Fallout 2 mod RPU - Talking Heads Addon

Tried to select some characters that weren't close together. I will be trying to change my voice up for each NPC but keeping them split apart also means the same voice actor (me) won't be heard in short succession, so the voices will sound more unique.

That's why I was suggesting some sort of audio software that can change the pitch so the voices sound different. Potentially 1 person can voice several characters and have then all sounding unique.

Gotchya, might have to consider it depending on how many volunteers we end up with for VA.

Right now I am in the throes of writing a script to auto extract dialog lines for an NPC. parsing the gsay lines out of the .ssl files has proven a tad trickier than I had hoped. Simply looking at the .msg file isn't enough since half of the lines in there aren't spoken by the npc. Just want the lines for a given NPC that need to be voice acted so I can just package the text files up and send them to potential VA's for recording.

We are up to 41 different people that have come forward with interest in VA'ing multiple characters. Going to be listening to tons of auditions at this rate.

I've seen Quantum Apprentice doing voices, he is really , really average ;p Not like me I am Bass Baritone. Dat ol' man river dat ol' man river ... ... ...

If any of you guys want to apply for voice acting, feel free!

That is a really generous offer from an old school type of internet person :). My spoken English would need to be subtitled lol. The kid ' Cuno ' in Disco Elysium ' was originally voiced by a woman then replaced for ' The Final Cut ' I have the same Scouse accent as the kid , maybe even thicker. I could add a voiceover to bits of Fallout of Nevada as an aural assault on your ears. PS Someone once said I have a face for radio ;p

I fluffed my lines and laughed

I love the scouse accent hahaha

HeHe ta, I looked at your list. I will record some stuff and put it on a disk , or upload If I can find Black-electrics's discord . Is there any special bit rate or anything I should know beforehand. What format for audio files ? I have audacity so I will probs use that !

:salute:
Damn, you did that in less than 2 weeks.
I didn't think it would be this ... easy isn't the right word, but quick. But I also stayed up super late for a few nights in a row getting it done... and I still have some scripting to do to help batch process all the files because we are dealing with thousands of lines of dialog so it isn't over.

Just record any format for now, will have special requirements for anyone we cast to make my life easier in processing all the audio files.

@Goat_Boy is really putting me through the ringer here with the shear amount of people that have been reaching out. The list is getting longer each day. Not going to share any spoilers but we got a couple of roles locked down now and some more exciting potential VA's that we are excited to work with!

EDIT: @Goat_Boy seriously can't get a breath in right now responding to emails, lol. This is good though, excited at all the potential.

Hahahahaha sorry Black

Seriously Black_Electric has been doing god's work

Just take your time BE, there's no need to rush.

@Goat_Boy Can I make a suggestion regarding the talking heads. The original heads had a fairly strong contrast of light and shadows, this helped create a grimy sensation. I was curious to see if I could play around with your talking heads to help achieve a similar look. Just using the softlight filter in Photoshop I think we can get close to that look. Some heads work better than others, but what do you think?

That does make a big difference!

Was meaning to ask you, is there a way to apply a filter like this to multiple layers (all the animation frames) at the same time?
I know you are able to group layers together, and then add an adjustment layer (contrast, hue etc.) but you cant use anything from the filter menu. Can't find a good answer online either.

I'd love to do adjustments like this but applying a filter for every single animation frame (usually 40/50 per character) would be quite tedious.

Lately I've found a way to render characters to make them look decent and not resource intensive for my potato pc, but I wouldn't mind editing the frames after.

You can automate quite a lot of it in PS if you 'batch' it. You need to make an action in PS.....shit I'll do it.

I'll wait when the final head renders are complete (I think you have changed a few heads) and complete it.

*Did a little test - takes me about 1 minute to do a complete FRM, recolour and compile it back into a FRM. Pretty quick. If some come out too dark, just don't use them.

So my biggest concern is trying to convince the VA's to record each line of dialog separately, in it's own .wav file. Some characters have about 100 lines.

If they aren't willing to do that, there will be a ton of post processing involved to separate the lines.

They have no choice, it needs to be done in a manner that makes it easy to process.

@Goat_Boy - I suggest all the talking heads have no background.

Hi Pixote,

Sorry if I misunderstood, are you offering to help edit the FRMs? If so I'd be glad to have on board :D Only at your convenience of course.

Background wise, only Vikki and Juan have one cause I thought they'd look weird using a default background since they're so "small":

Ken Lee and AHS-9 had one previously but I removed it in the last update (not sure if it's included in the last Nexus release).
