We have nothing in place that deters anyone from commiting rape except the people who wouldn't anyway, we have no punishment or rehabilitation system in place that in any way prevents repeat offenders, and preventative measures for this sort of thing are absurd to any woman who has never been assaulted, unless they are paranoiacs. The problem isn't awareness, the problem is that we live in a civilization that would rather have 10 women be raped than have a violent criminal be appropriately punished, and guess in who is encouraged by that climate? Hint: It isn't the women.

:notworthy: yes, indeed all the child molesters that have been on the news lately are repeat criminals or have simular charges in their pasts. and many rapists in prison have been out and then put back in for the very thing they are imprisioned for.

Ooops, sorry then, I tend to get carried away. I'll take the "awareness isn't the problem" thing one step further then: We know what needs to be done, whether people admit it to themselves or not. It's as plain as the nose on your face. Our society, or more to the point the leaders of our society, are unwilling or unable to do what needs to be done. And while they're all having a good time indulging in the luxury of debating the pros and cons of any action, and funding studies, and convincing themselves that they really do sympathize, but they just can't go against their conscience, people continue to be molested, raped and murdered, and more often than not by people who have done it and been caught before. I envy them, it must be nice to be so abstracted from reality that one can simultaneously condone the use of lethal force on the citizens of other countries on one hand and condemn capital punishment for murderers and rapists as barbaric on the other.
 
And on that note. Everybody needs to watch A Clockwork Orange.

That is how you get people thinking about capital punishment.

Are you saying that Brady's comments show that he doesn't "get" A Clockwork Orange, which also implies that you think A Clockwork Orange wasn't about the complete failure of prison or other, alternative, methods to "rehabilitate" criminals? Or are you just saying that it's useless to suggest it as the majority of the masses will most likely misinterpret it?

Not only that, but the group of people which the work was supposed to criticize, often end up as fans to a book they can't understand, but is intellectually cool.

Ok, sorry about that Wooz. I know that when you want to insult someone you just do it straight out, but the way you worded it confused me a bit. Hooray for the mind-numbing effects of work!

And I completely agree with the second part. It doesn't help matters any that McDowell is so charismatic that even some adults end up empathizing/sympathizing with him, though it does add another layer of depth to the film.

Romanian police searching a woman suspected of theft found her hiding a mobile phone in her vagina.

They made the astonishing discovery after dialling the number and hearing a muffled ringing coming from somewhere under the woman's skirt.

A witness said he had alerted police when he saw Ruxandra Gardian steal the phone from a customer in a restaurant.

Police questioned the 34-year-old and were about to let her go when the witness suggested they ring the phone to determine whether she was hiding it.

On dialling the number they heard a sound coming from under Gardian's clothes and took her to police headquarters to be strip-searched.

Police officers conducting the search were shocked to find the phone stashed in the woman's vagina.

However, the owner of the phone has since refused to have it returned to him saying it was damaged beyond repair and he would be filing an insurance claim.

Officer Aurel Popescu commented: "I've seen a lot in my time as a policeman but never anything like this."

Uh... yes? Of course, cutting off his 'equipment' and then make him live like that would be more suiting, but if that's not possible - yeah, make him bleed to death. And preferrably piss on him while he's still alive.
