S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Shadow of Chernobyl

in the military building where you have to pick up the documents for the barkeep theres a stash on the same level as the documents i think .. its a small metal box. i'll try and get a screenshot tommorow if you still need it .. i tried double clicking or draging it over weapons but it doesnt work .. might just be something left in ...

you can get a silencer from the barkeep (quest reward) and i've also gotten one from a stash on one of the roofs at Agroprom (you need to find a PDA reference before the stash activates & gets filled ofc, so just saying where would be useless).

ps. does anyone know if you can use the silencer piece .. i found one in agroprom and it says you can hook it up to any firearm but i dont seem to see how.?
the TRs 301 accepts that silencer. it's pretty fun when coupled to the scope. and since it's a common weapon, you can simply ditch the rifle once it's worn out, and re-attach the scope and silencer to a new rifle (unlike most other 'upgraded' rifles)

just drag the silencer onto the equiped TRs in your longarm inventory slot. it should attach.

I might stop playing this game, it's getting to be a bit too repetitive, not to mention too easy once you get past a certain point, where you find kickass equipment.

My brother stopped playing it because of an exploration concept he dislikes, but as he described it to me I don't like it either. He searched a house and a box inside that house and there was nothing inside that box. But when he found a note on some corpse about a guy who hid something inside that box in that particular house, he went back to check out that box and suddenly there was something in there. I think that this diminishes enjoyment in exploration greatly. However, I haven't started playing the game myself so I can't really judge.

Yes indeed! Im playing on master but after i found one good armour it is almost impossible to die :/ There is some damage mod out. That makes all weapons do more damage, to you and vs you. Might be something.

Yes i think this system is boring also.

If I may, I'll quote DirtyDreamDesigner on this one. I think it perfectly sums up everything I'd have to say considering the "balance issues and irregularities" subject:

Bugs can be fixed but shitty design is forever.

somewhere worthwhile to look at is the mods if youve finnished it or are disatisfied with the balances ...

there are a few realism mods that really fix and improove a lot of aspects as well as make it more challenging (damage, spawning, items, everything) - check sergheys for example ...

and a stealth mod which is in development which should make it easier to have a more thief-like approach...

----
on a sadder note - i saw someone say he was getting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome when playing stalker ... i thought it was funny but also a bit true...

This game gave me the scare of my life today.

I've been playing this game really slowly because I'm waiting for tweaks/patches/mods and stuff. Before the patch, I had made my way through the first underground level, and was just about to enter the facility where you steal a briefcase (right where you kill the first brainfrying mutant).
Then the patch was released, so I started over.

So I made my way through the underground today again. The thing is that I never encountered the Bloodsucker guy when I went through this place the first time. I don't know if the bandits had killed him, or if the game had just bugged out or something.
So I went through the underground thinking I knew all the dangers and stuff. Then all of a sudden something grunts (or screams) right in my ear, and this fucker makes himself visible and starts attacking me. I was totally not expecting that, it scared me so bad, haha.

My first impression of the game really wasn't that great and I thought it was just ok, but I love it now and am getting a lot of replayability out of it.

The game is definitely about atmosphere - one of the first things that made me realize how good the game is - everyone speaks the truth, you really feel like you are in a nuclear radioactive anomaly-ridden wasteland. I love "Roadside Picnic", and I think this Chernobyl spinoff is awesome (you guys should read the book if you haven't, the English translation is a free download online from some sites). The creature with the funky psy-attack gives me headaches from the double vision and the crazy sound it makes. I love the guys who play the guitars too! I don't see why people say that the graphics are dated - they aren't dated at all - they aren't the best, but they are better than just ok, they are good. With the settings cranked up the game more than holds its own and will for years to come - the lighting is good, and as was mentioned before, they actually didn't screw up the textures like a lot of developers do.

This game didn't really come across to me as one that was like "omg we are teh best fps ever", but interestingly enough, it is a much better shooter than a lot of them out there (and I really don't like shooters), and when the ai is smart, it is very smart. I'll never forget the second time I went into the town in the beginning and I shot at somebody across the road from the second story of a house - he ducked behind a wall and I didn't see him for a while. I turned around and went to go find him but he had already crossed the street and come up behind me...I was so surprised. The ai makes the game fun for me because every time I kill an enemy I feel awesome cause I outsmarted them.

Improvements - lots of room.
-Money isn't useful.
-Fill in some of the other areas on the map
-The inaccurate pistols can be kinda annoying.
-An artifact that increases carrying capacity from 50kg would be awesome
-If you have some of the endurance artifacts equipped and you run when you are overweight the game glitches (overweight causes the bar to go down really fast, but lots of endurance slows it down and can even almost negate it, but the game glitches and pauses if I run overweight)
-lotsa bugs

Overall, the good outweighs the bad - this game just is fun to play, and because of that, while I may complain about something I would like to see changed, I still want to play the game a bit every day.

Hi

I get frequent random crashes in single player. I have read the bug fixes for the patch and I dn't know if it will fix the problem which is very annoying as my whole system crashes but I don't want to lose my save games for the sake of a patch that will not help. Do you think the patch will help?

Thanks

...
So, you register on a site that has nothing to do with STALKER to say 'STALKER crashes, help!!!!!' without information.

PS: Of course the patch will help. It's a patch. It fixes bugs. Of course, we can't know whether or not all your crashes will be helped, since you didn't post any actual information.

Also, isn't it at least possible to just try out the patch and if it doesn't help, revert? Yeesh.

So would you say Stalker is worth the £25? despite the lack of women?

If the lack of women is disturbing you, you can always spend those £25 on women irl

Also, Starwars, you rock dude, that tweak is priceless. Cheers!

Not disturbing me as such I just like a certain degree of women in games, like all real men I not into sausage fest's as a rule LOL

Great that it works for you, however, I'm just a humble messenger really, hehe. I'll post more if I find any good stuff. 8)

The lack of women in this game doesn't really bother me, but it would still be nice if there were a few. Then again, I suppose it's a really 'butch' setting, so meh.

Some dude e-mailed the PR guy of GSC games and asked about upcoming patches. PR dude responded and said that they were indeed working on a new patch. No details, though he did say that they were working on optimizing the game even more. No ETA as of yet.

Also, this patch would not be compatible with old savegames, just like the first patch. However, they're supposedly working on a tool that will convert the savegames to the new gameversion so people won't have to start over. They said they would release this tool around the time of the new patch.

God damned, such an awesome modification! On my rig I couldnt turn on dynlights without reducing Stalker to a Slideshow-program! But now its running and the nights are dark now! Thanks a lot! Im so happy now! Time for the additional content with the next patch! =)
