First time out of the vault
is anyone else being thrown into a fit of rage trying to do things meticulously and having ocd with it? right now I am trying to build the fort up but its kinda hard when shit floats

So far I've only used it to build a turret cluster that took out the Deathclaw in Concord.

How high can you build? Finished the Burj Khalifa yet?

I made a bar with Metal prefabs and then decided to not bother with that shit anymore and just dotted all the dirt zones with corn and vegetables. The prefab walls really need to have walls with windows, no idea why they don't have those....

The interface is pretty clunky and there are no terrain editing options to speak of so your building options are pretty limited. Interesting idea implemented poorly.

I find it highly annoying that there are no walls, doors or gates that fit to the large semi-circular metal shed parts. I wanted to build a nice hangar for the power armours and thought, well, hangars are usually of that semi-circular shape, but it's kinda silly when you can't close off the ends properly.

Placing things is annoying with how easily you can select something and move that versus build something new to be placed.

Plus, fences are a pain to work with since not only can you not edit terrain, existing fenceposts do not make fences adjust to the height of the terrain. Only new fenceposts will do that, which leaves gaps if you're not careful.

I tried decorating my Metal bar with some paintings and flags.... almost had a seizure with the decorations alternating between snapping into my eyeballs and onto walls at lightspeed. Placing furniture on prefab structures si also pretty buggy as they will snap into the CEILING instead of staying on the ground. 60 dollars.

A tip if you want to close off the gaps in The Castle walls: Use the foundations. Don't use fences, just use the floor that has foundations and you can build a really sweet wall with it, it doesn't float and you can easily adjust its height. Also, you can build one foundation on another foundation.
As a test, I stacked them as high as that radio tower in the castle, and it doesn't seem to be limited there, I just got bored and stopped.

holy shit thanks foundation works great

I know, I was so f*ckin proud of myself when I figured it out, almost pathetically so. :D
Those foundations let you do all sorts of cool stuff with those walls, you can for example put a floor on the intact section of the wall and connect the foundation to it with a ladder for nice and smooth movement. You can build fences onto the foundations for cover. Lots of possibilities.

Some of the shit I seen on reddit that people built are ridiculous. Like, how do you have the patience when the settlement builder is so clunky and broken.

I'm absolutely awful at designing settlements.

My buildings just end up being boring wooden sheds with no imagination, and with tasteless interior decor.

This is my Sanctuary Hills currently.

My actual home is Red Rocket, but I'm working on the settlements because I'm a Minuteman.

making an awesome fort now, gunna give the ppl all military clothes n shit them all cool. I really hope they look at games like farcry and improve the system

How big can your settlements actually be?

Hard to tell, I guess it's not just the size, but how "full" the settlemnt is. because I think that everything contributes to the size, furniture, turrets and so on included.
But it can be far bigger than you need to house the settlers, unless you want to give every single one a separate house.

I have 17 settlers in one settlement. Much more than that would crash the game. /s

I can't build a wall around my settlements. because the terrain makes it float.

Same. You have to make your boundaries near flat ground so it limits where you can place things. Concealing gaps with objects helps some but it sucks.

Here's the shitty hovel I made due to the snap feature which screwed me up since Bethesda gives limited options:
