Am I cool now?

Is it updated? It's still full of crappy B-movies that could easily be replaced with much better ones. In terms of modern art, ever watched The Departed? The Reader? To fit your taste, any of the Bourne movies? A movie to replace Full Metal Jacket (or supplement it) is Apocalypse Now. Three Kings if you like war movies...

Bla bla, I could go on forever - you have so much to watch. Go and watch!! And remove Lord of the Rings :)

I couldn't get into the Departed. It's about only cynical assholes doing nothing I should care about.

I did very much like three kings!

I've seen the Bourne flicks, nothing special. And I can't remember enough about them to find out where they belong on the list.

I've seen the the making of the lord of the rings quite a few times, based on it's costumes, props and other art alone it deserves to be on my list.

I'm betting there's quite a few on my list you haven't seen.

You're entitled to your opinion, but why do you dislike my list so? Aren't these good movies?:

The Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Watchmen

Akratus, you got plenty of good movies in your list. You got plenty of movies I find silly also, but why should you give a shit? :D It's your list, and taste is subjective :D

It's kind of weird. The movies I find best are the ones with the best and most inventive story. But I have like this secondary sense for aesthethics and ideas that sometimes overrides that. It's why I love the Dark Crystal so much, and why I like superhero movies. It doesn't make sense to some, but I think I just get to enjoy that much more.

Anyone else have any lists? I would like to see some.

You have some great titles on there, buddy. All I'm saying is that it's funny seeing 'Fight Club' stand there along with 'Crank'. And when you say you appreciate good stories, you miss out on thrillers like LA Confidential, Burn After Reading, Michael Clayton, aforementioned Departed?

I really like human interaction and feelings in my movies, so obviously the LoTR trilogy does not make it to the list. Instead, I opt out for something like 25th Hour.

Crime movies should be about unsympathetic assholes. Its like the Way of The Gun:
"I didnt sympathize with anybody!"
"Well you shouldnt. These are horrible people." (from the commentaries).

God i love that movie (and the dorector/writer and the commen
taries)

I can't exactly see things from your perspective. . .

Except, 25 hours sounds really good. And I do like Edward Norton. . .

Not a "definite list", but these are the movies I have procured so far:

Blood diamond (I consider it an okay movie. Dicaprio does a good accent!)
Cidade dos homens/City of Men (Excellent stuff, both the movie and the series)
Disney's Dinosaur (Come on, I'm a dino-geek! It's a must!)
El labirinto del fauno
Eternal enemies: Lions and hyenas (Documentary, but excellent)
Hero
Hotel Rwanda (Not super-amazing in any way, but I have a penchant for movies concerning African conflicts)
Jalla Jalla
Jason bourne 1 and 2 (Decent action)
Jurassic Park (The 1st is a gem, the rest, meh)
La vita e bella
Mad Max 2
Mary and Max
Men who stare at goats
Mononoke Hime
Moonwalker (Apart from starring MJ, this is a bizarre-as-hell movie)
Mulholland Drive
Nausicäa
No country for old men
Nokas (Well done and relistic rendition of a dramatic, heavily armed bank robbery in Stavanger, Norway, some years ago)
One flew over the cuckoos nest
Polytechnique (Gruesome but excellent)
Pulp fiction
Road to perdition (I like the pace of it)
Saving private Ryan (A definite must)
Schindlers list
Se7en
Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (Cute)
Free Jimmy (By Norwegians for Norwegians, too much "insider humor" for non-Norwegians. Trying to distribute it abroad was a huge mistake)
Snatch
Svidd neger (One of my favorites. Very bizarre Norwegian dark comedy)
Team America
The full monty (Very charming)
The godfather (Another must. Never bothered much with the sequels)
The good, the bad, and the ugly (Classic)
The Incredibles
The lord of the rings (Never a huge fan, but sometimes I enjoy the whole.. "magic" of it)
Titanic (Lol. Sue me)
TMNT (Not a big fan, but fun nostalgia)
Torrente 3 (Spanish humor, quite funny!)
Traffic
Training day
Trainspotting (A favorite)
Trolljegeren
Waltz with Bashir (Another favorite)

Movies I have yet to get, but want to get, are Memento, Fight Club and Ravenous, amonst many others I'm not remembering right now.

An excellent movie, yes. Villeneuve took a tragedy and tackled the subject with sobriety without white-washing the whole thing.

It is one of few violent movies where I actually dread the violence that is to come, and really hope for the characters involved. Precisely because you know it follows real events, and therefore won't necesarily end well for everyone.

Cidade dos homens/City of Men (Excellent stuff, both the movie and the series)

In case you didn't know, the creators of the series also directed the film City of God (much more recognised internationally).

I was well aware :]
I really enjoy City of God too, but it's one of these movies that are SO obviously good - that I simply keep forgetting it :D

Ye, it's one of those dramatic movies. The ending alone is a masterpiece that deserves an Oscar.

It also has Philip Hoffman (his acting was top-notch). 'Before The Devil Knows You're Dead' and 'Capote' are very entertaining, I'd certainly recommend that you watch them if you haven't already and they might find a spot on that list of yours.

Just finished watching Flukt (Escape)

Set in the immediate aftermath of the bubonic plague (which devastated Norway, virtually transforming it into a lawless wasteland).
It has an odd pace, and leaves a couple of twists and turns to be fixed, remedied, or maybe replaced altogether - but! It is about goddamn time we try our hands on some "medieval dramas", but I am still waiting for a proper "viking movie".

The same director also made the "Cold Prey" series, which I have not seen yet, because I'm not a fan of slashers (They tend to be repetitive...), but due to their good reviews, I am growing curious.

It's amazing how far visual effects technology has gotten. I had no idea that the New York City featured in The Avengers was COMPLETELY CGI! Wow. Honestly, this is how CGI and visual effects in general should be...
