile you also create a bounding box so that it acts as a 3D object in-game. These are fully functional tiles.

Exactly.
This is the way all tiles are created. Fallout's original way of making sprites and tiles was through snapshots of 3D images, that is what I meant earlier as this seems to be the favored way of creating sprites and tiles. I will be combining images, photos, and 3D models so it makes things tricky to have a similar look to existing tiles, but can be done. No matter what they all end up as a 2D image anyway, then you just create the collision area.

Alrighty then...

Could continue with this pack but I think I'll leave it for now. Here is a rough demonstration of tiles;

Tiles available for download at RED-TEC HQ.

:jawdrop: Awesome! i am happy i got on today, good work Red! i will download them soon, i will also PM you soon when i have time.

I'm fighting the urge to drop everything I was doing and start playing with these tiles. Thank you, once again, Red!

Indeed, thanks Red, really appreciate what you are doing for the FOT modding community. And thanks for the explanation on tile creation.

I have been thinking of someday doing proper tutorials on tile and sprite creation. Based on my knowledge of image work.
I'm no master at it, but over the years my use of image based tiles and sprites has evolved a little. Next I move on to 3D modeling and traditional ways of creating Tactics graphics, something I have known about for a long time but never had the opportunity to try. My new PC changes things, including the way I'm about to mod but I realize now. I am in deep waters as this is very new territory for me, might need a little help...

Ok I love the underground nature of my work and the element of surprise but I may as well mention what it is I am doing at the moment.
For the meantime I am creating a very detailed animated sprite, not sure how long this will take me as I keep extending the amount of work I do on it. LOL!
The next few projects after that are more simple for me to complete. I will turn my attention to more weapons like the advanced weaponry I promised a while back, but with an added twist. Then it's more than likely I will create lots more tiles based on the 3D modelling experience I have gained as opposed to image work. Should be a good comparison.
All in all RED-TEC is gearing up for new forms of resources never before seen (yada yada) to be available soon. Until then, happy modding dudes and dudettes.

Hmm, very detailed sprite...sounds very exciting! I know just what an incredible amount of work a single fully animated sprite is... which is why these are so rare. Keep us posted on the progress and thanks as always.

Not really the type of guy to give announcements, or previews of things to come. I just think when it is ready I'll throw it out there.
You have to remember, most of my mods are for my own project and a lot of that will not interest Fallout fans. Also, a lot of it will as Fallout, Mad-Max, and other inspirations do force the occasional post-apocalyptic style mods out of me.
Just gotta finish up now, but this sort of thing takes time...

Yeah I agree. Good that I started off on image based work though, it gives me a lot more artistic experience that others don't and can be a good fallback plan. So glad I got my head around 3D models though. Whole new ballgame now.

Just acquiring the skills to create extra resource for my major project. When it's good enough for 'Omega', I release them to NMA. I wont go into any details, I have said too much already.
I do appreciate the interest from you guys, gives me another reason to get this stuff done.

Here you go Robert, your weapon sprites are done.

I hope you don't mind but I took it upon myself to slightly change the angles of some of the images, to maximize sprite sizes where needed. Also there are a few other things you should know; The RPG image was already in BMP format with an added alpha channel, but it was really shabby. Whoever cut the image out could have done a lot better, I've tried my best to doctor the image so that the picture and alpha have smoother edging. Though I nearly scrapped the entire image to find a better one, I thought it would be best to keep the sprites as original to your choices as possible. I also ran into a few other problems when creating ground images for both missile launchers, I ended up improvising as not too many appropriate images could be found especially for the Matador, that would suit ground angles. Regardless of the minor problems I am happy with the outcome of these weapons, the AK, MP5, and the M4 are very good finds and make for authentic looking weapon sprites. Anyway, here they are...

Hello! Can You or some 1 else put a new link for those awesome sprites?

P.S. How is work on your major project going?
