Affordable is an adjective I'm not interested with regards to self-defense

The latest addition to the John Wayne Arsenal of Freedom:

My Safari Arms Matchmaster 5 1911 in .45 acp

20 cool points if you know what recent movie this gun was featured in and what hottie was using it...

You are correct sir! Did you cheat and google it or did you know?

I plan to replace the grips on it with something much better and I might put a compensator on it like it's shown in the movie.

I took it out and shot it today, man is it nice. The previous owner had upgraded the trigger package and it works very well.

It also has upgraded sights and an upgraded barrel. This pistol was a steal for $515.00 at auction. A new one from the factory will cost you over $900.00 plus tax/shipping.

It took me 3 years of searching to find this one and I am very happy!

Dammitboy how do you store your weapons at home, could someone access them if they broke into your place. Do you keep the firing pins separate, etc?

I keep most of them in a safe, but several are not and could be stolen if someone broke into my home. To deter that threat, I have good strong locks, have a good relationship with my neighbors, I have a home alarm system and an indoor dog. I also keep a low profile with my guns. Not the kind of thing you brag about or flash around the neighborhood. I also have them insured, a photo record of each one and their serial numbers recorded. In case of theft, that would be a huge help in their recovery.

The shotgun and pistol I keep out are out of plain sight, but it would not be difficult to locate the ones I have accessable for home defense. I also keep a pistol on me or in my truck when I'm out and about.

Removing the firing pin from weapons kinda makes them pointless to have.

Good Lord! Do really need all that? I get you want guns for self defense, but most of those weapons may never be used.(If any get used.) Have you ever thought of that?

There are a great many reasons to own firearms & self-defense is only a small portion of that, to name but a few others:
- Historical significance
- Mechanical/Engineering marvel
- Sport shooting
- Recreative shooting (aka FUN!)

You forgot hunting. I'm assuming by 'sport shooting' you meant the competitive shooting sports.

Most of my shooting these days is split between hunting and target shooting.

@ Hassknecht - ok, you earned the 20 cool points then.

Why do people collect stamps? Old coins? Silver bullions? :)

So I was looking at getting a Daniel Defense M4, heard some pretty good things about them. I sincerely regret selling my Colt and want to get back into shooting rifles.

Anyways, while doing my researching I am starting to seriously consider just grabbing a KAC SR-15E3 and be done with it. I would spend $800-900 more that could have been used for a nice red dot, ammo, and extra magazines, but... hot damn that is an amazing rifle. I have never got to fire one, but I did get to hold one, and it even feels amazing.

Does anyone here have any experience with the DDM4 and KAC SR-15s? I loved my 6940 to death, still kicking myself that I sold it. Especially since I had the LE model and it is worth even more now that they discontinued those and reintroduced the sporters.

oh and for those that like the gun porn, random pictures of both the SR-15s and the DDM4.

And on a side note, went into Wal-Mart to pick up some .40 for the XDM, and saw a Federal ammo can full of 5.56 stripper clips, awesome stuff. Came online and saw that some Wal-Marts are starting to sell Bushy ARs, which honestly is pretty bad ass. Say what you will about Bush Master, I just like seeing an AR in a Wal-Mart gun cabinet.

What's your point? Guns cost money just like food does and it's better to sell them in a store than out of a van

It's just so casual :))

Umm yeah i think i'm gonna get some 10mm for my pistol, honey do we have enough .45 for the colt? It's such a bore coming back - i just think i'll pick up some extra just in case.

Then coming home and getting a sawned off shotgun out of the grocery bag - yeah.
