Some Chris Avellone shenanigans on twatter

Honestly I think most people don't actually know who works on these games anyway. People here are more likely to because it's a fan forum but the average person doesn't know the difference (or even care). I would say most people still think New Vegas was a Bethesda game because it has the logo on it.
In the 90's me and my friends noticed the name DAVID HAYTER and KOJIMA in the opening credits.

Didn’t know that about 76 development. Don’t get my hopes up just for it to not happen.

How could you not know that? Why are you even here? You didn't even play Fallout.

I think one of the main reasons it could happen is because the Fallout brand is a cash cow and given how long it's taking Bethesda just to get around to TES6 (working on Starfield) it's unlikely we would see another Fallout game for another 10 years unless different studios did it. Fallout 76 wasn't even really a Bethesda main studio release, a lot of the work was done by studios in Austin/Dallas (formerly BattleCry Studios/Escalation Studios respectively) with a handful of main studio personnel. A New Vegas 2 wouldn't be a Fallout 5, it would be another spin off like 76.
The way i see it is that they are actually gonna wait it out, let the poor reception and controversies of Fallout 76 be a thing of the past and then do Fallout 5 themselves. Yes, that means not allowing anyone to make Fallout games while they wait it out because the brand at the moment is kind of damaged in the eyes of a lot of people (the only reason they even keep working in Fallout 76 is to milk their fanbase).

Meanwhile they release Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6, the fans will go back to sucking Bethesda's dick because those games are gonna be single player experiences wtih their usual dopamine rush loop the fans love so much. That puts Bethesda back in the people's graces, and then they can safely do Fallout 5 because they assume that fans now think Bethesda is "back on track".

At this point "Fallout 76 is a buggy cashgrab" is treated like an old meme and the general consensus is "Bethesda listens to and cares about their fans" and "adding NPCs fixed every single problem with Fallout 76".

They could safely drop a trailer with some vague buzzwords like "17 times the detail" a month before release and it would sell better than 4.

Bethesda fans do have the memory span of a goldfish, so i wouldn't be surprised if they got excited about the announcement for Fallout 5 now.

Plus what Todd Howard said in that recent interview with IGN when he was asked if they would allow anyone else to make Fallout games again pretty much put a nail in the coffin on that whole thing.

I've been playing Fallout 76 since it came out in 2018 and it's a much, much better game now. Honestly I think it's way better than Fallout 4 which I still haven't beaten after 4 or 5 attempts. The last time I checked it was the most played game on xbox gamepass so it's actually done quite well. It being a decent game isn't as newsworthy or meme-able as it being a terrible game though, they never completely recovered from that.

Fallout 76 is as far as I know still designed to limit what you can achieve daily to encourage routine behavior, creating a form of addiction. Gotta log in for that daily reward. So no, Fallout 76 is still absolute shit.

Fallout 76 now has Oblivion style level scaling and any game with that can fuck off as far as i'm concerned.

Last I played most places scales along with the player if that's what you mean. So their levels will for the most part be alongside yours. However, there are more dangerous areas of the game where things will be more difficult especially for a low level player but that's probably because of lack of perk cards and modded weapons.

When was the last time you played? Because rather recently they added a literal Oblivion scale to the game, meaning all zones now scale with the player's level.

I remember when I played back in 2018 with a friend we were doing a quest with the molemen then a level 40 player passed through the area and they all auto-upgraded to level 40 and we were stuck doing a literal insta-kill "Edge of Tomorrow" style mission.

Wasn't fun

Earlier this year. I think I stopped around... March? It was right after the camp update when they decided to nuke their forum for fucking discord servers out of all things. Which me and many other suspect is just a way to brush off genuine criticism as if you want to critique the game then it'll just get pushed back by all the other chit chat which is why a fucking chat server is an awful replacement for a forum.

I thought you guys hated the fuck out of this game and yet you keep playing it.
Curious.

Oh I enjoyed Fallout 4 on its own merits quite a lot and I was itching for more of that same feel and figured I'd give Fallout 76 a try when it was dirt cheap which is why I played it and it was also so that I could criticize it as a Fallout installment however I gave up on paying attention to the lore issues quite early on and just treated it as a game to keep my hands busy while I listened to podcasts. And it worked well as a game for that. It was when I entered late game that I got suckered into the daily shit because I have an addictive personality and when I realized it I started criticizing the shit out of Bethesda on their forums for the way they designed the game as I found it absolutely predatory. Then they nuked the forum.

If they could have just written 4 a bit better and allowed for just a few differences in choice it would have been really great. just a few tweaks. Nothing much.

I haven't played 76, or FO4—despite the Steam free weekend.

I have seen videos of them both; not interested.

Honestly, this is a problem with MMOs in general, or at least these days; I remember not having those daily login rewards bullshit 10-15 years ago with some of the MMOs I've played.
