The Guns and Ammo Thread

How did you take back a bunch of post samples?
Wasn't samples, and unfortunately, that's not the way post sample transfer works. They found another agency to sell them to. We brokered the transfer, as well as the purchase of the M4s. They went with the most competitive vendor, which is not the one we recommended, but that is another story entirely.

ahhhh that makes more sense... the way I read it, they returned them and I could not understand how. What are they considered, if not samples? Post-86 non transferable?

Selling them to another department seems like the way to go.

I heard some department in TX did that with G36s that came from a bad batch (whatever that means). Could have been crappily converted SL-8s for all I know.

There is also a pretty active secondary market for 02 SOTs who will buy department cast-offs and strip them for parts to build look-alikes on civilian receivers.

Rent a CZ.
Made another trip a couple days ago, and I tried out the Beretta PX4 Storm in .40 and the CZ 75B in .40. I liked them both... really, I liked most all the guns I shot except the Glock. The CZ is definitely a little heavier (most of the guns I've been trying are polymer). I still ended up coming back to the FNP-9.

It might not really be fair to the CZ and Beretta; I might just like 9mm better than .40. I was able to get back on target after shooting with the FNP quicker, it seemed like. Plus, the FNX has fully ambidextrous controls which will be nice for my friend I go shooting with who shoots wrong-handed. So, the FNX-9 is currently what I'm leaning toward most.

I've found I have a tendency to shoot a little high and to the left of where I aiming. I'm not sure if maybe I just need to adjust the sights or if I need to adjust my stance. Or if it's something else entirely.

That is most likely you pulling the trigger too harshly. It should be a gentle squeeze as you exhale and firing the firearm right before you take your next breath.

I thought about that, but if it was the trigger pull shouldn't I be shooting to the right (I shoot right-handed)?

No, jerking occurs to the left when shooting right handed because your trigger finger is pulling your hand inward.

This may well be the least used gun in my collection, but I do indeed own one:

ak47alg.jpg

Nothing special. A cheap-ish Century import of what I believe is a Yugoslavian gun. 7.62x39. I know next to nothing about AKs in general, and not much more about this one in specific. I haven't shot it in a couple years.

It is a yugo M70. I cant tell if its an import or not.
It will have a name on the receiver. Zastava if the receiver came from Yugo, or Century (or some other USA company) if it was assembled from a kit.

One thing about Yugos, many of them with original barrels are not chrome lined, so you have to be more diligent about cleaning them if you use dirty/corrosive ammo than with an ak that has a chrome lined barrel.

Finally got around to swapping uppers on my BCM Kino.

After:

Now I can return my removable carry handle to it's original function: aligning A3 uppers with rails during install.

I'm right there with you. There are a few odds and ends I'd like to pick up still (Knight's E3 LPR, LWRC SPR) but not at current pricing. I flirted with the idea of a Tavor just to have a bullpup, but the ones that are readily available are way overpriced. I've also got seven stamps in the works, so I've spent enough money for a while.

I have noticed some prices dropping.... but not fast enough.

If magpul makes good on their claim that they are going to leave colorado, that will put them out of production for a while.

I just scored these today

God, those grips look so friggin' uncomfortable...

Also, you turned the stocks the wrong way. ;)

The grips on the T stocks are way less comfortable than the loop stocks or the converted KG stocks... but they are not that hard to get used to... its weird, but after awhile, they start to feel kind of like a standard wood rifle stock... but colder of course.

I really wanted some MK2 kits because the barrels can be removed.

I am going to see about having one or more of these built in 3 calibers: 9mm, 7.62x25 and .22TCM... Yes .22 TCM. I have to get a .22 blank and have a chamber reamed out for .22 TCM, but that will be really cool.

So one of my many stamps in progress is for a 9mm shorty AR. In the inter-medium, I put on dedicated pistol buffer tube. This thing is genius in a couple of ways, in that it is internally the exact same size as carbine tube, but doesn't require a castle nut and is externally too big to put a stock on to. Therefore, can't even inadvertently make an unregistered SBR with it.

Anyways, I have a long wait ahead of me, and some more components to procure, including a surprisingly elusive 9mm port door & deflector assembly. I figured I'd mock up some options while I waited, and use the magic of Photoshop to see what the end product might look like.

And some simple cut & paste:

Being able to see it makes me think I am going to go with a different stock and a shorter rail.
