Tyranny Discussion Thread

So i've been fucking trilemma between choosing either this, civilization vi and shadow warrior 2. those three comes from the developer and company that i respect (the last one basically follow CDPR footstep). I know out of three, civilization vi is the most replayable and easily modded. But the shadow warrior 2 is basically nuDoom in steroid and stress relieving. I do like Story and usual narrative trope subversion from Tyranny. So yeah, the last quarter of 2016 seems to be great so far.

Edit: Also Divinity Original sin 2. Damn..bless me and my wallet

Let me help you. One of those games has Legion rip offs.
Need I say more?

I, for one, am excited to just finally have a game that's all about being evil. So few games have many evil options, especially in the last couple of years. Fallout 4 had basically 0 evil options throughout the entire game for example, despite being touted as "the biggest RPG of 2015".

Pillars of Eternity, which I'm currently replaying as an evil character, does at least have some decent evil options for a lot of the quests, although a lot of them simply border on a grey line rather than being evil (such as demanding money from a pregnant woman after getting her the potion she needs to save her baby).

I think one issue with Pillars of Eternity is that there really aren't any evil companions. I mean, there's the Devil of Caroc, but you need DLC to even get her, so she doesn't count. Granted you can just make your own party (which is a blessing) but really none of the companions stand out as purely evil considering some of the awful things you can do in this game (such as absorbing the souls of hundreds just to give yourself some stat boosts) or breaking all the bones in a little boy's body because he won't tell you a secret he knows. This is sort of a running theme with Obsidian considering New Vegas didn't have any evil companions either. (Ulysses was going to be one but the team ran out of time and had to simply regulate him to being a badass bossfight/person you can talk to)

Thankfully it looks like Tyranny is rectifying this by finally having companions of all types. Sure there will be those loyal to Kyros and who will want you to obey the Overlord, but there will also be companions from the opposing factions, such as Eb, a water mage whose home base is one of the last bastions not under Kyros's control. There's also Kills-In-Shadow, a beastwoman whose entire tribe was killed by Kyros's men, so she'll obviously like when you disobey Kyros's orders. Thus it seems like thankfully Obsidian has learned from making the companions all one-sided when it comes to morality, of which I'm thankful.

Oh god, I'm so excited. I'm not sure if anyone realizes that the Voices of Nerat is the perfect Vulpes, with the legion at his beck and call, while Graven Ashe is like Lanius, leading an army of Legion praetorians.

One of the things I hope for in the game is for our takeovers to actually have impact. It's been shown that we will be taking over opposing outposts and the like. New Vegas had a couple of quests like this, like where you can help the Legion take over Camp Forlorn Hope, but afterwards the camp is just kinda abandoned. (unless you get a cut content mod that restores Legion walking around Forlorn after the mission)

Like in one of the demo pieces from a while ago, it showed where you could work with the Scarlet Chorus or Graven Ashe's men to take over a rebel outpost, or you can work with the rebels. Depending on who you side with and win the fort with, I'd like to see their troops take over the entire keep, and every time you go back there you can see them milling around, to remind you of who owns it. Little things like that really help with immersion for me.

I don't that would be a problem, considering how much emphasis they're putting on choice and consequences.

Well I certainly hope so. Just by having companions in Tyranny that aren't wholly one-sided (like how more than half of the companions in New Vegas are Pro-NCR but we have 0 Pro-Legion companions besides maybe Raul, and how in Pillars none of your companions like it if you join House Doemenel as your main DB choice) makes me have hope that they're learning from their mistakes.

so yeah, i do prefer 20 hour of playthough with multi choice (maybe 4 "taste") than 50 hour with basically just only 2 good and evil, either being a Goody lawful or being a stupid chaotic evil.

Also kyros is a female ruler..with male title. I mean there should be story behind those overlord title. i'll be sad if obsidian left this opportunity

Wait what? Kyros is a chick? Where was this mentioned? I don't recall seeing anything about this on the official dev blog stuff. Same for that bit you mentioned to me about the "good guys" being like the Followers of the Apocalypse.

hmm...watch this

note that one of dev refer kyros as "she" in 0:47. As for Eb; well dunno but i have feeling that she might be top Choice that most 'good' playthrough will choose.

So.. the evil overlord is a woman? That's certainly the last thing I expected. Definitely different. I guess we'll see how they role with it.
