Damn fine piece of machinery you've got there.

Thanks. I'm kind of partial to it.

(would personally have picked a longer barrel and a scope, though)

Got a bunch of those already.

I absolutely love them. I plan on putting them on most of my ARs going forward. They are pretty decently made and spring loaded. There are a few legitimate cons in my opinion:
1. They are plastic. Tough plastic, but plastic nonetheless. Get them hot enough or wack them hard enough, and they will break. If I were the kind of guy who's life depended on backup sights capable of clubbing polar bears to death, I would probably stick with Troy or PRI or some other all-metal sight.

2. They are somewhat bulky. The rear sight in particular is a little taller and considerably longer then any of the other folding BUIS(s) that I have. When I switched out the Troys on my mostly Magpul gun, I had to relocate the EOTech farther forward to clear the magnifier.

That said, they can't be beat for the money. I have the supreme luxury of choosing what I want instead of it being issued to me. Consequently, I have no worries that I will not be able to depend on the Magpuls should my primary optic go down and those steel plates and bowling pins launch an offensive.

For your benefit, the Magpul sites in God's own chosen color, OD Green:

These didn't come out as well as I'd have liked, but the light here in my office kind of sucks this evening. Sorry about the graininess.

Also, I have plenty of other rifles, including an AK somewhere in the back of the safe, collecting dust. ARs are just my favorite. Perhaps it is time to break out some of the shotguns.

alright, i'll have him bring back some MBUS for me. they're meant as backup stuff & fun sights, not my life depending on them or anything. still haven't figured out my primary sight though... either one of the EOTechs (557.AR223 or 512.A65?) or Aimpoint Comp M4S (has to be an S since i shoot rifles left handed, so i suspect an M4 vanilla would block some of my LoS).

do you know any good stores in the LA region btw, Johnny? i know it's not your neck of the woods at all, but i figure it doesn't hurt to ask. :)

Unfortunately, LA is about 3000 miles away physically and at the other end of my universe philosophically. California is beautiful country, and I went to my honeymoon in Yosemite National Park, which is just about as beautiful a place as can exist. However, the state is exceptionally unfriendly to my particular interests. I have, however, ordered from LA Police Supply on-line a number of times. I'm not certain if they have a retail location, but they have a pretty decent selection on-line.

I want to really like the Comp M4 a lot more then I do. It's definitely far tougher then an EOTech, and has a battery life (and I am not making this up) of 80,000 hours vs. 1100 hours to the EOTech 512/552. The only real downside is price, at approximately $700 USD with mount vs. $450 for the EOTech 512. Unfortunately, as my astigmatism has gotten worse (if my glasses were any thicker, I could see into the past), the center dot of the Aimpoint appears to rotate around an axis to me. With the EOTech, the larger circle keeps my eye focused, causing less apparent movement for the center dot.

One of my best friends is a very hard-core competitor and training junkie, and swears that the Aimpoint Micro is the best of all worlds. All the functionality of the full size Aimpoint at half the size. I've also had it pointed out to me any number of times that I would be even faster if I switched back to Aimpoint. However, I firmly believe that any gain in target acquisition speed would be offset by my eyes trying to make the dot sit still. On the move or at close distances, it wouldn't be so bad, but precision at a distance would drive me crazy.

Since this is a picture thread, here is one of my older ARs from when my eyesight was better, my belly was flatter, and I could run five miles without having to stop for a donut and a cigarette:

Check out that totally awesome wallpaper!

Well, it's been a few months since this thread has seen some life, mostly because of confusion over the purpose of the 'Guns, Guns, Guns...' thread. I like this thread much better, since I'd rather share my love of guns then argue over them.

Anyways: New toy.
This is a Noveske rifle. It is special for two reasons: it has an SPR contour on a 16" barrel instead of the usual 18" barrel. Also, Noveske is not contouring barrels any more. Pays to be nice to his office manager, I suppose.

This Noveske has the 3-position switch block, allowing me to completely turn off the gas for single shots. This gives me a very expensive bolt action rifle, but boy is it ever quiet. Flip the switch again, and I am back at semi auto for suppressed or unsuppressed shooting.

I no longer have the Finnish M/27, and I'm expecting a Sig 551 SB soon. Delivery has already been pushed back a few months, final delivery should be in a few weeks.

Anyone see the new Kel-Tech .22 magnum 30 shot pistol?
It looks to be similar to the hard to find/expensive out of production Grendle P30.
(I read somewhere that they were designed by the same guy 20 years apart)

Retail on the new keltech is $299 range!
The energy delivered by the .22 magnum is close to the 5.7x28 FN Five-Seven.
(though there are serious arguments about powder, barrel length etc. in the tests as well as claims that FN is lying about 5.7 performance out of a pistol length barrel),
but the Keltech costs way less than 1/2 the price and the ammo is way cheaper as well.

Ugh...

Buy the Kel-Tec if you want a fun cheap high-cap plinker.

Do not buy it because you think it comes anywhere close to the FN FiveseveN. It does not. That said, civilian ammo for the FiveseveN sucks.

Neither should be used in self-defense by a civilian, unless you have no other choice.

This thread needs tiny silencers!

For when I have to shoot at tiny things, quietly.

You've built up a nice little collection over the last few years, SuA.

That's not a tiny suppressor! It's just hidden underneath the handguards, you cheater!

Suppressors are illegal here sadly. I'd buy one for most my guns if I could. Easier on the ears when shooting indoors. Now I wear earplugs and earmuffs over them.

Quite annoying.

They're banning open-air shooting left and right here in the country (especially trap & skeet shooting ranges are disappearing fast), but suppressors are illegal. Go figure.

Actually, a good part were acquired in the past 6 months.

Can't wait for the Sig 551 SB though. God, I'm going to love it. Still torn about what optics to use though. A 1/3rd cowitnessing Aimpoint M4S, perhaps? Could probably get an M3 a lot cheaper though... Eotechs won't cowitness, would block the drum. ACOGs, I've got no use for, don't plan to shoot far often.
Something like a Millet DMS or a Burris XTR might be fun to play around with once in a while though.
