Yes I agree.

Things such as this are reasons for mass suicide. :freak:

So now we should all dress up in purple robes, Pray to the master, :notworthy: Bless the Holy Flame, Then all drink the punch simultaneously!
:ok:

Ok so i was completely wrong, north america has a butload of casles or something mighty similar to them so beeing eligntened by this fact I figured how one of the fallout 3 missions woud be.

You will have to infiltrate a raider ( peasants high on jet with clubs ) guarded casle ( in particular this one http://dupontcastle.com/castles/skull.htm ) and to help the brotherhood retrieve a ancien lost technology of the dreaded twinkie (or something of familiar importance )

Good read. It's almost a shame he didn't slag Gothic 3 as well for consistency. "Abismal"?

Just made me wonder... What the fuck are those companies trying to do? Elimination of CRPG genre or elimination of CRPG fanbase? Are they trying to say "if you want RPGs so badly go play tabletop" or they're trying to force us away from games to go get a job (a life, etc.)?

Just was thinking... There might be conspiracies involving some concerned parents...

Good to know that there are more people felt the same way as me...

So, I think that proves that video games, indeed, make people violent...

Happy Suicides,

I happened to like G3 (read my review to see why).

Why make millions when you can make bajilions? That simple principle explains why Bethesda made Oblivion instead of a Daggerfall-like game. Statistically, morons are a huge market, dwarfing anything else in comparison.

Why make Fallout 3 for the Fallout fans and sell 5-700,000 copies when you can make an "in teh futare" shooter with adjustable stats for the FPS crowd, call it an RPG, and sell 2,000,000+ copies? It's a simple math, really.

Even Bioware doesn't make isometric games anymore (see the new Dragon Age screens), so why would anyone expect Bethesda to make an isometric game?

Why skullfucking the names and licenses then?

Actually, I'm not trying to flame someone or something. But I'm completely at a loss here. Their retardness goes lightyears away from my comprehension.

Can't they simply make a PA survival FPS (I can guess that's how FO3 will turn out) inspired by FO's "feel" (and we all know how BethSoft feels about it) without involving FO's name? Won't they still sell 2.000.000+ copies then?

Hell, why use an existing franchise if it's clear that it's fanbase won't buy it? It's clearly stated on FO fansites that the aspects they're thinking of using is unwanted. Won't it detract the notorious "loyal fanbase estimated to be over 350.000 people" from that 2.000.000+ sales?

....

A bit of thinking lead me to believe that this is all a show. Complete with RADIANT lights and SHINY costumes. A theatretical way to reach to millions. And the show began when they bought the FO license...

P.S.: I just got the feeling this post feels rather off-topic... Sorry about that. I'm completely stupified by their marketing tactics... Or it's high time I went to bed.

Name recognition. They might lose the fan base but they'll generate far more interest from in the industry and press than something without any history. More interest, more sales even without the fan base.

Plus there's the sales pitch, no need to go into describing the game to investors or the press when they can just say 'it's Fallout 3'.

it sadly looks like that fallout series will probably go the same way as x-com did - first two games were great, but later... eh...

More money while destroying the quality... I call it 'the evil of capitalism'

What sells games? Hype and brand recognition. Would KOTOR have sold as much if it wasn't a Stars Wars game?

Scenario A: Beth makes a generic sci-fi game. The game gets generic reviews, good or bad.

Scenario B: Beth makes a Fallout game. Every (p)review mentions Fallout and explains what an awesome game that was (more often than not without actually having a clue why it was an awesome game), and then praises Bethesda for making an even better Fallout game and giving you a chance to experience the awesomeness without having to suffer through the horrible turn-based combat, isometric view, and words that some people claim used to form dialogues. The Fallout license magically turns an average game into something you absolutely must try.

Overall, Beth needed a second IP, an alternative to TES as obviously making two fantasy games is out of the question. The Fallout license was a good candidate.

Hell, why use an existing franchise if it's clear that it's fanbase won't buy it?
They have a lot of experience in this area. First, they fucked the Daggerfall fans with Morrowind. They dumbed the game down, attracted way more people, so it worked and then they fucked the Morrowind fans with Oblivion by following the same formula and completely fucking up the lore in the process. It worked again, because for every fan they lost they gained 10 new ones.

It's clearly stated on FO fansites that the aspects they're thinking of using is unwanted. Won't it detract the notorious "loyal fanbase estimated to be over 350.000 people" from that 2.000.000+ sales?
They are not targeting the Fallout fans at all. If they were, they would be here now, talking to you, would they not? They already have a playable build, yet they didn't show anything to you. Ask yourself why.

as long as you can shoot a giant ant in the eye, plant an armed dynamite using the steal skill on a unsuspecting child, get to be a gimp for a supermutant, kick ass and chew bubblegum, feed your dog some iguana bob's human meat,or have a random monty python encouter... ill think about it...

I've been thinking. There are two possible reasons why Bethesda bought Fallout licence:

1) They played the first three games. Loved them. Feared that it would disappear into their Oblivion along with interplay, so they just jumped and took. After these words we could speculate how many of their new fallout developers are in the Fallout fanbase.

2) They are big money-makers. They have these robots... ahem... sorry, marketing specialists in their offices who say, that once a great name called Fallout could increase the sales of a new game by 1 000 000 for example, OR by 350 000, which is Fallout fanbase. It doesn't matter if Fallout fans don't like it. It would be already bought. So they're doing it for the money, as mentioned earlier in the thread.

I still am not sure which one is it. That poster in E3 made me confused, then these reports of Bethesda just creating a new mod called The Elder Scrolls: FALLOUT

This is so strange. Guess we have to wait for the next E3 to know for sure.

Don't forget, that we'll get no children, no drugs, no "coffe cup GTA SA" tricks, no burglary, no stealing (stealing is bad kids), no nothing.
Just slashing, dashing, booming, shooting, non stop karate hit action RPG.
No...
Gimme a gun...
Yes, because TES didn't have drugs, hidden BOOBIES!!1, burglary, stealing.
Fuck, you can be sure that Fallout 3 will have a gritty atmosphere, drugs, hookers and shit. Because that's what the mainstream audience think of when they hear Fallout.

There has not been a single RPG...much less a game I have played since fallout 1/2 that was as great to play the first time through.

The first time playing each game was amazing, not knowing what would happen, feeling the emotions of scared, excited, the twists and turns in the plot and story.

Games since have been fun.....or entertaining.....but none have ever been as good as fallout. Remember back to your first time playing the fallouts???

Its sad to see the CRPG age dying, and this new wave of dumbed down multi platform action games with stats......how disappointing.....I would trade the graphics and all the other crap of modern games to have an experience like playing fallout for the first time, sadly I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

Name a good CRPG in the last 2 years? Anyone ....

Giant ants had feelers. Fallout sux.

Feeding your dog iguana crashes the game most often.
