Things we learned from Fallout 3

Even in Fallout 2 there is said that ghouls from Necropolis are "first and last" generation.
Wait, what? If that's true, how does Gecko exist?

@naossano Maybe the FEV they fell into is different than the FEV used in Super Mutant production later on? Different concentration, different inactive compounds alongside it, etc. etc. I mean it can't be that 100% of the liquid in the Vats was FEV, that's preposterous. We are clearly over-thinking all of this beyond what the developers did, but, I think this is a rational and not unreasonable explanation.

727. Weapons can always be repaired using spare parts from similar weapons, no matter how bad the damage or the type of damage, or the type of weapon.

728. This can always be done instantly and even in the middle of combat. (Melting down lead pipes and steel knives during combat to forge repaired ones; woohoo!)

729. Duct tape fixes all weapon degradation issues. (You will notice a tape sound in the Repair Item sound effect)

730. The player always has duct tape with them, which never depletes. (See 729)

If my memory is right, people of Gecko are came from Necropolise.
same for Brokenhills.
so there aren't no ghouls who are not came from Necropolise at Fo1,2.

The only thing the developpers confirmed are :
- Radiation only : ghouls
- Radiation + FEV : Dumb super-mutants
- FEV only : Smart super-mutant
- Harold/The Master : Specials

In the Harold (and Talius) case, some devellopper though at the time that FEV could be used or be needed to become ghouls. They weren't totally wrong, since it wasn't decided at the time. Then, they settled the issue with Ghoul = Radiation only, so Harold had to become "special" in dev own terms. They didn't said what Harold is. They only said specials. It's up to us to guess what he is (or they are since there is a Bob involved). But he is confirmed not being a ghoul.

I don't know if it is about the recipe of the FEV, the time of exposure, the way the subject is exposed, the genetical disposition of the subject, the involvement of Richard or Lou, or the fact that multiple beings were dipped together but we know that they are subjects that were exposed or been implied to be exposed to FEV and didn't turned super-mutants :
- The unknown mutants that attacked (human) Harold's caravans.
- Harold & Bob.
- Talius
- The Masters and the people, animals & computers he assimilated.
- The abominations in Vault 87.
- The Fo1-Fo2 centaurs (that looks like dogs+men+spiders)
- The Fo3-FoNV centaurs
- The Floaters
- The high death rate aknowledged by many characters of the franchise. These people don't become living super-mutants.

Typhon from Broken Hills: "There ain't any ghouls but old ghouls. We're all sterile, see, but we're incredibly long-lived. We're the first and last generation of ghouls". I guess Typhon maybe was assuming that anything like Vault 12 will happen again. Then Bethesda of course happened. Gecko was established by ghouls who had fled from Necropolis.

731. Uneducated Talon Company mercs know what silver is.
732. Said mercs know that there was an old phrase that involved something to do with plates, silver and heads.
733. Going to space and showing off your new arsenal will not get you any respect.
734. If you are wearing power armor, you will die faster than some dickbag in a vault suit that flooded the room with radiation.
735. Enclave has robots but they insist on sending real people in to activate PP (I guess they don't have Broken Steel installed)
736. Enclave will not give magical Rad-X to operatives who go into PP.
737. One idiot from a vault is capable of taking on a whole enclave base.
738. Liberty Prime knew that there were missiles incoming but chose to tell everyone to get back even though the missiles have a 50m blast zone and he could've easily carried everyone on his feet.
739. The US government think that a giant robot screaming obscenities at the enemy is enough to win a war.
740. A fragmentation grenade has a blast radius of five meters.
741. The aliens pose a huge threat to the wasteland, yet they can be beaten to death with your bare fists.
742. The aliens like to pit raiders against deathclaws.
743. Summoning enough deathclaws with the teleport button will make you better at using alien weapons.
744. All it takes to open a highly secure storage room is to complete a training simulation.
745. After you open the highly secure storage room and the Outcasts declare war on you, Outcast patrols will not give a shit.
746. The Outcasts will always try to kill you after you've had enough time to fully regain your composure.
747. The security system can distinguish between people who completed the training simulation and people who didn't.

Lol, good list.

What is the actual effective blast radius of a modern frag grenade?

