It means how much the bullet weighs - the projectile part of the round that leaves the barrel.

You should read up on how a gun functions and take a safety class. If you know of anybody who has access to a range, go with them and ask for some basic lessons about shooting.
 
I know how to shoot, just have never had experience in buying ammo. Its always been just issued stuff, so the only things I have really seen are 5.56 and 7.62 nato.
 
i never regarded the Mini 14 as being worth much. i mean, the really old ones have a good rep, but the more recent ones really aren't very accurate at all.

but i guess it's totally up to what you want to do with it. makes for a great plinker, i'm sure.
 
What rifle would you recommend that would be good for plinking but still deliver quality if you want more than that? I'm looking for something lightweight and of good quality, something that I will keep and use for years.
EDIT: Essentially I'm looking for an all purpose, no nonsense rifle. Been reading reviews and so far Tikka T3 looks quite good. Advice?

This is based on your personal experience with how many Mini-14's? I've owned 5 over the years and found them all to be completely reliable and very accurate.

Where do you get this shit from? Euro shooting magazines? Internet gun forums? :roll:

I'm betting you've never even shot a Mini-14 - yet you can wax poetic about it's failings as an accurate rifle all day.

The truth about Mini-14's is the are very accurate when fed the correct ammo for the rifling in the weapon. There are 3 rifling types in the Mini-14 history. The twist rate of the Mini-14 started out at 1-in-10" in 1975. It then changed to 1-in-7" in 1989 and then finally to the current 1-in-9" starting in mid-1994. If you're shooting Military Ball ammo of the 55gr fodder out of the 1-in-7" barrel, you're not likely to get good results even in a heavy barrel match grade AR.

no, i haven't shot a Mini-14. and i wouldn't trust myself to give an accurate depiction of a rifle's potential by shooting it myself anyway. it could be me fucking up, or it could be unsuited ammo or it could be the rifle that's just bad while other production might be good.

but to a certain extent, i do trust the more professional reviewers of certain magazines and their findings are pretty much confirmed by what i've read online.

do remember however that our standards to compare it to are the Sig 550/551 (most popular sporting rifle), FNC, MKE T43, Sabre Defense XR15 A3, Molot 1V Mini,...

now would you please stop mouthing off everytime someone voices a different opinion than your own, mr internet tough guy? if you have any evidence to prove the person wrong, fine, show it then. if not, leave your insults out of it.

all i have written, especially on the subject is clearly a personal opinion and not some expert opinion on the matter. hell, on rifles as a whole i'd never even claim "experienced user" status, let alone masquerading myself as an "expert".

sjeezes, this is a forum centered around a computer game and this a thread about weapons in general. one would likely assume that you'll find mostly personal opinions here.

that said, in the US they're dirt cheap.

It should be clear - but there was nothing in your post that served as a disclaimer to make it clear that you didn't have any first hand experience, while you wrote as if you were an expert on the subject. Please point out in that post where you made it clear you were just posting a baseless opinion.

You mentioned this was a Fallout fansite. How much merit would you give to any person who expressed their opinion of the game Fallout - who had never played the game?

A person who based their rather definite and negative opinion of the game Fallout, based soley on what they read in magazines and online chatrooms. What would you think of their viewpoint?

Cry me a river ya big baby. If you are going to post an opinion, especially on a topic where you have zero firsthand experience - expect to be called to task for it.

I don't play fallout. I have zero firsthand experience with the game. Therefore I don't post an opinion on how good or bad the game plays.

If I had read a bunch of articles about the game and read a lot of online chat about the game - I still would not venture forth with an opinion - because I have no personal experience to base that opinion on.
