this is why americans can't buy real Kalashnikovs. they can only buy butchered civilian ("hunting") versions that have been reconfigured after being imported.
because pistol grips are EVIL! EEEVIL!

Until the ban ended, now you can get any pistol grip version available, unless I'm very confused.

Same thing with the imports of dragunov's - although, I don't know why you'd want to own one...

Because Dragunovs are soo very very Sexy :D
I want one but I haven't seen any for sale in the US for any less than $2,000! Some as much as 4 or 6

Is it true that a Dragunov kicks like a mule? A friend of mine shot one during a military fair here, said he couldn't feel his arm afterwards.

In general recoil is more about shooting pose than about the gun - if you hold it correctly you should be ok.

a Mosin Nagant M/44 will kick more than an SVD. since the action of the SVD lessens the recoil and the M44 has a shorter barrel to boot.

and yes, posture is very important. especially when lying down to shoot!

a lot of people don't seem to understand that unless you pull the rifle into your arm firmly, the rifle will cause you MORE pain because it builds up momentum before it hits you.
if it is already pulled in firmly, it cannot kick you so hard.

My latest purchase. M1 Garand, Springfield Armory

Manufactured in February 1942. Serial numbers match, stock's in great shape (has been lightly sanded and refinished, but still shows dents and small gouges from use.

got it, a case and 3 clips for $650.

Took the new beast out and shot it today, was shooting 2.5 inch groups at 100 meters. Only problem was the clip ejector was malfunctioning, retaining pin kept working loose and letting my clips get ejected after only 3-4 shots. took it to the shop, the guy I bought it from's gonna replace the whole assembly, take it out to the range tomorro and make sure that fixed it. no cost to me.

This is why I own a M1A1 Garand (korean war issue with Marine Corp seal on stock) - magazines rule over clips baby!

Except I paid $1100.00 for mine...

That guy kicks ass.

Anywho, here is my "Play gun" (click the thumbnails)

It's a Norinco SKS sporter. It's been given a synthetic stock, and enough replacement american parts to make it legal. Since, giving a Chinese gun some how makes it more dangerous and putting american 4 or 5 american made parts make it less dangerous.

Anyway, absurdity aside, it's got a synthetic stock, 30 round ak mag(the original 10 round ak style mag went missing with a previous owner  now i'm on a half hearted search for one). The working parts of the gun rocked in the synthetic stock so I had to cut out parts of the stock to make it fit, then back fill some parts with epoxy putty, I used what was left of the epoxy on the pistol grip giving it a better grip. Recently I've added made a peni... Foregrip that is perfectly molded to my hand. And I made it green. ^,,^

I made the foregrip by drilling a hole in plastic then inserted a big bolt and epoxied it into place. Then I put a whole lot of epoxy putty on it and squeezed it into a mold of my hand. Then I painted it. Gona see if it works this week end when I go to the range.

My next project I think I'll do on it is add a flash suppressor or a compensator. But first I have to find out if thats going to be legal.

Bah, you just couldn't handle a 30-06.. no shame in it old man... i understand your old bones are brittle and cant handle anything more than a cap gun.. That and you ex jugheads are kinda sensitive.

Depends on what state you live in.

http://www.gunlaws.com/links/

Suppressors are Illegal in most states, with few exceptions.

Flash suppressors arnt illegal.. Suppressors are, "silencers". Unless you have a class 3 or higher Federal firearms license

My mistake. A suppressor would be a cool addition to that custom SKS though. BTW, the grip looks like a dildo.

Gun nuts get lonely too :P

I didn't even see that until I took pictures today. I may put some more putty on... then again, it fits my hand so damn well.

Anyway, the flash suppressor may or may not be illegal since the gun didn't come with one and I know some styles are banned because they come too close to a suppressor. (IE they look EEEEVIIIIILLLLL, or they muffle the sound of a .308 down to a mere 7.62)

wikipedia said:
Flash suppressors and barrel shrouds were seen as 'military' features, and were on the list of Federally defined features that could cause a rifle to be defined as illegal, if manufactured after the effective date of the Federal assault weapons ban that went into effect in 1994 in the United States. Muzzle brakes, on the other hand, were ruled "legal" by the BATF. This meant, in practice, muzzle brakes had to be certified by the BATF to prevent end-users from accidentally violating the law and installing a device that could later be found to be defined legally as being more of a flash suppressor than a muzzle brake, even if marketed and sold as a muzzle brake, if incidental flash suppression was deemed to be 'significant' by the BATF. The Federal laws governing this sunsetted in 2004, and are no longer of concern, except in those few jurisdictions in which specific state laws still retain certain provisions of the earlier and now defunct Federal law.

I highly doubt Utah would have any such law, but who knows what evil lurks. And I'd rather not break any laws while having my fun.

The .308 is superior to the 30-06 round in every capacity for accuracy at distance.

I've got a nice 30-06 bolt action though, it's the stripper clips that suck dude.

ps - I'm surprised your skinny little army ass can handle the recoil, be careful not to shatter anything nancy...

i always wondered why the nato 5.56x45 has less recoil than the russian one (5.45x39?). i didnt read up too much AND since i am german i have only occasional access to weapons and shooting them (akm/74 and g36), but i always wondered about that. is that some weapon mechanics?

otoh, both of these .223 variants seem to suck. do you have any experience with those new-fangled 6.8mm caliber weapons? i think barret made some rifles with it.

i am not interested in handguns, since i do not know a handgun that has effective targeted stopping power over 150m.

.50 bmg pistol. When you need to reach out and explode someone, but you just don't want to lug a big ass rifle around.

as for the 5.45 and the 5.56.

I'm just guessing, but I'd say it would be mechanical, but it could be different amounts of powder, or different bullet weights.
