So what do people think of the characters?

I'm not so sure Maximus believes in anything. While interrogated he says over and over again that he wants to hurt the people who hurt him, and if the Brotherhood will give him the power to do that then he's willing to do anything for the Brotherhood. Maximus doesn't feel any debt or loyalty to anything, it's all transactional to him. That also tracks for Nolan's play style.

Except that ignores that he constantly is trying to be a hero. The show fakes us out by making us think Maximus might be ruthless enough to sabotage his friend to become a knight but it's actually why the Brotherhood makes him a squire because they think he can be that kind of monster. Instead, his first act upon getting power armor is trying to protect a Wastelander he thinks is being murdered.

He is not "constantly" trying to be a hero, he only acts heroic to boost his own ego. Lucy had to talk him out of letting an entire community die just so he could use power armor. The guy is a nutcase and a sociopath, which is consistent with how Jonathan Nolan plays video games, apparently.

You mean the people who just tried to kill Lucy? Yeah, I can't imagine why he would think they didn't deserve a fusion core.

Choosing to help Lucy rescue her dad and be a hero is hardly a poor choice over a bunch of Vault monsters.

He knew that they weren't going to kill Lucy when they left the vault. They both got themselves exiled for violating the rules, making a mess, and burning a man's face off. They did everything wrong and he was going to let them die for his bullshit.

Again, you choose between saving someone you care about and complete strangers.

With the power armor, Maximus can save Lucy's dad.

It's why you should always take Necropolis' water chip.

Do you not understand how this is genocidal?

Given I directly reference Necropolis, I know exactly what I mean and I also note a huge chunk of players would absolutely choose what Maximus is.

Also in real life plenty of people would choose to help the person they care for over a bunch of strangers.

To be frank, I wish the show had the balls to have Maximus murder all of the Vault dwellers to save Lucy but they decide to have no real damage done.

The Necropolis and vault don't need to be saved from anything. They're perfectly fine unless someone decides to steal something vital to their survival.

It's one thing not to share the water you found with strangers and another to murder a bunch of people to steal their water.

To save your Vault, the other Vault must die.

It sucks but that's the Wasteland.

I don't blame them for their choice even if I'd want to shoot them if I was living there.

Yeah, let those people die that have nothing to do with your predicament because "that's the wasteland". Extremely naive and honestly really childish view on the setting, there are big negatives for letting Necropolis and the vault go to shit because you take the chip.

From what i read apparently a lot of people actually hated letting Necropolis go to shit if you took the water chip.

"Extremely naive and childish", really? :whatever:

Unfortunately, Fallout has a history of softening the hard choices the Wasteland would really require. That's why the best ending was when siding with Gizmo saves junktown but they didn't want to offend people who wanted to play the big hero by siding with Macgyver.

Yes dude, you are literally endorsing the ideology of The Enclave.

Quite ironic that now non-germans are those most susceptible to nazi ideology and myths. Makes me chuckle.
It makes sense in terms of "the Germans failed, but we're built different though." National Socialism has never been tried in MY herrenvolk dictatorship.

And yet it is you who are siding with the filthy mutants.

I'd rather side with the Enclave in fiction than spend all my time with people who harass RL creators over perceived violations of canon.
