The Guns and Ammo Thread

Those are your only two options? I have not fired either one. I have seen the storm behind the counter and IIRC CDNN had a bunch of FNP and FNX that were remaindered for cheap.
Out of the ones I've fired, those are the two I have liked the most, yes. I'm looking at polymer-framed guns in the $500-$600 range only for my first go around.
I guess my STEN is not allowed in Cali
If Dianne Feinstein has her way soon we'll probably be limited to black powder muskets and revolvers.

just got an email from CDNN

Beretta storm 9 or .40 $519
S&W M&P .40 $369 pre owned, $399 new
Sig 226 .40 $499
Ruger LCR .357 $449

Of course no sales on Assault Weapons

What's CDNN?

And let's not use the term "assault weapon" like it actually has any meaning. =P

Edit: Removed reference to Beretta promo since I realized I am blind.

CDNN sells guns to gun dealers/FFLs. They are a wholesaler/distributer.

If you have a hookup who is a FFL, then you can save a lot of money by buying from the wholesaler and cutting out the middle man.

My FFL charges me $15 to do the paperwork on any gun I want. it is up to me to pay for it and have it shipped to him.

I can usually save 30% off of retail. If i find something that has been remaindered, i can get a better deal.

I got a springfield 1911 for $400 delivered once.

On another note, just found that Beretta is a having a promotion where you get a free holster with the purchase of a PX4 Storm through June 30. Great timing... looks like I may be picking up the PX4 Storm.

My friend just sold an Robinson M96 expedition 5.56 rifle on gunbroker.

The asshat who sniped the auction at the end lives in California.
Why would someone who lives in a state like Cali try and buy a rifle that is specifically banned in that state? Not a cheap rifle I might add and one that by looks alone is obviously banned in California.

Minus the pistol grip and with 10rd mags that rifle is actually quite legal in CA.
Wikipedia said:
In addition to a lengthy list of specific firearms that are banned by name, the following firearms are banned by characteristic (from Penal Code section 12276.1) :

(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
--(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
--(B) A thumbhole stock.
--(C) A folding or telescoping stock.
--(D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
--(E) A flash suppressor.
--(F) A forward pistol grip.
Basically, as long as it isn't on a list of explicitly banned makes/models (and that list hasn't been updated in forever) and doesn't have one of those listed features (or a mag capacity greater than 10), it's fine. There are lots of ARs and other assault weapony rifles up on the walls of my local gun shops.

I think they just updated the list last week or within a few days as they passed several new laws.

The FFL that the buyer provided refused to have it shipped to him (via a phone conversation)

I dont know if anyone makes a bullet button for an M96... do you know?

Ammo... On day 4 of looking for ammo at any retailer. Nothing to be had except for expensive hunting ammo (rifle) or 12guage shot shells.

I want to go shooting, but dont want to dip into the apocalypse stash. <sigh>

I'm trying to identify a particular pistol I shot at the range in Poznan... .22 LR, slide much like the Desert Eagle (in that only the part further to the back moves), a grip tailored for right handed shooters. It had a distinct rectangular cross-section. Was classified as a signal pistol.

Damn, can't find it.

It's a unique gun that will only keep increasing in value because it resembles the Stoner 63s (but isn't identical to it).

Why did he sell it (and why didn't you buy it? ;) )? It's a great conversation piece & a good long term investment if left original.

So... My friend traded a pre 1989 HK-91 for it and some cash ($1200 IIRC).

I dont have the $1800 he wants for the M-96 or the $3000 he wanted for the HK

I have more guns being worked on than I can afford right now... so not interested in getting a "unique" gun (they are common enough around here) that you cant find spare parts for... none of the parts are interchangeable with Stoner 63 parts (except maybe the stock)
So knowing my luck, I would be selling slightly unusable M96 in a couple of months if I bought it.

I've looked around quite a bit and haven't been able to find anything about the Kasler list being updated recently. I've heard about several new laws being proposed, but not of any that have actually passed.

Based on the most recent Kasler list posted on the DoJ website, the Robinson M96 is not specifically forbidden and, therefore, should be perfectly legal as long as none of the general "assault weapon" characteristics are present.

That's odd. Either that FFL has access to information I've been unable to find or he simply was unsure and chose to err on the safe side. My guess is the latter.

Haven't the slightest, unfortunately.

W00T

I just got my concealed pistol license in the mail.

it took 10 days.

The only thing I have that is small enough to be reasonable to carry is a Makarov (bulgarian), so that is what I will carry (using russian FMJ ammo) until I get something else (probably a Sig 938)

A person with a Mak that is trained in its use, is far better than a guy with a high dollar CCW pistol that hasn't really trained with it enough in realistic circumstances.

While I wouldn't endorse it, the Mak is far from being bad.

I have always liked the Makarov. For its size, it has a decent amount of power and the cost was right... though it does have more felt recoil than many people are comfortable with.

Both of mine were commercial versions from Arsenal and cost me $150ea. I think one of them came with a shoulder holster (will have to find it).

I want a Sig 938 (9mm). I think thats what I am getting for X-Mas.

I like the Czech CZ-82/83s, but they are around $300 each and like I said, I already have two Makarovs.

I Have thought about getting the sights changed on one of the makarovs by adding new sights from the colt mustang or SIg Copy (thats what Makarov.com was doing in the late 1990s until the supply of mustang 3 dot sights dried up)

So, I finally am officially a gun owner. Walked into my local gunstore yesterday and lo and behold, a used FNP-9 had appeared behind the counter. I hadn't planned on buying used, but since the FNP was discontinued and you can't get the FNX in California, my other option would really have been a new PX4 Storm.

It was priced at $450, a good $130-$140 less than the Beretta. It seemed to be in good condition (to my admittedly very untrained eye). Seemed like a good deal, so I went for it.

Now, is there anything in particular I should look for to check in a used gun? Or is there really not much I can do until I put a some rounds through it to see if it misfires or blows up in my face?
