Rosh on Fallout 3

On thing is for sure, I think: Fallout 3 will definitely kill the franchise, and so will Fallout 4 if they ever attempt to create it (Bethesda, of course, because they bought the rights to it too). And by killing the franchise as we knew it by the time of FO2 or FOT, it will kill NMA too, unless it dares to change the canon and cover other games, and thus stop being a "simple" fansite and start being a theme-based gaming site, which would be that bad... But if NMA doesn't dare to change, I can't see a very bright future for it... :(

No, Fallout 3 WILL kill the franchise...

:EDIT: I'm now listening to Dream Theater's Change of Seasons (chapter V - Another World), and I fear the lyrics will precisely fit NMA's fate:

So far or so it seems
All is lost with nothing fulfilled
Off the pages and a T.V. screen
Another world where nothing's true
Tripping through the life fantastic
Lose a step and never get up
Left alone with a cold blank stare
I feel like giving up
I was blinded by a paradise
Utopia high in the sky
A dream that only drowned me
Deep in sorrow, wondering why
Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what, don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Then string him up for all the world to see
I'm sick of all you hypocrites
holding me at bay
And I don't need your sympathy
to get me through the day
Seasons change and so can I
Hold on Boy, No time to cry
Untie these strings, I'm climbing down
I won't let them push me away
Oh come let us adore him
Abuse and then ignore him
No matter what, don't let him be
Let's feed upon his misery
Now it's time for them to deal with me

Bullshit. Changing would mean death of NMA in spirit at the very least. Not changing will mean continued life...in the same way.

But what when the fallout franchise is completely different? Or what when it's dead? I mean, are there any Ultima communities from the time of Ultima VII for instances?

Ehm, yes. Most Ultima communities either focus on UO or on Ultima 7.

FOBOS and FO:T happened, and we're still alive, aren't we?

Well, you have a point there... But I said this because I think Fallout 3 is different from those games, because of the name...

My point: if the spirit of the franchise is doomed, no one will ever expect new fallout games to be decent, and thus, NMA will not receive decent new blood... Fallout spirit will only be on the first two games... I don't see much potential growing here... Unless, of course, as simple ranting community... Which is not properly a good thing, IMO.

Yes, if that's what happens, that's what happens, and no doubt Bethesda fanboi communities will spring up to replace.

We honestly don't care, we're not going to betray the principles we've always stood behind for a few more hits.

Ah, ok, thanks for clarifying ;) This is all a matter of actual objectives for the community, so I'm not arguing about it. I'll stay here as long as I see hope for a decent Fallout/Falloutish/Fallout related game to be made, though.

As long as there is Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 in the collective memory, there will always be the hope that some day a company will really try to make a game true to the spirit of the first games.

Fallout is discovered each day by persons who maybe just began playing computer games. Maybe the majority of them will snort at the "ugly" graphics but there are people who will try to see beyond that and will begin to love Fallout. And when they will search the net to share their ingame experiences, NMA and other sites will be right here.

I dont know what do you mean with " if the spirit of the franchise is doomed". In my opinion, nobody can break the spirit of the franchise either if its Beth$ or some other future company who will try to skullfuck the franchise for some extra cash.

Why, because I'm not respected within the community enough? :D

We already contracted PsychoSniper for the job.

It's just that you say that Rosh's info should be treated as just another rumour from anybody else,

As previously said, maybe you should ask him about that. It was supposedly first-hand info for him, but second-hand info for us, and not even presented to us as such. Why didn't he post about it instead of slamming us much later for not being able to read his mind or something?

and in the next sentence you say how trusted and respected he is within the community.

Whatever precipitated Rosh's departure, you can rest assured that it wasn't the rest of the adminry going, "Rosh, we don't trust and respect you". His latest shenanigans have eroded a bit of faith in his judgement, but it doesn't mean his role in the fandom isn't appreciated and his rants enjoyed.

...and so, the one known as the Vault Dweller, returned home only to be cast out by his people. Broken and friendless he wandered the wastes.

But worse was in store for him. With the selling of the license to Bethesda, even his legacy as a saviour to the people was shattered. When Fallout 3 was published it erased the last memories of his legend. With the franchise dead, the online groups of his spiritual bretheren slowly disbanded. The hallways of NMA filled with sand, the lights dimmed, and the machinery which had been humming since the first days of the internet were silenced. A darkness came down, settling over the dessicated bones of the last Admin like a comforting shroud.

Legends of NMA remained in the wiki article of "failed video game franchises," but few intrepid explorers ever explored those forgotten archives. Time moved on, and a generation was forgotten.

On July 8th, 2015 the body of the Fallout 3 Project Overseer was found dead, reaching in vain towards the doors of his office. He'd been shot with a high-powered pistol, and during his last moments had sought safety, leaving bloody trail on the cement before he died. Confused witness reports mentioned a pixelated everyday-average looking man in a blue jumpsuit as the culprit. He could not be found, and no connection with Fallout was ever shown.

The last of the NMA posters died on September 22nd, 2080. Like the rest of his brothers, and their avatar the Vault Dweller, he'd wandered the internet as a shattered man. He died as he'd lived; wandering through his DSL connection, mouse in hand. As he looked out the window that morning, a brilliant mushroom cloud appeared in the distance. He smiled, and a single tear ran down his cheek. When the blastwave met him he was laughing, with open arms.

[Just to be clear that was in no way a threat against Bethesda. It was just a joke]

Awesome man! Awesome  Bravo! Really! One of the most emotional fics I've read as of late

AWESOME!!!!!!!! WE WANTZ THIS IS THE FRONT PAGE!

BRAVO!

:EDIT:

Only, you missed the date. It should be 23rd September 2079. It would be the cherry on the top of the cake.

That makes no sense.

Where's the part where we build a totalitarian superpower that conquers most of the wasteland, systematically cleansing it of mutant scum?

I demand answers.

That was awesome Atomic Cowboy... But I don't think history ends this way for NMA... I imagined it more like Brotherhood Of Steel... An isolated community holding the forgotten ideals of "true" PC gaming...
