What dying out? This is BS. In my eyes, the Fallout community (the community from the old Fallout) is active than never before.
I know what I am talking about. Our fan site has about 1700-2000 unique IP addresses hits per day. It is about more than 1000 visitors per day against the same month in 2008. But this numbers say only one thing. There is a lot of new players but a minimum of them is interested in old good Fallouts, most of them are Fallout3 a and Oblivion fans although we are focused more to old games than Fo3. I will make a survey today but I am certain that players are coming to see Fo3 news rather then anything else.

Let see people's reactions to new Last Hope mod. I am wondering how many people will play it.
The so called Fallout tourist. How many Dagerfall fans are still around? Its obvious that there are more people which apreciate Fallout 3 for its setting but do not care about its mechanics or what really are the roots from it. It sounds rude now eventualy, but from a not comercial view point, one could not care less about the tourists. I might not know much. But I have to say the "there are more Fallout3/Oblivion" fans around leaves me rather cold. Doesnt say much.

Numbers from a localized site will never show the full picture. NMA's the biggest and I wouldn't even pretend we're representative of the Fallout community as a whole.

That said, it's odd for you to say "I know what I'm talking about" only to then disprove your own claim :P

Heh. Like I said, the Fallout community has seen better days, but considering its age it is doing fine.

You don't need to ask each person from whole community to know the exact results. They call it statistical estimation. I've made pool on our site and in one week I will know more. I'll guarantee you if you do the same on NMA, the results won't be much different. In this moment it looks much better for Fallout 1&2 so maybe I was too pessimistic

Statistical analysis is a high-level science that I would never dare apply without a team of statisticians behind me.

Also, who's to say if the Czech fanbase is representative of the worldwide fanbase? I seriously doubt it, all of eastern Europe has always had a different attitude towards Fallout 1/2 and a different, larger fanbase because of it.

You doubt it but you don't try to make it clear. Just make a voting pool on front page and ask "Why do you visit this site?"
1. To see Fallout 3 info
2. To see Fallout 1&2 info
3. other reason (not because of Fo1,2,3)

You don't really need team of statisticians behind you to find out how many people is still interested in old Fallouts.

We don't have a frontpage poll.

Yes you do. Polls, especially polls people elect to join into, are never accurate.

So just sayin', don't draw any wide-ranging conclusions from 'em

How come actually that there are more fans there?

It is what it is. I dunno. The deeper you go into Europe the more you find people who enjoy smart and difficult gaming and who never really dug the American mainstream direction. Fallout has a special status in many of those countries, tho' I think their media still embraced Fallout 3 readily.

Jeeze, seems like everyones fighting over my post. All I was doing was trying to be helpful. I wasn't trying to be rude, snide, or insulting. I was merely trying to give some quick pointers on grammar and spelling that needed to be changed.

And besides, I'm apparently the proof reader now, so all this fighting is pointless.

Maybe it's just my personality, but I find these three pages of post quite funny. The Fallout community has been through A LOT, and it's definitely showing.

I personally played Fallout 3. And I liked it. It was a good game. Didn't quite satisfy my RPG cravings, but I felt like I'm in the world where Mad Max lives (lots of fast weird-looking cars would help). But it's a different category than Fallout. Sure, I enjoyed Oblivion too, but I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm a "big fan" of either.

While Fallout is different. I grew up on it. I feel a strong connection with not only the games, but also the community. No matter whether the NMA or Czech or even the Russian one (since I enjoy the benefits of understanding those languages). They are all very different, yet they have the one main thing in common - we all enjoy our good old Fallout! You don't see many Russians around, but from all the projects it's clear that the Russian Fallout community is very much alive. Fallout has always been big in Eastern Europe. I connect it with the mentality and low average hardware specs :P

Obviously no community is free of conflicts, flame-baits and spammers, and part of me is actually surprised that it all held apart for as long as it did... and that it continues holding! Sure, the days of VB were the days of the enthusiasm. That was the time when we were proud for who we are (and hence MANY mods started), rather than being targeted in most of the mainstream media as the "impossible to satisfy" and "aggressive opposition to innovation" hating something that everyone else seems to love. They don't know what's it like to wait 6 years only for your main hope to be canceled and your beloved franchise being assimilated into Oblivion-style gameplay... But the Fallout community is strong. The wasteland made us strong. Which is why I believe that no matter how much pointless arguments over pointless details there are gonna be, we will still stick together as the people who love Fallout.

And isn't that the reason why all the mods are still made? A LOT of free time suddenly gone, just to bring something great to the whole community?

...

So keep that in mind whenever you comment, criticize or just troll around...

I can't be sure which, but a while ago I did offer to proof-read a Fallout mod/remake/whatever and never got any reply. Can't accuse guys at Fallout 1.5 because I'm really not sure if it was them or some other project.

I'm not aware of any such applications. Maybe it wasn't Resurrection or it slipped through the mailboxes (in which case I apologize). Can you PM me your email? I'll make sure that you're offered part in the whole process...

Generally the main problem with translating the Czech mods is that someone has to do that first step - the actual translation from Czech to English. Finding people that know English well enough to proof-read and edit that result into a good translation won't be as hard as finding enough people who know both Czech and a sufficient amount of English... But that's just another obstacle that developers will need to overcome. Can't say it's the first one...
