RPGCodex labels year an abismal failure and predicts doom

As is tradition, the RPGCodex has done a review of the year 2006. Being the fans of classic cRPGs that they are, they couldn't resist putting in a comment about Fallout 3 in their notes on Oblivion (slow people turn on your sarcasm detection):
At the moment Bethesda is hard at work on an Oblivion expansion, called Shivering Isles, and the highly anticipated Fallout 3. Preparing a big surprise for the Fallout fans, Bethesda is keeping all the details a secret. Even though several Fallout developers claimed that the game is real time and very action-y, I dismiss those lies as I remain confident that Bethesda will do what they do well, because we all know that they won't do what they don't do well. Yes, I know it's confusing and that IGN quote was totally taken out of context, but what I'm trying to say is, let's trust the DEVs, okay?

Personally, I have a good feeling about Fallout 3. First, replacing aging turn-based combat with an intuitive, modern real-time system will revitalize the series. Second, Emil Pagliarulo is the lead designer. Honestly, I can’t think of a better choice than a guy who strongly believes that "Oblivion is still a joy to play". Anyway, last, but not the least, Fallout dungeons will be designed by Oblivion modders! Surprised? I bet. I bet you didn't even know that Fallout had dungeons, did you? See, I told you it's gonna be a surprise. Let's just hope you will be able to handle all the joy and excitement.
Link: RPGCodex year in review

ouch

Sometimes, when Im happy, I forget...

:(

hurray, suprises for fallout fans!
yeah! real timed combat full of action and dungeons!
let's celebrate this!

:(

if bethesda wants to make something right it should make a side quest in fallout3 where you go back in time and find yourself in bethesda studios... at least that would give the players a chance to fully express the fallout "dungeon action style" excitement...

was there any good rpg type games released this year?

i admit i fell guilty to the " shiny box of a reputable name " problem, i bought the might and magic dark messiah game thinking its not heros and might and magic series has always been good enough to hold my intrest through multiple play-throughs even though they dont offer anythign uniqe each play-through, but holy shit was i dissapointed for not reading the goddamn box and its really an action game.

next weekend im going to the good computer game store, anything i should seriously consider picking up? it all seems bland lately with FPS games. hell i would even take an interesting RTS at this point.

Reading this is like a punch in the throat followed by swallowing burning hot water named Bethesda. OH JOY!! :puke:

Fallout with dungeons.... :wtf:
Fallout with Real time Play.... :wtf:

Thats about as enjoyable as castrating myself!!! :D

I can already tell Im going to fall in love with this game! :whatever:

I cant even begin to express how difficult its going to be to not run down and fight off the Mobs of people swarming the stores to get their hands on the oh so "Perfect" Fallout 3!

Someone put my testicles in a bench vise.

:falloutonline:

we still have fallout 2 and 1, they cant rob them... can they?
But they would like to i bet ^^

They are going to fuck up Fallout3 as they fucked up everything they have ever done and they will make big money with it. those lucky bastards

the fact that it will be not turnbased says everything, so it really will be a bethesda game like many others: realtime, lots of dungeon (because its only one dungeon but infinite clones of it everywhere) and shiny cities full of happy assfaces...

btw. its my 1st posting, hello everyone

Even the promising hack-n-slash Gothic 3 was botched.

all this shit pisses me off. makes me wish i would win the lottery so i could finance the red dwarf movie and have a good crpg made.

Is there any point living now....the future of RPGs is first person high definshition...wait..or wipe my memory then play fallout again...x infinity...yeah...that's a better plan.

Deathclaws with armour, I bet you that is in FO3. What else..urm, Deathclaws with miniguns!...no swords! BIG FECKIN GREATSWORDS!..DRAGONS! BIG DRAGONS WITH MINIGUNS!

*bang* *slump* *bonk*

This can't be true. Surely Bethesda knows, that if they pull out an Oblivion Fallout mod, they're gonna be smacked the living shit out of them everywhere (both their forums, both the news and the fansites).
I'll make a promise now: If fallout 3 will be a total oblivion mod, i will haunt every single forum, website, communite which likes it until i get an all - time life ban
Nevertheless, it could be true. Maybe Bethesda will try to make a new Fallout community made up of young teenagers and havingnolifeones grownups, trying to shut up the old fashioned Fallout 1/2 community, telling that if you want something like fallout 1 or 2, make yourself a mod or smth.
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion - Fallout "A post dragon-fire real time action Role Playing Game". That's rich...
Don't forget, that we'll get no children, no drugs, no "coffe cup GTA SA" tricks, no burglary, no stealing (stealing is bad kids), no nothing.
Just slashing, dashing, booming, shooting, non stop karate hit action RPG.
No...
Gimme a gun...

P.S.
The quote
Maybe Bethesda will try to make a new Fallout community made up of young teenagers and havingnolifeones grownups
was intented to be for those who love crap like Gothic 3, Action oriented futuristic combat non educational and lethal games and things like WOW and Lineage.

Whats wrong with realtime?
Turn combat is soooo yesterday.
Let us all be modern and enjoy FPS Rpgames.

sincerly
a complete fool

If Bethesda has their way you'll definitely get peasant Jet Junkies with Hardened Power Armor.
