The Guns and Ammo Thread

Look what my girlfriend found on her balcony. She lives in a flat that belonged to an old woman, so before her living there, there was no one in the house for ten years. Before that, the old hag lived there all her life. So no one cleaned the balcony for a long long time. That's why i don't believe the bullet it's just some novelty item with no powder. That and the fact that the bullet is not too nose heavy, there is something in the case. Also, the primer is not used. I find it pretty cool since owning this is illegal.

Do you know the markings on the back? The little circle with a triangle?

I think...bear with me here, but I think you found something of immense historical value.

Now, I'm not a humongous gun expert, but I've spent a lot of time reading about this subject and seeing pictures, pictures of bullets just like that one.

I think you found the bullet that Hitler shot himself with.

:D Very funny. I thought about posting it because guns are really illegal here. So finding something like this is pretty big. I mean, i've never even held a live round before. None of my friends have. I was planning on getting a gun license and going to the range, but that's in the near future.

I doubt that too, still i am very thrilled. I showed it to my grandpa and he told me lots of stories of americans bombing Bucharest and how he and other children looted downed american planes for aluminium and parachute cloth.

That looks to be a Sellier & Bellot, Prague 8 x 57 JS Soft point bullet. Judging by the headstamp.

Possibly a mauser round.

Post WW2 manufacture, if it was made during the war it would have had AK stamped on the head instead of SBP

Dude, quit chewing on those dirty nasty fingernails!

ps - Suaside, stfu loser. I like having different weapons with the same caliber you condescending prick.

pps - I was talking about guys like you with several gun shop owners at the gunshow in Jackson last week. We call you guys the 'rainmen' of the shows. Like Dustin Hoffman's character in the movie 'Rainman'. "Yeah, that's a 7.65, yeah definitely a 7.65, yeah... time for Wapner..."

I can't they drive me insane! That's why there's blood there.

Thank's, that's what i wanted to know, the country of origin. Now if i could just find a pipe :D

Please don't.

During an exercise I got bored and opened an exercise cartridge, and after having burned the gunpowder I thought; hmm, how about I use my Leatherman's screwdriver as a firing pin and then try to bang a rock on top of it to make the primer ignite?

That's right - just the primer.

The bang made my ears ring for hours and the little finger on the hand that was holding my Leatherman was numb the rest of the day.

You inserting an old but still live round into a pipe and doing the same? That could lead to serious injuries, man.

I am aware of that. But i'm thinking, if a nuclear war comes, i will emerge from the basement with a live cartridge! That's more firepower than 99% of the population will have! :D

When i was little kids used to play with carbide, something you mix with water and gives of acetylene gas. Kids took steel pipes, covered at one end, put carbide inside, water, a rock and then threw matches in. What resulted was a cannon that threw fist sized rocks 50 meters away.

Another thing we used to do was taking two large bolts and a nut, screw one bolt half way into the nut, then fill the inside with crushed matchheads and screw the other bolt into the other end of the nut, trapping the powder between the bolts. All you had to do was throw it away, the powder exploded throwing the bolts flying all over the place. We were really stupid for doing that, but somehow no one got hurt.

I am just surprised that this thing went unnoticed for like 30 years on some balcony, sitting in the sun, freezing in winter, and it didn't go off. Of course, i don't know what to expect from a bullet...

I got a;
benelli nova (long barrel)
.303 lee enfield
m4

Im in the market for a gi issue 1911 and a mossberg 500 or 590.

hate to break it to you, but if it has been sitting outside unprotected for years, there's a pretty good chance that it'll never fire. If any moisture got inside the casing, the powder was ruined.

Yeah, i like how it looks in one piece anyway, i put it on a shelf and that's where it's staying.

oooooooooh, i had a great day today.

or well, i had a rather shitty day today, but then i came home and my friend & mentor phoned me to tell me he found a Manurhin MR-73 for me.

damn, i'm so happy. been looking forward to owning one for years now. too bad i've got to wait for the paperwork to clear (1 month to 3 months, give or take).

A sport, police or match version?

That's a fairly expensive revolver. Or are you getting it used, only dropped once (when the frenchman carrying it surrendered)?

For that kind of money, I'd by a colt python in .357 and buy three or four other guns as well.

my choice, the gunshop (owned by a guy named Schütz, how fitting) has a 6" Sport, a 5.25" Sport and a 4" Gendarmerie (police). i'm certainly not going for the 6" since it's rather nose heavy and MR-73's are very accurate anyway, so you don't need the barrel length except for prolongued sightbase anyway. so it's either the 4" for practical uses or the 5.25" for accuracy.

i'm leaning towards taking the police version and shooting IPSC with it for sheer awesome.

at 1050 euros, brandnew? expensive for that class of weapons? not really... i need only buy one & keep it the rest of my life.

a tuned upper class S&W 686 costs like 1200 euros, easily. and doesn't even come close, except for looking shinier...

as for the Python... well, you'd need to find a second hand earlier production model (those were the best). they go about for 600-750 euros right about now. newer production goes for about 550-700 euros. apart from looks, the Python doesn't really come close to the MR-73 in my book.
