Rumor: Fallout 4 to be shown with gameplay video at Beth's E3 conference

That makes no sense, The Half Life 3 "fiasco" is actually the opposite of what you are describing, people make jokes about it because no one even knows if it's gonna be a thing ever. Also other big Companies hype the shit out of the games even before showing trailers so that doesn't apply either.

Why is Bethesda so tight lipped about their projects? What do they gain from it?

If they were showing what they're doing, people would complain right from the start that what they're doing is bullshit.
So they only start showing stuff when it's already too late to complain about major gameplay aspects.

You are overestimating the common "gamer". I mean some people actually enjoy playing their games on console without any of the much necessary mods and such.

I don't want to imagine what kind of abomination Fo4 could be if handled by Fo3 team...

"Since their victory over the Caesar's Legion the NCR has steadily expanded Eastwards and colonized all of the former United States. But in the years since reunification the NCR has turned evil and corrupt, having become a totalitarian state.
Only the heroic Brotherhood of Steel, its Eastern and Western chapters reunited, can stop the NCR and bring freedom back to the wasteland."

Agreed. Just take a look at the hype train threads on the Fallout subreddit and you realise that no matter how shitty it is, it will still sell like hot cakes. It all depends on how much Bethesda is willing to step out of their comfort zone and make something different this time around.

I needed some files the other day and therefore installed Fallout 3 again. It's hilarious how bad this game is. The writing... it's killing me. Crazy how that game could win an award for that. The combat is pretty bad as well-- Level 2 and killing super mutants with a 10mm pistol. Oh, and yeah, I really don't understand why people say the gameworld in Fo3 is better than in FNV. To me it really is not (well, ok, except for the huge buildings and stuff, this actually looks p.cool). In FNV everything feels logical and connected to me, while Fo3 is throwing everything at the player, no matter how well it fits.

Really. It's a bad game.

Basically had the same experience a while ago. Gave Fallout 3 another shot, but it somehow felt worse than the last time I played it.
I really wanted to like it, mainly because the cityscapes and the general art style do look good, but... No. It just blew.

Same here. The inferior writing and shit RPG design brought the whole thing down.

But the immurshunz!!!
I wanted to write a long reply as to why immersion should be a word taken seriously when judging a video game. But then I realised that Bethestards turned "immersion" into a word that attempts to discredit non-FP pov games as not immersive enough to bother with. Can't believe I managed to forget that, I only took a couple of months break from Fallout related stuff.

Immersion is a completely meaningless term nowadays, and if we go with the literal interpretation of it, I think people who "immerse" themselves into games should probably look into getting some medication, and a helmet.

Like the guys before me mentioned here I too have tried Fallout 3 (with mods) again from time to time, but dammit it gets boring so incredibly fast.
The NPCs are badly written, the quests are boring, and there is honestly no reason to 'push through' until it gets better.
I wanted to play the Pitt again and perhaps see Lookout Point but honestly, fuck that.

I did like the Pitt and Point Lookout though. Atmosphere wise at least.

I liked the little "set piece" in Point Look out with the Tribals smashing the doors and then you falling through the floor. Made what would've just been a generic mob battle in Gamebryo a little more exciting.

Operation Anchorage has been the only Fo3 dlc that I finished and it was horrible.
