[SPOILERS] Super Mutants in Fallout 3

I thought they totally wanted to forget everything that happened in F2 and F1.

what if F3 is linked to F2? thats a bit impossible but maybe a few references to the old games (like harold) can be found

Here's a HIGH QUALITY voice sample of Harold directly from Fallout 3.

He sounds similar, but distinctly different. Could be because of age, or different voice actor.

See for yourself.

Also, I'd try to listen to the end if I were you. Trust me.

The way he says "Bob" is very like Harold said in the previous Fallouts. So maybe, it's the same actor.
The voice is heavier and deeper, probably because of Harold's age and hey...he's got turned into a tree!

But anyway, after reading all of the comments here and seeing the first post with images...I'm not suprised with what Beth did to the FO3. I knew that it's not gonna be Fallout since I've seen the Teddy Bears' idea.

[spoiler:caabea2ed6] I shed a tear when I saw Harold's demise. Not because it was particularly moving, but because Bethesda took the license and killed off one of my favorite characters in the time span of about fifteen minutes.

Fuck you Bethesda. Fuck you. [/spoiler:caabea2ed6]

Can someone put this MP3 online somewhere it's neither streaming or downloading for me.

Thanks

Thank you sir.

- EDIT - this was bad. Really really bad.

What the hell kind of voice actors did they find?

There was a time, long before I began lurking the NMA forums (about 2002) when I was a genuine fan of Bethesda.. I mean their games were never as creative or innovative as Myst, or as totally engaging as Baldur's Gate but there was a certain amount of lore and background there that was enough to keep a fantasy buff like me happy.

Then I played Oblivion. Way to fuck up what little you had going for you Bethesda.
Then I heard they bought the Fallout Franchise (or most of it). That was when the hatin' began.

I kept thinking: "If a team of developers can take their own franchise and fuck it up, just imagine what they'll do to someone else's!"

Now I know. What we get is a rooted version of Harold (colloquial pun i'm sure) and bad acronyms for re-canonised lore. I mean FFS; EEP. That goes up there with GOAT for downright rediculous and running ghouls for stupid.

EEP indeed Bethesda. EEP indeed.

*SPOILER* They raped goog old character

No, they really did.

In my walkthrough I ran into... Harold. Or what they intended to be Harold.

So, as everyone did, according to Bethesda, Harold moved to the East Coast too. And ended up... being a tree... And an oasis grew around him. What a fucking shiny fairytale.
This was quite a shock to "meet" him.

Vault wikia has a page about it: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Oasis

BOOOOO![/spoiler:9498b1c593]

Didn't find him on my first playthrough. Tried looking, but failed. Yeah, the whole Harold on the East Coast thing is utter crap. Just another piece of misplaced nostalgia to appease us old Fallout vets.

Ok like seriously, half the people in this topic are insane. You guys need to lay off for a second and look at what you're criticising.

The stuff in Van Buren with Harold becoming a fruit farm was just as silly and imo doesn't really capture the Fallouty sort of humour and 50s-esque style that makes Fallout what it is..

The developers always noted that "Bob" (the tree in harold's head) would continue to grow and eventually sprout fruit and was unusually resistant to radiation so to me the same thing happens in Fallout 3 as it does in Van Buren, really. Fruit drops off and causes other trees to grow- SHOCK HORROR! Thats what fruit is for! Whether Harold becomes an orchard or an oasis makes no difference to me really.. except the whole orchard thing, well.. harold being overwhelmed by the tree thats grown in his head seems like a pretty horrible, sudden, and ironic way for somebody's life in the wasteland to end. An inevitable death for somebody who would inevitably die, where widespread death is itself common and overwhelming.

Look at what I am criticizing? Unfortunately for me, I have been doing this since the game came out. Perhaps, if I wasn't so opinionated I could follow the OoOoO-AhHhh crowd instead of objectively discussing this game. They didn't out Harold on the East coast because thats what the BIS developers wanted. So I do not know where you get that from. The only reason this entire Oasis area was made is because Beth wants to point and say,"OoOO, look, its Fallout-y. Harold is Fallout." I wish for once, they would add to the lore and cannon instead of altering it beyond comprehensible recognition.

i was firts positive the firts time i see the fallout poster from Bethesda's but since them to now, damn now i hate them with pasion.

what the bloody bloody hell they were thinking when doing that to harold, jesus god DAMN i JUST CANT TAKE IT................... "BANG".

now supermutants in DC never maked sence since the beggining, did you remenber that todd sad theyr team got some COOL ideas to explain theyr presence sigh..................."BANG"again

Harold's presence in the Van Buren area (much closer to California) was much better justified and tied to the main plot than in FO3.

I found a friendly mutant wondering around the wastes.

Didn't get much dialogue out from him, and I can't even ask him if he would like to join me.