Radius of an F1 grenade, which seems to be the closest representation of the F3 grenade is a maximum of 200 meters and the effective radius of 30 meters. The current grenade used by the US has a kill radius of 10 to 15 meters. So, the average kill radius on a grenade can range between 10 to 30 meters.

748. Lone sniper that utilizes mines to kill people decides to spruce things up and shoot explosive cars instead of people.
749. The Lone Wanderer possesses a unique ability of jumping. Not that it's extremely useful.
750. Even after completing a quest about making technology work for you, technology doesn't do that unless you pay your 10$.
751. Toilets are only good for drinking out of.
752. People can shrug off the fact that they had been covered in burning napalm and will still run at you with a knife.
753. The Pyromaniac perk does not give you sudden urges to set things on fire.
754. Things don't burn.
755. Killing the members of a crazy cult that poisons a peaceful town with irradiated water makes you a bad person.
756. The heroic B.o.S will not kill or deal with a crazy cult that irradiates a towns local supply.

5. Super Mutants apparently have selective endurance since Fawkes really didn't give a **** about his FEV dunk, yet the others lost their minds over it

4. You can't kill children (looking at you Little Lamplight)

3. Drinking from toilets is healthy, and TOTALLY not weird

2. Out of a choice of siding with bigoted upper class twits and ghoulish underdogs that just want to be equal, I'd pick the upper class twits

1. THE ALMODOVARS (specifically Amata) SHOULDN'T EXIST.

1.Food is eadible 200 years after the expiring date.

2.Guns break after 10 shots.

3.Drink from toilets.

From what I learned from the lore videos by ShoddyCast, and from reading, almost all of the Pre-War foods were pumped full of preservatives.

What I tought was weird though in the quest where you lead the feral ghouls to kill everyone in Tenpenny Tower, all you have to do is throw on a ghoul mask and they ignore you.

I think this threat ought to be deserted, really, just as it stopped seeing much of any activity until some new faces showed up. The clearly-set formatting guideline of "the next rule is ( last rule number + 1 )" gets ignored too often, people often don't even USE the formatting let alone list their rules with the wrong number, and it's gone on so long that MUCH of what's posted now is just a repeat of what's been posted already. Not once or twice, but MANY times. This thread should really exist just to give people a chuckle through READING it, not just ignoring the first 38 pages and re-pasting what someone else already said somewhere on page 4 again, cause you didn't bother to read it. =/

@Korin Thoughts?

---

My opinion personally, it might be useful to copy all the numbered stuff to post #1 (the OP) and then lock the thread, then put 1 post at the end linking to the OP. That way you can read through the whole list quickly no matter how you arrived at the thread  I can do this if you're cool with it.

^ This formatting is similar to how x'il did in the New Animations 2 thread.

Why would you want to lock this thread ?

Anyway, those who don't bother to read the previous post mostly hurt themselves, by missing many good points.

I'm not saying this thread needs to be locked. I'm just irritated that "certain" users drop by and they basically insert a mini-rage post without adhering to any of the established formatting, it never comes off as particularly humorous in nature, and most of the time they always just repeat something that's been typed many times already. I can remember several times where one guy posted the wrong number, then the next guy followed that by posting the continuation of the first guy's wrong numbers, then myself or others made a post (ALWAYS with our own "things we learned" tacked on) correcting the numbering discrepancy, and it resumed properly. Well things like that I'm totally okay with; those were just mistakes. But unlike accidentally misreading "587" as "507", simply disregarding "756" and making yours begin with "5" is just blatantly ignoring the purpose of the thread. It's not my thread, so I don't intend to claim either ownership over it or any form of governance on "how it's meant to be done", just that it HAS proceeded under particular guidelines, and it really irritates me to see those completely disregarded. It's more of a complaint about newer users not bothering than it is a criticism that the thread itself should be killed- I don't think that it should, but that's just me.

I thought the purpose was to be fun to read. When you read as a whole and you find 5 or 10 times the same bullet-point, it clearly cease to be funny.
But the numbers ? Some could care about them, but i am not sure most of readers care about these.

761. Mediocre games that caters towards the masses tend to sell more than a game with a decent plot, characters, and gameplay.
