-wasteland just doesn't have the same kind of thematic hooks that Fallout does. It lacks a strong angle to come at the post apocalyptic genre from, and will therefore could seen as a weaker, more generic version of the setting than even Fallout 3.

I think that, given that Wasteland was made in the 80s and it shows in the ways the characters look, etc, it would be neat to make Wasteland retro-futuristic, but based on the 80s rather than the 90s. Think of a nuked version of the future from Back to the Future 2.
With Queen's "Hammer to Fall" as the intro song.

I'd be happy with a better version of Fallout Tactics. It didn't gain anything by being set in the Fallout universe, but fighting in the ruined landscape was still fun.
Concede the style contest to Fallout and just make a kick-ass squad-based game. Jagged Alliance 2 didn't have much in the way of style and it was great. Through in more RPG elements and a post-apoc setting and you might have a winner.
Using what definition of "technically"? That it was released by the same publisher?

It would introduce new people to the world and help set up the setting for sequels.

Who says they're even calling it a sequel? We don't know anything at this point aside from them using the name "Wasteland".
Ausir said:Yup, the original Wasteland had quite a lot of combat, and you controlled a whole squad of Desert Rangers.

But on the other hand, Wasteland 2 playing like a gold box game just seems ridiculous to me.
