So ,should we hope that Fallout will die /stop?

The Fallout series will certainly find an end.
It could get a shit load of sequels and spin-offs that newer fans are put off by them and older fans don't find time to game anymore.
But I doubt the idea will ever go away. Lets not forget Fallout came from Wasteland (which in turn has received an official sequel), there may be something after that, like a spiritual successor.
The question is if we should HOPE that it dies.
[Hope is a mistake.]
You missed the part where in the same statement I pointed out that the idea was cynical to begin with. =P

I certainly hope not. Fallout is the most original series that I've ever experienced. Still, i'm relatively new to the fandom (been a fallout fan for 4 years so far) compared to others. All the ideas and stories it has are all brand new to me, and seeing it end would be heartbreaking.

I fear a future where people will see Fallout as a game where you kill stuff with guns and plasma rifles.

Judging from what I've seen and heard it's already pretty close to that. I read somewhere in another thread that that's what the new generation fanboi's are begging them for. (More of a paraphrase than quote):

"More guns, more armor, a return of BOS/ Enclave [Whether or not that even makes a lick of sense. Man they're fun to kill and they have SICK armor to loot!] etc." And of course, eye candy. We can see it already has lots of that.

I don't think it will be allowed to die so long is it's profitable. Different dev/pub, but how many "Call of Duty"'s are there?

Elder Scrolls is up to 6, and I don't see that dying. If the time line runs too far ahead into the future the current owners of the lore (Bethesda) can always turn the clock back and make a prequel like they did with their other franchise.

You know that at least one installment along the way is going to have to be an online version, because that's what a lot of the rabid 'boi's want.

Like a pro athlete past his prime, I'd personally rather see it retired with dignity than dragged on way past the point where it stank to high heaven.

One silver lining, if there indeed is one, is we have Obsidian that may want another crack at it using the new engine (on F4 anyways). I think Fallout New Vegas was great fun. And there are of course fans and mods that may with varying degrees of success, add some playability back into it..

At this point, death is the best thing that can happen to the Fallout series. Hoping for Obsidian to take the franchise is unrealistic, unfortunately.

At this point, Van Buren and Underrail are our only hopes for a true Fallout successor. Consider the new games a spinoff and save your sanity. I've already lost mine.

Did anyone else get remind of The Maniac from IASIP by Max in Fury Road?

When Fallout 3 was released, I remember reading about a group called "The Brotherhood" (a play on Brotherhood of Steel) that was composed up of old Fallout fans. They felt that fallout 3 was going to utterly ruin and destroy the old Fallout games and what made them so special, so they took it upon themselves to "recover and keep safe anything that had to do with the old Fallout titles (1 and 2, not Tactics or BoS), such as mods, the Fallout Bible, copies of the first two games as a "just in case Bethesda want's to remove any trace of them so no one can buy/get them again", and even wiki pages. Anything that had anything to do with or might keep the old Fallout titles alive, they saved. They called themselves "The Brotherhood" because, like the Brotherhood of Steel who worked to save and preserve technology, they worked to save and preserve anything Fallout related which could preserve and keep the title alive "for future generations". They had their own Scribes who wetn about saving and recording everything, such as mods, game guides (they had a copy of Per's in their "Codex Library". They even had a copy of the original websites, like NMA does), down to a copy of both games themselves, in their original, unpatched forms). The "Knights" had the job of making NEW mods and sometimes worked to fix bugs on older mods, in order to keep the interest of both old time fans and gain the interest of new fans alike.

I thought that was really cool though, and I've always wondered if those guys were still around - though chances are since I've haven't heard anything in nearly a decade, they probably aren't.

Van Buren is a dead end. New Vegas pretty much makes 60% of VB non canon.

Didn't InXile recently trademark "Van Buren"? There's a chance that it could become Wasteland 3 (as Wasteland and Fallout are thematically similar but canonically irreconcilable).

I know. They wouldn't use the same plot elements. My point is InXile may be using the Van Buren name to possibly make a true Fallout successor.

this makes a lot of sense and is what ive been saying about the movie industry for a long time.

now, dont crucify me for this, but FO3 and NV are decent games AS LONG as you dont compare them to 1 and 2. they're decent, but not the same. they're part of that RPG/FPS hybrid which is fine, but if it had come out called something else with a new world and stuff, it wouldnt have even phased most people. i mean, obviously we can all see WHY they'd want to steal the FO universe, but im wondering if they couldnt have gotten close without copyright infringement. it's just another example of a reboot that missed the point and should have been a standalone

Van Buren was just the Codename of BI's FO3. Bethesda has no claim to the codename, as it is literally just a last name.
