Rome: Total War

Yeah, it's not like I'm part of a medieval/rennaissance recreationist group or anything.

I'll try the demo then.

Dude, ROME TOTAL WAR IS SET 1500 YEARS BEFORE THE RENNAISSANCE. My 3 year old sister knows that. That's like saying I'm just an Anglo attempting to get another half dozen Celtic harem slaves in the new colonies in Wessex. Not that I would'nt want to be that guy.

My group recreates time 600 a.d. - 1600 a.d. in the rules, but many people fudge it a little bit, and have personas earlier than that.

I don't thik you're getting it. Rome: Total War is set from 300 BC to 14 AD. Saying that this era has anything more in common then we do with the Victorian is weird, and calling it medieval combat is just.....well....weird, even more so.

600-1600 is Christian.......

:?

Fine. We fight with swords and spears usually. More clear?

/added; Just finished with the demo, and it gets my endorsement. :ok:

It would probably be the greatest game ever if they had allowed the player to control the naval battles as well, but it's still great nontheless :D

I just bought it and have started a bit on the Imperial campaign. Is it possible to somehow control one of the other factions, or is the player restricted to controlling a roman house?

Whatever factions you defeat you can then play as in your next game. Annoying? Yes, but I dont think anyone who owns this game will mind having to take over the world.

or just mod the text files to do anything you want...I think I'll make my own faction after this campaign.

I am in the process of downloading R:TW! :D

I am also in the process of downloading Full Spectrum Warrior, Far Cry and Sims 2, my copy of SW: Galaxies should be in any day now, and I also got my filthy hands on Visual Studio .NET, IBM Informix SQL and MATLAB 6.0, so I doubt I will have a lot of time remaining for other non-essential activities. Such as showering.

Meanwhile, a single copy of Rome Total War sits on the shelf at work, waiting for me to murder someone with $40 in their pocket.

That's why God invented Mods. I am as large as the first Persian empire as Armenia.

How long does that take over telegraph? :P

:o

I hate you all.
You know the weirdest thing is that they don't have any Balto-Slavic peoples. The closest they come to is the awful generziation 'Sythian'. The game historically in that regard has more in common with 1st Century history of the era then Modern.

Oh, and I rule, Armenian Archer Cataphracts are the coolest unit in any game evar

I believe it. Armenian weddings are the best weddings ever too.
Never been to one. What is it like?

They also have the best temples in the game, the Temple of Vahghan, the syncretic Armenian God that was equal parts Zeus, Ahura Mazda and the God of the Torah. Grants HUGE moral bonus as well as helps public order. Pretty cool, I love Armenia.

Armenian weddings are just alot of fun. Dancing, Music, Drinking and good food. Not unlike most weddings I suppose, but I've never been bored at an Armenian wedding.

Armenian history is quite sad, hopeful your virtual efforts CCR will allow the country to preserve itself in your alternate but wonderful timeline.

Damn, must buy R:TW

Yes, you must.

I've played Armenia in every game where it's possible to play as Armenia (save Tom Clancy's Superpowers, which sucked). In Victoria I managed to make Armenia the most powerful nation in history. In EU2 Armenia became as big as modern Turkey and twice as powerful.

It's pretty close to Judaism in terms of total amount of sadness. It's relly pretty amazing, the shit the Armenian people have gone through.

You're Russian/German-American, right Commisar? Ever been south of Rostov?

Yes, alot. I used to have family spread out all over there including a great aunt in South Ossetia. In fact some of my fondest memories are of dangerous trips with my brothers to go see her during holidays. At the time I just thought it was fun, in retrospect, my brothers were idiots trying to kill off the entire family line. Although now most family lives here in the States or are dead. I still have a few freinds there though.
